Ninesomething
Booked in for a damper test at Center Gravity on the trail of my knocking noise. While browsing shocks l found these which look OK except that one of them has a big hole in the lower section which you can see in one of the pics. Looks a bit odd... I don't mind trying used shocks because I have a mate who builds shocks and he has a shock dyno. If I buy some used ones that don't test to a reasonable spec they'll just go back. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/175337470366?var=0&mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=710-53481-19255-0&campid=5338268676&toolid=10044&customid=EAIaIQobChMIg430wJmH-QIVD-TICh3kLAwOEAQYFSABEgKSkvD_BwE
timbobalobox
Do you mean this one? If so as mine is in bits at the moment I had a quick look at the rear and they've definitely got the hole in too (PASM Boxster 2005). In fact there are a couple, so I'm not sure if they're there to help removal/compression?
½cwt
My new Koni shocks were delivered with a wire hook from this hole (there are actually two on the Koni) to the top of the piston to keep it compressed in transit.
Bradders59
Could it be there to simply let water drain away ? Ive seen it on lots of different cars.
Ninesomething
No not that. In the pic where they're left to right the higher up one has a large irregular shaped slot that looks like its been chiseled out with a blunt intrument. Near the base.
