Locks

When I purchased by My2000 3.2 it came with 2 different keys, as the drivers door lock had been replaced previously , so it used a different key to the ignition & Armrest.

Porsche wanted £340 for a new door lock cut the same as the ignition, But i've managed to pick up a full brand new  lock set with 3 keys for less than half that.

On the ignition anyone know where the transponder in the key transmits to, The lock barrel has an electrical connector on it.

Anyone know if I fit the lock barrel and then put the new key blade in the old remote key, would it work ?

According to Bentley manual :-

There is an induction coil which is part of the ignition housing, this receives the signal from the key chip and communicates that signal to a module.

Remove the ignition switch (lock and housing complete)

The lock part of the switch can be removed by loosening two small screws (these will likely be sealed in place with paint dabs at the end of the housing, replace with new barrel and re-secure screws.

Replace housing/switch and re-connect electrical connectors.

Use the old key head and new blade and Bob's your fathers brother.
