Stereo Display Intermittent Fault

Recommended Posts

I've tried searching, but haven't found any similar posts, my 2005 987.1  has developed a fault on the stereo where when I start the car the stereo display is not visible, yet the audio through it is functioning perfectly well. Then as the journey progresses bit by bit the display returns to normality, and is then fine for the rest of the day. Has any one else suffered this problem and if so is it an indication of a bigger problem elsewhere or is it just time for an upgrade?

Yes my stereo has a mind of its own very often wont work after start up but springs into life 10 mins into the journey. It seems to have some interference at times too. I have learned to live with it now the music from the stainless exhaust is much preferred 🤣

I'm assuming you mean the original CDR-24 ? Sounds like just the display itself is on the way out , which is not unheard of.

There's a world of options available to sort it and it depends how much you want to spend and how original you want to keep things.

For example to fix the original some on here have used this site https://www.pcmrepairs.co.uk

If going aftermarket then be aware if you have BOSE that can complicate things (MOST retention interface required if keeping BOSE Amp).

If no BOSE then that's more straight forward, just a head unit swap.

The Pioneer DA230DAB has been seen as a good 3rd-party replacement by some.

Can't argue with that, I spent a good while last night reading the threads on here about mods to the exhaust.

Thanks for the links, I'll have a look at them, Its got the PCM 2.1 installed, I'll check to see whether it has the BOSE or not.

You're welcome and the same applies for PCM. The door speakers will have Bose written on them if you have it.

No affiliation other than a mate and I have used them , these guys know their stuff https://incartec.co.uk

I removed a kenwood unit from mine and refitted the original, the kenwood sound quality was very poor compared to the original if im honest. Maybe this was something to do with the original running through an amplifier and changer ? Maybe something to double check before replacing 🤔
