Snakes On A Boxster.
Could be an adder or a viper.
Have you replaced your vipers recently? 😗

Treated the roof with Fabsil Gold. Quick and satisfying job as it makes it nice and black too.
I haven’t used it before, is it best to apply two coats? If so, do you apply the second when the first is completely dry?
Thanks
Yes and yes. Dries pretty quickly though.

Revisiting the whole LED lights question has anyone found a canbus friendly, compact and easy fit LED bulb for the main beams?
^^This
The dipped beams seem to have lots of options. The main beams not so much?

Looking to try this, did you have to mask the pale stitching?
Cheers

Yes I did on the handbrake

They will be black anodised and repainted red, the anodising fades very quickly and looks shyte, it was the first thing I did to the wifes car!
Black are indeed smaller than the S red ones, neither model had any other option from factory
So are the base brakes and S brakes the same on the gen 2 or bigger on the S, like the gen 1?

Singer for me. And a Boxster GTS for when I need something more practical 🤣

I thought the 2.7 brakes were smaller than the S - when it got to gen 2 I think they ended up the same size. But I don’t have anything the back that up.
Gen 2 brakes are larger than gen 1 on the base Boxster. Still black though.
Porsche used to option pretty much anything, for a price. My 2.7 987.1 had a 6 speed box as well as PASM, PSM, sport chrono, GT silver paint etc.
Still had small black anodised callipers until I painted them red 😎 -

Looks great, congratulations!
Now you have to tell us the spec.
And well done on the weed free drive and aligned wheel crests, they like that round here 😀 -
2009 987.2 here. Just been out to collect our Chinese takeaway in it. It was a blast!
I was thinking that power wise it’s more than I need for the roads I drive, the handling is sublime and even the ride isn’t too bad.
Would I swap it for a 981 with PASM? Maybe but £20k buys a lot of fried rice!Until then it’s a keeper 😀

Seems to me that the clutch on a 13 year old car is likely either gone or going soon - I know others will say they have nursed theirs to interstellar mileage but that is the exception not the rule. So a new clutch and flywheel for the price of the parts isn't a bad outcome IMHO.
A gen 2 will be more expensive and still potentially need a clutch - and the DMF if needed is lots more than the .1 version. Unless it has PDK of course but then there's a premium to be paid for that.
But of course you've seen the car and I haven't!
Decisions, decisions...
-
I too have a spreadsheet, you've reminded me to add some things to it 🙂
Essential maintenance costs (exc. fuel, insurance, MoT, tax) comes out close to 50p per mile, which I expect will drop a little next year as first year included a clutch and major service.
Fuel is probably 23p-ish per mile.
Toys and other extras add about 10p - must try harder 😀

No , that's not an option for a 981.
All the Tequipment options for a 981 Boxster are shown at https://content3.eu.porsche.com/prod/pag/tequipment/TeqFinder.nsf/TeqFinder?ReadForm&co=30&sp=1&ma=PCGB (RL)&bt=981&ba=718&ac=model&mo=Boxster

Replacement end caps for my roof finally arrived this morning so I now have a functional hood again, thanks to @Mattman42 and his spot on write up 👍
Took the opportunity to grease everything I could see and it’s now much quieter in operation too 🙂

Nice ! I’d never thought to do the handbrake cover. I’ll take a look at doing that on mine too !
Well I’ve got so much stuff left over I’m looking for things to put it on!
Because Metropole blue is a non-standard colour you have to get 30ml which is enough to do the whole interior 🤪

While waiting for the parts to fix the roof I have done some leather work (ooer) to the drivers bolster and handbrake, inspired by @iborguk
handbrake before
during
after
Bolster after
Colour lock kit seems to give good results?

Thread resurrection sorry....
Do you really have to pull the front suspension apart to change a front wheel bearing 😲
Not looking like a DIY job to me!

Did you use longer bolts for the 7mm spacers or standard length? I have a pair waiting to go on...
Longer bolts, came as a kit with the spacers from TWD on eBay. They are bright coated so hopefully will stay rust free.
-
So Saturday I was feeling pretty pleased with myself having swapped out rusty wheel bolts for shiny new ones with 7mm spacers. Also cleaned and sealed the wheel barrels and scrubbed the wheel arches for good measure. I even managed to get my bike in the car so I could drive the Boxster to Birmingham for a cycle event on Sunday 😀
By 8:30 am Sunday I was feeling like an idiot having caught the roof latch when putting the hood down to get the bike out of the car and popping the rod ends. Cunning conversion of electric roof to manual being the result 🤬
At least I didn’t get wet cycling 🤨

I’ve bought 2 Boxsters privately and a 911 from a OPC.
Touching wood obviously, the two Boxsters have been solid bar a random age related issue (gear cables). The 911 was back at the OPC within a week because it rattled like a swarm of angry bees was in it. I then sold it a year later at a significant loss privately and the buyer had a replacement engine put in it on extended Porsche warranty.
Iborgk’s list is a good one but there’s plenty of things that are not easily seen which could still catch you out.
I’d say It’s a bit of a lottery buying a second hand car. Buy privately and the ticket is cheaper? -
06 car has hard backed sports seats. An expensive option I think?
Not heated would be a problem for me too though.

I gather it's generally regarded as a 'when' not 'if' problem, so yes very common.
The cables aren't mega money - OEM are £325 at Design911 (probably similar at your OPC parts counter). Needless to say an indie would swap them out for less than your OPC quote.Yeah I know but factor in a trailer and the hassle factor and OPC became the least worst option. At least the only other thing they could find was the alarm battery which I turned down at £345 🤣
Silver lining I hope is that the gear change should now be like the proverbial hot knife through butter🤞

Gear cable snapped. Limped to Porsche Cambridge and it’s now sitting there waiting for them to look at it next week 🙁
I feel a big bill coming my way 😢
Quoted £808 which could have been worse I suppose.
This is the second Boxster I’ve had this happen on, is it common or am I just ‘lucky’ 🤔
