Conking out! Any ideas why?

Hi guys

Was out earlier for a short return trip of around 40 miles or so, weather was hot (not that that should be a problem) and twice - once while about to pull away after waiting at lights in neutral with handbrake on, and later while in neutral reversing into a parking space - the engine quietly died on me.

Re-started without too much problem both times, but bewildered as to what might be going on here.

Only 'common' factor on both occasions was the car being on a very slight gradient - the first occasion heading uphill, and the second freewheeling back down into parking space.

Hadn't noticed anything amiss prior to either event, and the engine idle tickover was steady. No warning lights or error messages appearing.

Any clues as to possible cause? Anyone else experienced similar? Is this something the Porsche diagnostic software would likely identify?

Not taken it into Autowerk in Norwich as yet, but they're an independent specialist and no doubt have the relevant diagnostics. Just feel slightly uncertain about going out in it now in case it dies on me mid-journey.

Aside from those 2 events, it was running sweetly. Both occurred towards the end of the outward / return journeys, so after about 20 miles each time. Car started without issue when I returned to it after a couple of hours parked up to head back home.

Thoughts / ideas appreciated.

Possible crank shaft position sensor, however you stay it starts immediately after, generally with CPS it needs time to cool before it will restart

This would be my guess too having experienced similar with my 986 and 996
