Double DIN back to single DIN

Morning all,

I wonder if anyone has done this: my car came with a Pioneer double din head unit (I am an old f@rt so can't be doing with touch-screens and menus in cars) and am interested in the simpler Continental unit which as we know is a single din.

So, does anyone know what bits need to be put back in that the PO would have chopped out, please? I've not pulled the unit far out yet so don't know what electrical horrors await...

Thank you in advance, the Pioneer one will be on eBay soon.

M

Once you remove the stereo you will see a frame. You need the single DIN version or non PCM version of that plus any cubby holes and fascia trims you might be missing.

Thanks bud, may get some cup holders to fill the gap

Much nicer to get a set of three clocks eg volts, oil temp, oil pressure or similar. I appreciate they'd need wiring in.

Thanks, I appreciate the idea. I was actually thinking of the 996 instrument cluster for the extra gauges, one day...

If you have a facelift car it should have cupholder at the top of the frame section. I'm not aware of any cupholders that fit the cubby holes. The lower one for a start is angled.

Thanks bud, it's not a facelift (MY2000) but my previous 98 2.5 had OEM cup holders above the stereo, perfect fit. Heater controls are already down below in the console bit so (fingers crossed, how hard can it be 🤣, should be an easy job...)

You can buy aftermarket cupholders that fit a single DIN space. Don't. They look cheap and rubbish, avoid. Think I threw in the bin straight from the packaging....
