Repaired the hinge on my storage cover with some Araldite, for the second time... Must be more careful.
I repaired mine with a hinge from Wickes which happened to be a perfect fit. Riveted on and painted black...looks almost stock 🙂

Several coats of lawyer I presume? My old early S ones were already silver. Is it just the S with he silver pulls then?
I always thought they were a techquipment option like the other silver trim pieces in the cabin like the gear knob, handbrake, and door pulls but I may be wrong.

Very good - can you share some info please?
What was the process you followed - high level?
What paint colour/code did you source to use on the levers?
How did you get the right graphics on the levers?
Be really great to know - asking for a friend - yes really.
I removed them from the car with instructions found online then sanded back smooth. Followed by a few coats of silver.... Renault if I remember correctly, £2 from the bargain bin at Halfords 😁 which seems to match the other silver trim pieces in the cabin perfectly.I'm certain any untoned bright silver will do the job though. The decals were sourced from ebay(link below) and applied to the silver before a few coats of gloss lacquer. Then finally t-cut and waxed to bring out the shine.

This guy approached the search the other way around.
Wow that Boxster really does look factory fresh. Not surprising with only 13000kms thought.
Wish it was in my garage 🙂

There was definitely one on Ebay last week, as I remember thinking ohhh you don't see them very often.

What Chinese budget tyre matches what the Michelin PS4 offers?
Surely you've heard of Linglongs! Best tyre ever made😋

I've had this before when the car wasn't used for several months over winter. I removed the lights and dried them off with a hair dryer inside the housing which sorted them.
I suspect the problem will return this winter though....perhaps the seals are just getting old.

Morning all, I've what looks like a cheap aftermarket box arrangement on my early 2.5 986 which drones like hell between 2-3k RPM. Like the sound on full chat, but doing my head in on long runs.
Seems to already have a balance pipe welded in between the 2 silencers (amplifiers), but perhaps this setup might benefit from a @KT986 style mod to equalise the 2 tail pipes?
Starting to blow at the (standard) headers' flange to the cat pipe, and wondering if it's worth spending £££ on cheap headers to improve things?
I have a friendly exhaust shop nearby run by a friend, if I knew what I wanted he could probably make it up.
That looks like a custom made system to me , rather than the generic ebay type.

You don't have to drive like a nutter to destroy the tyres.
Haha fair enough we'll have to disagree then. I'll just carry on enjoying mine in my own way.🙂

I don't disagree regarding choice of cars, my point is, if you are never using it properly there is no point, personally I don't think it is possible to get 24k out of a set of rears if you have any fun in the car at all. I have an XF Sportbrake for my DD and I find it the perfect foil for the 986 as well as providing much needed practicality.
I had PS2 when I got the car, IMHO they did not offer me anything over the Kumhos I have now that are much respected on here by much harder drivers than me and are a lot cheaper, however it is the name dropping that gets me, very PCGB🙄
I don't shred tyres but still love owning my Boxster. You don't have to drive like a nutter to get enjoyment out of it. Had mine 8yrs btw.

Inspected the my 2001 Boxster 2.7 after a good track day and found out that front brake calipers shows 'some' wear and needs attention.
Both images shows some concern on the brake piston boot... Circled the issue location with red.
What is opinion here, can I repair the brake pistons with new boots (and maybe brake pistons if needed to) or is there bigger issue to deal with (like machining work etc)?
I'd like to manage to keep these calipers if the repair is rather simple, but if there is larger issue to deal, I'll try to find used S-model brake calipers to replace these with.
I can't see what your concerned about. Aren't the areas you've highlighted just the outer piston dust seals?

Wanting to do the Boxster chop every time the hood goes down looks odd to me, but we’re all different.
I only use my car at weekends when the weather is decent so not much of a problem for me. I can understand why its frustrating if its an everyday vehicle though.

As above, the pre facelift glass hoods look a bit odd to me.
Agreed, whilst I've been tempted by a glass rear window unfortunately some of the aftermarket options look downright odd. There's one paricular make that's almost rectangular rather than curved on the sides which looks terrible.
To each their own though ehhh.

Can you vacuum the roof? I put my cover which was dusty on the inside (annoyingly) now it looks like cr*p. Might try that.
Yes I've vacuumed mine several times. Henry ones with the round brush attachment are deffo the best for it.

Went for a blast around not so sunny Northampton. Always amazes me at its ability to go round corners when I haven't driven it for a while. It makes my 1 series coupe seem like a hippo!😁

Please don't propagate the drivel fed to you by your idiotic government and the equally stupid media. Spain is still far safer than the UK.

Changed the AOS - the smoke disappeared.
Testing better tomorrow on highway, but so far the install of the OE part looks real good.
Took probably 20 minutes to remove the old adn juts about same time to instal the new one - not so bad for first timer
20mins!! It takes me that long to support the car and get the engine cover off!
I'm assuming yours is a later model that bolts on to the top and not the earlier style that bolts to the side of the block. I'm a reasonably competent diy mechanic and it still took me several hours fumbling through the rear wheel well with limited access.

So managed to get powerflow exhausts Alcester to fit a exhaust for me today. Sounds excellent. Slight drone between 2-3k rpm but other than that I am very pleased.
I have the same exhaust and have found it droney as hell! It's now residing in my shed waiting for me to join both silencers with a couple of balance pipes. Whether it works or not...only time will tell. Should have it finished by the end of next week
Glad to hear that you don't find yours too bad.
Remove seat with roof down?
in 986
Posted · Edited by jonogt6
Regardless if whether it's required to have the roof down it must be easier to remove the seats with the roof down specially bearing in mind it only takes a few seconds. It's hardly a spacious cabin!
