  1. OP signed up, posted a question then signed off not to return (yet).  Guess he either didn't actually need an response or didn't expect any quite so quickly.

My Toyota diesel eventually got gummed up with short journeys. Every year service came with a bottle of fuel additives to put in at the next top up. I don’t know what adblue does, or how long you intend to keep the car.

Adblue is introduced post combustion to break down the combustion gases to less harmful ones.  It's purely for emissions.

  3.  Not sure anyone can diagnose from this description or if you would want to rely on a Internet diagnosis with minimal information.

If it's cheap enough get an inspection from someone qualified to advise you properly. If it's not find another.

If I had £30k and the choice between a Super-duper 986 and a 981 I doubt I would even bother looking at the 986 UNLESS it was in the same showroom and I HAD to walk past it on the way to the 981.

My point is, if you (or I) had £30k to consider dropping on a 986 you'd not be considering it  as a choice between that or 981.  You'd likely already have a 981 or 718 or a couple of 911s and probably a host of other cars as well.  You want a 986 for what it is and you want the best example available.  Clearly though that is a very limited appeal market right now hence they have not sold.  I really do think that if they'd produced them in the launch colours they would have sold better as 'classics'.

I'm not so sure they would 'fly off the shelves' particularly when you could buy a 981 for similar money.

I (sort of) get the analogue driving experience but given the choice of a 2.5 986 or 981 I reckon you are into Orange/Yellow colour territory i.e. EVERYONE AND THEIR DOG queue up to wax lyrical about how they simply love the bright coloured Boxsters and yet they are like rocking horse shyate, talk is cheap.

I wouldn't really compare a 986 to a 981 they are simply different markets for purchasers now.  Would someone purchasing an E-TYpe (say) for £70k be thinking ...but I could get a F-Type for that money?  Probably not, they are different products in markets now.

I think for the money this is advertised for, you really want to have a 986 boxster. I haven't driven the newer models, but in my mind it would be difficult to not take the newer version, or even move to another type of Porsche

Very different types of car IMO, the 986 is quite raw, unrefined and analogue compared to the newer cars, also lacking the power of those cars it gives more chance to use the full range without stepping too far into illegal speed territory.  It's more at the sportscar end of the spectum whereas the 981/718 is getting closer to a GT.

I agree you really MUST be looking for a 986 specifically to bid on one of these and clearly given than not all have sold Porsche over-estimated their popularity at this time.  I'm not sure why they didn't take the really early launch model instead and refurb those, IMO that would be a more collectable model. 10 1997 2.5s in silver and red fully refurbed to 'like new' standard would fly off the shelves.

I love how your old man gave you the good news first before mentioning the wall.  Hope it all works out soon.

He's over 70. He must a learnt a thing or two by now ;)

    No damage to the wall?

  8. Sailed though another MOT yesterday with just the usual advisory "under trays fitted obscuring some component".

Interestingly I was sat in reception of my usual kwik fit branch waiting and I got a notification on my phone that it passed (know your car app) before they'd even driven it out of the bay. I guess he must have punched the result into his computer in the testing bay but amazingly real time.

Today I grasped the nettle and replaced both aircon condensers on my 986 Anniversary. Meshed the PU while it was off. Very straightforward job  (only slightly tricky bit was seating the outside temperature sensor through the mesh whilst balancing the PU with the other hand) - took me about 3 hours in total including tea breaks. Just need to get it pressure tested now!

    welcome ....pictures are obligatory

There's an electrical connection that effectively "earths" (maybe some other electrickery) against the head unit - without "re-earthing" it you'll get the beep you're describing.  A search on here, YouTube or similar should help - remember that the 996 had the same set up.

you need to isolate the connection not earth it.  simple way is to just to put some electical tape or duck tape on the left side of the new headunit.  There's a metal prong that is sprung-loaded that will touch the side of the headunit otherwise.

They have a surprisingly lose fit. I don't use anything on mine on a track I'd imagine they would be safe up to 110mph so normal uk road use would be fine.

You could put one black cable tie at the bottom that would stop it d disappearing

Lost one of mine on a roundabout on the way back from goodwood, first year I had the car.  Just flung off and was crushed under following car.

You can tax a few days early only if the vehicle is currently taxed, otherwise it's as you described.

Wtf is that all about in today's age ?  It's hardly difficult to make the tax run from the date it is bought and be able to renew it a few weeks in advance ,  if they can do it for mot's they can do it for tax.   Pure money making scam to renew to the month not the date.
