So, my journey towards a resolution has come to an end. I can neither confirm nor deny that the costs have been covered, and not by the 16yo.

If anyone else ever has the misfortune to have this happen to them, happy to explain the process...

It would be useful to know? Lime insurance? Or did you buy an angle grinder lol

As I said yesterday, I'm sorry to see this.

However I can see where the company is coming from.

They hired/rented an individual one of their bikes with presumably T&C's presented and accepted.

And here is where the problems start, can a 16 year old accept the hire without leaving a valid Ccard etc. What happens if the bike suffers a total loss, who pays, presumably the last renter? What happens if the hirer causes an Road Trafic Infringement (sorry fek knows what they call fekwittery nowadays) , who's responsible etc.

LIME rented the bike in good faith and the renter left it lying at their ar*e, I am struggling to see how that is the responsibility of LIME and not the renter.

    - your honour when I left it it was standing on its appropriate stand!? I can only assume the wind blew over, thereby an ‘act of god’. As I said previously get your angle grinder out it will make you feel much better. Get your car repaired and move on.

I think I would have taken the bike into safe care until Lime paid for the damage and retrieved the bike. ;)

As has already been said, these bike hire companies have to be insured in order to work the streets.  If a council has opted for a company without adequate cover to pay for accidental damage (as they appear to be telling you) then their licence should be revoked.

Same or take a small cordless angle grinder and cut every single frame of a LIME bike you see in half ☺️

I'd be interested in how many of the replacements have failed. Would all the replaced bearings be of a 'reinforced' design and if so does that mean you're largely protected going forward? I've heard of a couple of incidences where a replacement did fail (catastrophically) but I'm not sure of the particulars.

If the existing bearing shows wear chances are the replacement one will too in time. Which is why all should review the removed one. Probably to do with the shaft geometry and a build up of tolerances in the wrong direction. Which would explain the randomness of the failures.

I think and I may have miss understood but it maybe slightly shamford on the inner race so the centre bolt stays in. He said when he unbolted it, it just fell out of the bearing and normally it doesn't. I will ask when I pick up the car and get more info for you all.

Be interested to see pics of the one removed to see condition.

I'm considering this 2001 986 and just got what appear to be the complete service records. If anyone knows more than I do (that's all of you), and if you don't mind, could you please take a look and tell me what you think? There seem to have been some issues along the way. I'm not sure these are red flags, or if I should be happy they've been identified and remedied. Thanks for any input.

That last invoice would worry me! Loss of coolant, customer topped up multiple quarts of oil, investigated and cylinder 6 has a leak and low on compression.  That would indicate a cracked cylinder head to me.

The cloth seats in the Mini with heating are the bees knees in my opinion, mine in my 986 are nowhere near comparable, assume the leather has something to do with it.

I can notice a difference when the Mini uses start stop and it knocks the power to the auxiliaries. Can’t imagine there’s much wrong with your battery but maybe check all that’s ok first if you think it’s a power issue?

My 986 heated seats are excellent. 2 settings which you can feel almost instantly and have to turn down or off as they almost get too hot.

Emissions figures alter by wheel size and other options fitted at the factory.

So in that respect the emissions are vehicle specific.

Reading TFL’s note seems to suggest that whatever paperwork you sent them is missing the VIN to link the stated NOx to your actual car.

The whole thing is bit strange. My 02 S is now exempt from ULEZ, having been exempt, then non exempt! Maybe it’s the 18” wheels fitted at the factory lol

What would be the point if the car is no longer under a warranty or is too old to have one?

The only determining factor is as the result of an insurance claim following an accident the insurance company try to wriggle out of paying out as the tyres were not N rated and the cause was you skidded off the road 🤣 I’m sure they would try it on! Maybe!!!

I would think if your tyres are road legal they wouldn’t have a leg to stand on.

  11. I have red callipers on my S and I think, without checking, they were a factory option. I replaced the hood same colour as original with a glass back window as I found the original plastic one split and a PITA. Also fitted Zunsport front grills as that made sense after fitting new condensers. Other than that mines pretty much standard as I like the ambers, original stereo etc. Would like more exhaust noise but would like it switchable like PSE but is expensive. At the end of the day it’s your car I would do whatever mod makes you enjoy your ownership of it even more.  I do have a couple of motorbikes which generally are heavily modded however I do box up the original parts when I sell and it’s never affected resale price.

TfL and Khan et al can do one as far as I'm concerned. I am moving out of London. Where I live it is just getting stupid now. The council is forcing through a "Clean Street" in my area as their previous idea of a LTN generated too much noise and resistance. Even though over 70% of people surveyed voted against the whole cockamamie idea they are hell-bent on forcing us all to cycle or walk. Why the f*** should I walk when I have a Porsche??? I suppose they think it's a great idea that I have to walk in one of the hilliest (is that a word?) part of London to do my weekly shopping and then carry a whole week's food and beer home. Can't see any of those idiots doing it - Khan apparently drives 4.5 miles to take his dog for a walk when he has a park right next to his house ffs.

I'm afraid I am also not trading the Boxster in for a toaster with wheels - especially not when the Boxster is paid for and a toaster on wheels is going to cost me north of £20k. I would rather lose £20k on selling the house and moving somewhere else thanks very much - and before anyone says I must be rich let me assure you I am not but I refuse to let these brainless idiots dictate to me what I can or can't do. With this lot it's do as I say and not do as I do.

I wouldn't worry too much as I don't drive into town but the ULEZ is coming all the way out to the south circular and that is right on my doorstep. So, no thanks. I would rather leave London.

    You won’t regret it.

Apologies all, I have not been following the threads on this.

A letter from TFL arrived today informing me that my 986S is not ULEZ compliant. I have heard that this is in fact not the case and can be disputed. I am not sure how, but i was told that a certificate of conformity would tell TfL what they need to make it ULEZ compliant.

What is the latest on this please?

You can check your reg online, my 2002 S is exempt ULEZ only the congestion charge applies

Well pleased, so I have finally gone the electric vehicle route!

Don’t do it 😱 I’d like the UK to end up like Cuba running around in vintage ICE vehicles forever lol

I like personalised plates and that does look good.

Just surprised 981 PDK didnt go for more money, think it might in the future.

I would pay £1350 for it now and I dont have a 981 lol

PDK has a different meaning to most (I'd probably get banned if I recited it) to the real drivers on here with manuals lol

  16. From what I've read if the bearing you remove is showing signs of damage then your likely going to have to change again in the future and if it isn't damaged you didn't need to change in the first place so both point to go with with the cheapest imho.

Be really interesting to know the condition of all those original bearings that have been changed, age, mileage etc.

I thought the general wisdom is that tiptronics have a much reduced IMS bearing failure rate so precautionary changes are harder to justify. In the 11 years I've been on this forum I can't recall one such failure.

Has there been any on this forum manual or tip? Not that I believe it but I thought tips were more likely to fail due to typically lazy gear changes causing lower oil lubrication...

  18. The switch over to milk floats will probably take 20 years plus from 2030. I think 2050 is when Johnson has committed the UK to be carbon neutral. I would imagine in reality it will take longer as they’ll be bullshyate carbon off setting. Meanwhile the other 99% of the globe will carry on with ICE as normal.
