I always go for Y rated tyres as I live in a hilly area and I pick up quite some speed. Don’t want a tyre giving out on me as I fly on to the M4 roundabout coming back from Marlborough.
You should be just about OK with the 186mph speed rating!

This may help for some.

Ordered the new design Brembo discs (not handed) and Textar pads and some wear sensors for the front brakes on Sunday from CP4L for £212, arrived today DHL despite choosing economy delivery. Quiet afternoon so fitted them (getting a lot of practice on discs and pads as I did The Better½'s rears on Sunday am and the step daughter's front on Sunday pm). Almost embarrassed to post teh first pictures showing teh condition of teh disc. Lesson is check both the outside and inside of your discs.
Outside faces of old discs, look fine:
Inside faces 😱:
Old disc and new disc to show different drilling pattern, looks a lot like the rear discs which are not handed:
Also on the test drive I thought the exhaust was a little quieter after fitting the cat heat shields at the weekend which had been missing since before I owned it. May be need a roof up test too to check, but if this is the case it might explain why a few people have liked my exhaust sound and have been surprised to find it was standard and original.
Nicest surprise of the lot on the short dual carriageway drive was that a wobble/vibration I have been getting sine I;ve had the car seems to have gone with the new discs, it had been there through old tyres and new tyres on 17" rims then new 18" rims and tyres and a damned good clean and wire brush of the wheel to hub faces. Could have been a slightly out of balance disc!
Any thoughts why the inner disc has worn like that. Caliper pistons maybe?

Got mine from USA through ebay last year. $271/£221 including shipping. Only took a week to arrive.

Hi all just fitted a Continental head unit to my Boxster, I can now stream music from my iPhone and make/receive phone calls. Very easy job and I love the way it just looks stock which is why I picked the Continental head unit. Sound quality is a huge improvement from the factory Becker unit. I am a happy bunny
Looks fab...like it was meant to be there.👍

Tbh I don't just think it's Porsche dealers who can be poor. I had terrible experiences with a few parts depts over the years. Some of them are complete cretins. As the old saying goes...you pay peanuts you employ monkeys.

A few years ago my emissions were close to the mark and my mechanic said it was my fault for not driving the car much, which is fair enough. Before each test I now take her for a lively 20 mile drive and I get very clean emission readings.
Yep there's definitely some benefit in it.

Passed its mot this morning. 1st time in 9 years its had a totally clean sheet with no fails or advisories.
Its always been flakey in emissions for the last 6 or 7 years. This year I chucked some Wynns Pre emissions test treatment in the tank and took it for a 50 mile high rev blast.😀

There's a review on YouTube from Its Joel. His videos are really watchable and he's done a few with his cheap Boxster. These must be really loud though. He seems to like them....not for me though.

Looks like he's sold plenty of cars to me so probably a dealer but without any benefits to the seller. And those wheels would have me running a mile.

Changing the subject slightly...has anyone attempted to dye their carpets yet? My metropole blue is in great shape but has definitely faded in the last 23 years.
I dyed a black carpet in my old Triumph a few years back and it looked awesome, so I'm tempted to try it in my Boxster but blue may be a bit more tricky.

Thanks, Menoporsche!
Well, maybe just some +20% bulbs then...
I fitted some PIAA +20s to SWMBO's MX5, and they were a definite improvement and lasted until the car was sold (last Saturday).
Much as I would like to have a stereo with a "period" look, unfortunately they are either horrid cheap Chinese tins with old brand names on, or insanely expensive.I'm going for a fairly sedate-looking Pioneer unit with Android linking, Bluetooth and USB and may add a flat active sub in the footwell to augment the low-end, as the car was fitted with the poverty-spec dash speakers. Previous owner had the CDR22's bass and treble both maxed-out...it was...a bit harsh. I stuck a £15 Chinese HU in it (plug & play apart from the aerial connector) as a short-term measure to give me MP3 music and even THAT was an improvement!
Hi there. Sounds like you may have already purchased a new stereo but if not, Continental do a good range that suit the rest of the interior-

Just to bring this one to a close, I thought I'd give you all a laugh (make you weep?) at OEM Porsche prices. PC Norwich told me the price of a replacement backbox/muffler for the 986 facelift model is... £1,941.73. I did say to the parts guy before he told me the price that I was already sitting down.
That doesn't include the Oval shaped exhaust tip, which comes in at an additional £388.38. Bargain!
The 'good' news on the above prices is that they're both inclusive of VAT...
I think, having driven it more since, that I'm going to stick with the aftermarket box I got fitted. It may be noisier, but it does look better than the original.
Thanks all for your various input.
I'd keep an eye on ebay if I were you as good genuine Porsche ones are still out there. I'veJust picked up a 2nd hand silencer with zero split seams for £40. Probably good for at least another 10 years.

Bought an Oettle bypass exhaust from ebay. Took a chance on it as it was local to me, even though it looked a bit shoddy it the photos. Spent several hours cleaning it up and amazingly it has zero splitting of the outer seams. Its also an early type exhaust with the different mounting so is akin to finding the holy grail!
Only £40!!
Fitted this morning and sound fantastic but is just too loud for my tastes which is a shame, so the bypass exit holes in the tip are going to be restricted to make it quieter.. I must be getting old as i know a lot of people really rate the bypass mod.
Before and after pics.

270 miles into road trip, Craven Arms last night, Bradford on Avon for 2 nights now. Drove down through Shropshire, Herefordshire then via Abergavenny to Bradford on Avon with stops in Ludlow an Ross-on-Wye.
Roof down, heater on 24 degrees and still a touch chilly in just a tee shirt!
Sounds great, I love the Shropshire/Wales border area definitely an unspoilt gem. There's a fantastic pub in Bishops Castle with great views from the beer garden. Perfect on a sunny day🙂

What, where, when in Church Brampton? Is it a regular event of a one off?
First time it's been on as far as im aware. Organised by the Rotary club and a fairly decent turnout for a small village. Wouldn't be surprised if they hold it again next year as it was a success.

Thit a new MAF sensor as mine had failed. Went from working fine one day, to the car not starting the next. Fortunately I'd picked up a new old stock Bosch one from the NEC classic a fee years back for an absurdly cheap 30 quid.🙂
Went to a local classic car show in Church Brampton near Northampton this morning...has a good selection of Porsches on display and a fabulous Alfa Romeo Montreal which has to be one of the best looking cars ever made.

I guess if you fit the ash tray delete, as I have, there is no way for coins to drop through.
Yep true. The ashtray delete seem to be a popular option.

Thanks, any downside to leaving it off, given the black cable was fouling on it?
6 hours ago, bally4563 said:It does on the 986 acts as a bearing surface for the cables
It's actually listed as a coin deflector and it was added as an extra piece soonish after the 986 was launched as coins were becoming wedged under the cable mechanism.
It doesn't really serve any other purpose.

Possibly a reflection of how difficult it is to get it 'right' in the available space?
Yes maybe, but I think there's an element of Porsche tax going on will a lot of Boxster aftermarket exhausts as well. I mean it can't be that difficult to manufacture a metal box with a few pipes in it!
MOT failure.

I tried this once...unfortunately it must have dislodged the retaining springs as next time i drove it with my better half in the car(who doesn't appreciate the joys of an old Boxster like me🙂..cant imagine why) the springs parted company from the back plate and sounded like the end of the world had arrived!
