  1. I had no idea about options when I bought mine. Fortunately I struck lucky and the original owner had opted for full leather, sport seats, hifi package, Mo30 suspension and techuipment interior silver trim niceties 🙂

Thanks to jonogt6  for showing ebay exhaust,i thought it looked decent as well,so i bought it on saturday, picked it up last night,540ml round trip, bar the very faint rust as seen in pic its a minter, cheers.

Looks like you got yourself a bit of a bargain there. And 540 miles wow that's impressive!👍 Are you going to polish it up or fit as is?

  3. If i was in the market for another exhaust I go for something like this one on ebay. Doesn't look great cosmetically but the seams are completely solid as far as I can tell from the photos. A liberal dose of Harpic Power Plus 10X and it'll probably look like new.

Definitely from a 2003/4 Boxster as it has the removable tips. Great price as well providing the seams are as good as they look.

If you are handy with the DIY you can refurb your old ones and refill with poly. Adjust the shore for a mild uprating.

A decent sounding method. However in my case i noticed that both rubber inserts were sitting approx 8mm lower on each of the old ones where the constant weight of the transmission had pushed down on them.

Nice work; where did you get the replacement transmission mounts?

I ended up buying them from the USA via ebay as it worked out cheapest and doing through the eBayglobal shipping programmeant that import taxes etc were dealt with at point of sale. They only took a week or so to arrive and Rein get really good parts reviews so very happy with them.Ki1zCnRf.jpg

  6. Not today but over the last couple of months since its been sorned.

Ditched the aftermarket exhaust  and fitted a 2nd hand replacement from a 2004 S.

Replaced both transmission mount, no photos unfortunately.

Replaced part of the shift mechanism that I didn't even realise was broken until I removed the exhaust. Bizarrely it had been changing gear better than ever in that state.

Found some rust on the body! This is in the seam that protrudes in to the rear arch. Now ground back and treated with rust converter and painted. Will hopefully keep it at bay for a few years.

You could do it by fitting a Ferrari FF drivetrain, backwards, after removing 6 cylinders, cutting and shutting the in the frunk of a 911 C4.

    Nothing to it.

That's exactly how I did it. Took me a couple of hours but an easy diy 😉.

3D printed stuff can be strong as anything, they print a lot of parts for manufactured cars these days.   I think 3D printing technology must have come on a bit.

OK fair enough....I just thought it looked at home made.

Anyone watched Hoovies garage on YouTube.Clearly he's filthy rich but seems to have a thing for ratty versions of prestige cars....one of these being a 996. He took his to his local opc for evaluation was presented with an  extremely long list of faults. Bottom line is they tried to fleece him as they didn't know he has nearly 1.4 million subscribers. Hello,

So I am enjoying Boxster ownership and the interior is just lush (not everyone’s cup of tea). Last week went for a drive up the Fife costal route (pic below) with the wife and my best mate with his 996 C4S. The Boxster just turned 54k on the trip. What I did realise is the exhaust needs to sound better to match the car, my mate has the PSE on his C4S and it sounds fab.

Fortunately I have a friend who is a professional welder and has offered to do the “gundo,” hack which from I’ve read replicates the PSE upgrade. Could anyone advise what length and width of steel they used for this and any tips or advice? I have access to a garage, lift and will pre order spare clamps and bolts should any fail or need replacing when removing the exhaust.

The car will be booked into Motortune in Shotts who come highly recommended for the Clutch, RmS and IMS work in March. 👌🏻

Dunno much about the Gundo hack but you're right...your interior looks lush 👍

The other couple of things I noticed today:

1)the engine oil gauge on the dash was showing the oil level at the lower end of the scale, whereas when I checked the actual dipstick it showed the oil level at the upper level - very strange - anyone else notice any inconsistency? And is it normal for that 'check' light to be on?

    IMG_3412.jpg.ee12f3c3657d9d552a728bc2b2784553.jpg

2)in the front corner under the roof hood there's what looks like an electrical connection, but guess it can't be as it's in a rain gutter. Does anyone know what this is?? I did take a look in the parts catalogue but couldn't see it - it seems to be adjustable whatever it is.

That's not an electrical connector...its to adjust the height of the clam shell so it sits flush with the rear wing when closed. Very simple but effective.

Had more thought on this. The shove forward is more like if you had your rear glued to a toilet seat, it would be that kinda of panic movement to free yourself, but rather than pushing on the seat you kind of pull it with you. I'm sure you'll have fun tomorrow.

Is this something you've ever experienced?😉

Please go to p*ssedonheads and state this, there are many, MANY a keyboard warrior that will chastise you, you bad man.

(Nearly) every new iteration of a vehicle model is ‘better’. It doesn't matter in what context but if its not then the producer has obviously wasted millions in research, design, implementation....

Personal view, wants, needs and ownership gives us a perception thats sometimes difficult to see through.

Very true, Ford has got it wrong on several occasions though, although probably caused by paring costs to the absolute minimum.

I am confused as to why so many of you think that looking more modern equals better.  To my eyes the interior of the 987 looks dated, like a 2000's Ford.

The 986/996 headlights just seems to be ageing so well, when I look at the 987 or even going back to the 993, they just don't fit the body right.  Not like the round ones did on the 964 and earlier.  That was one of the main reasons why that gen got so much hate for it's lights.

Another thing is saying the 987 drives better, so?  This is purely a question of looks and what Porsche did to either make people like it more or less.

What is it about the 986 that just hits my spot?  Maybe it's because I love the 996 so much and the 987 looks nothing like it, where as the 986 has the same front.

I'm completely with you about the lights. I think the 986 shaped lights are superb regardless of whether they're clear or Amber. I've never understood why there's such a dislike for them.

People are highly unimaginative when it comes to design though, hence why most cars are now varying shades of metallic grey. Of course car manufacturers won't complain...carbon pigment reduces their paint costs significantly against over other pigment bases.

Hi Guys, I am planning on changing the transmission mounts on my 986S I have bought the 2 hydraulic mounts without the brackets, that attach the mounts to the sub frame and gearbox. I have the Bentley manual for the Boxster and it says that it is just a matter of removing 2 bolts/nuts then another 2 bolts to remove the bracket and mount from the car but it says not to remove the torx nut that holds the hydraulic mount to the bracket as it will destroy the mount. This is not a problem with removing the old mounts but will it also destroy the new mounts when fixing them to the brackets ? I really don’t understand how removing the torx nuts will destroy the hydraulic mount can anyone explain this and how will I avoid damaging the new mounts ?

I think it means that if you try and remove the torx nut while on the car it will potentially twist the bracket and the internal rubber parts of the mount. Once off the car no such problems, as the bracket can be held securely in a vice for removal.

I have 3 keys for my car. Only one was fully functioning when I bought it. Recently I started having issues with the fully working key and when I went to the dealership for a windshield replacement, they reprogrammed it for me. That worked for about two weeks. They have since offered a key replacement and programming for $528.00US installed (which they claim is at cost). I seem to be getting along nicely without the convenience of the remote feature. I manually lock the doors and when opening with the key, the only inconvenience I have to deal with is having to insert the key in the ignition and turn to position 1 within 10 seconds to avoid the alarm going off. My questions are: 1) has anyone else been going without the remote feature long term ? and 2) other than convenience is there anything else that I am missing by not having the remote feature ? I would much rather put that $500 toward new shocks, etc. and put the key replacement on the back burner.                 Keep all four on the road ...... tommy z

My keys gave up around 2014. As it's a 2nd car and only does about 1500 miles a year its not too much of a problem. If it was a daily driver it  could be rather irritating though.
