OPC v Indy Servicing

I know this has been done to death before but just wanted to share this with you. My car until today has always been looked after within the OPC Network but today I visited Lee and the crew at CPS Cotswold Porsche Specialist for my 8yr major on my 2.7 Boxster 981. Also as a precaution I had the battery changed as it was the original in the car so eight yrs old. As always great service and whilst carrying out the service this is what was noted:-

1.External pollen filter not fitted well. Indeed the mechanic commented it must have been fitted by an ape.

2. Front pollen box clip broken from previous figment.

so my only conclusion is both the above must have been done by OPC technicians!!

And then to cost  I had the major service and replacement battery for £50 less than what my local OPC quoted for the service only and that was after a revised quote which was £150 cheaper than the first quote.

So there you go. I know I’m glad I decided to take her away from the OPC network..

All about the hands on the tools rather than the name on the door.

if you find a good pair of hands who do what you want at price you are prepared to pay and you build a trust with them then all good.

my contention is  that “indy” doesn’t always mean “good” or “value” and “cheap” doesn’t mean “best” but there are a few (Lee being one of them) who seem to be able to do good, trust and value so happy days of you have one in range.

Agreed.

I travel 100 miles each way to make use of Lee's services.

I've always gone with the local OPC in the past as the car was under warranty.  Great service and ALWAYS negotiable down to an acceptable fee.

And because I no longer trust any of the local tyre chimps with a decent set of wheels, I'd even source tyres myself and get them to fit them. Work from the lounge, haev 12 coffees, 4 chocolate bars and pretend to be able to afford any one of the 911s in showroom. :)

The added bonus (unless has changed), is that if you book in advance or are flexible on date, you can bag a decent loaner for the day.  Having a 911 C4S Cab was worth the extra couple of quid!

Yeah I've done this as well in the past when appropriate and well priced (tyres for one thing- which I sourced myself).

I'd have done the tyre thing again with the OPC but I wanted PS4S and they would not fit them as not N rated 🤔
