Changed the AOS - the smoke disappeared.

Testing better tomorrow on highway, but so far the install of the OE part looks real good.

Took probably 20 minutes to remove the old adn juts about same time to instal the new one - not so bad for first timer :)

20mins!! It takes me that long to support the car and get the engine cover off!

I'm assuming yours is a later model that bolts on to the top and not the earlier style that bolts to the side of the block. I'm a reasonably competent diy mechanic and it still took me several hours fumbling through the rear wheel  well with limited access.

Removed the old air vents , and fitted  some 2nd hand side vents from Douglas Valley -- The type with the locating holes in for cup holders , then fitted new cup holders purchased from the dealer

So they actually made them without the holes!

    New exhaust

So managed to get powerflow exhausts Alcester to fit a exhaust for me today. Sounds excellent. Slight drone between 2-3k rpm but other than that I am very pleased.

I have the same exhaust and have found it droney as hell! It's now residing in my shed waiting for me to join both silencers with a couple of balance pipes. Whether it works or not...only time will tell. Should have it finished by the end of next week

Glad to hear that you don't find yours too bad.

  4. I think I saw this at the NEC classic car show back in November 2018. I expected to see a perfectly restored factory spec as new 986. Instead it was all rather disappointing and just looked like a well kept Boxster with a dull choice of paint colour and even duller wheels.

Not surprised their still hawking it around 18 months later!

I’m tempted to fit decat manifolds after my  next MOT. But not sure it would actually gain alot other than expense and stress.

I've always thought it was a rather peculiar thing to do for the amount of aggro that must be involved. Probably slightly iffy legally as well if you plan on using on the road.

    I fitted a replacement roof drip pan/tray 🙂

I'm definitely not 'handy with spanners' but I want to improve and actually managed to do this one. I'm feeling pretty chuffed 😊

So this was where the water was coming in! Grrrr...

Replacement (used) acquired from 9Apart and fitted today...

Nice one. I've always thought that piece of foam was an odd bit of design. But hey as long as it works.

I should have a look at doing this to my car, as I suspect mine has never been changed either. Does it have really awkward clip things to deal with?

The clips that attach the fuel lines to the canister separated really easily. It's just the inaccessibility hidden away behind the coolant pipes that make it difficult. My ramps are rather low(or im too fat!) so it made everything hard work.

  8. Replaced the fuel filter... Urghhh what a horrible job. Lying on my back with hardly any access due to the location in the middle of the underside.

Filter was the original dated November 98, with 115000 miles. Somewhat over the specified 48000 mile replacement schedule.

Plenty of brown crud came out!

Actually I have not replaced them, they were like this when I bought the car, however the last owner had replaced the condensers and rads on either side but I don't know if he did any work in replacing or refurbishing these.  They look like they could be removed and re-sprayed reasonably easily.

    Hope that helps - Stephen

Thanks Stephen and all others who replied, I think I'll remove the bumper over the winter and see if I can get them sorted.

As it’s a new car to me, I’m just investigating. However, tonight I looked into the interior light to replace bulb and front boot. Both were disconnected and worked straightaway once plugged in. Result. Also bought and checked fitting of outdoor cover. Snug.

I’ll also update my profile to show 2000 986 2.7 Arena Red.

A word of warning. The front boot light is notorious for the switch failing & causing the light to stay on....with rather inevitable results. If you're unsure try recording it going off as you shut the bonnet by leaving your mobile in the boot for several seconds.

Mines been disconnected for 5 years for that very reason.

    Cheers Jon
