penrhos
Going to look at a 2.9 on Thursday. Spoke to seller earlier to discuss the details that sometimes don’t show up in the advert or photos. There is a 1cm tear on the side of the drivers seat which will, should I buy the car, get on my nerves if it’s not repaired. Has anyone attempted a repair like this using the various online products/kits? Details of outcomes and any advice appreciated. Thanks (Steve)
Mattman42
I've used a couple of the repair kits with various results. I'd say you probably won't completely hide the tear, but you will be able to make it so it's not obvious or catches you eye. If you its the sort of thing that will bother you, I'd recommend getting a quote from a professional and negotiate it off the price.

Thanks (Steve) I worked in the leather industry for 38 years and, whilst I am not an upholstery specialist, I would suggest the answer to your question depends on a couple of factors. In principle upholstery leather should be relatively thick and strong so first questions are why and where has the tear occurred? I'm not familiar with repair kits but in principle it ought to be possible to feed some sort of scrim inside the tear to act as a strengthener whilst glueing the edges together. Glue mght affect the surface coat so my require a touch up afterwards. If it's along a stitch line then the edge may be weak and would more likely require a professional repair (as often seen on various car shows).
penrhos
Mattman42 - will negotiate a reduction and try to do it myself 😀. Red Rocket - don’t know exactly where it is yet but doesn’t sound as if it’s along stitch line. If I decide to buy will give it a go myself and bring in a pro if I c*ck it up! I got the best results with this kit - it was a pain to mix the colour match for a red leather, but for black, it was a lot easier https://www.furnitureclinic.co.uk/leather-care-products/leather-repair?gclid=CjwKCAiAibeuBhAAEiwAiXBoJBcbvzYLZJecS_fpoOYd5uFFSjwbHVGaDg3LpngLNMhqGGO2Fu_85xoCeVoQAvD_BwE

Saw it today as it happens and it is a small flap or 2 sides of a square about 1cm across on the outside of the bolster on the drivers seat. Great car but I am looking at another next week before I decide.
