  1. agree with all of the above. It depends on you and how comfortable you are with "what if" etc

MY experience has been buy a well sorted car and get it maintained regardless of cost. That way the car doesnt' give unexpected surprises and costs.

I have kept up the BMW warranty on the family SUV. It costs me £400 a year and gives piece of mind. Never claimed on it, but it was double the price of the 987.2 S PDK

  2. I'd be inclined to put the £1800 you would hand over for OPC breakdown away and use it for regular servicing and maintenance with a respected I dependant. develop that relationship.

your car is a low mileage gen 2 and generally reliable machines.

unlikely to spend beyond that amount in 2 years.

I don't like the 986 as the designer got frustrated and threw his breakfast at the front of the car.

    But that's just my opinion.

he said what I was thinking!

    fried eggs belong on plates.

The 986 is the "classic" Boxster, and whilst it will remain special, it's best left to others.

I prefer the 987.2 S over any 986 because it has a stonking 3.4L Dfi engine. The interior still feels modern (headunit upgraded).

Would i buy a 981 Boxster? yes, but all I'm really getting is the same engine in a redesigned and better body. Not enough to tempt me as yet, and then there is a 911 itch that needs to be scratched at some point.

Decided to go for the full LED setup from Porschelights but then found there was a 6-8 week delay on them... 😡 Then just went for a new right cluster from Design911 - arrive, fitted and works!  Time to book the MOT again now.  I've decided to have a go a replacing the non LED segments or the rears with LED bulbs.  They're odd things (PH16W).. and have found replacements for the reversing bulbs easily (currently on a slow boat from China) but can find nothing for the amber indicators.  Does anyone have any ideas?  I could convert the weird bulb housings to accept more standard bulbs I suppose?

do you have a link to the rear cluster that was bought?

Quick question - if I did make a claim on the Macan, do I need to state this when looking for insurance on my Boxster, or just the Macan?

So, if I claim for this, is there a chance my Boxster insurance could rise as well as the Macan??

yes you do. insurance is about the driver as much as it it which car you're trying to insure

Defo a must for me on any car whether convertible or not, well if it has leather seats.

agreed. Would miss them on all my cars and a deal breaker on a convertible imo

Thanks for all the replies and for clearing it up. Sounds like it has just gone to sleep then. It must be 7 days then not a couple, proves how much I use it!

ahh ok, if you had said 7 🙂

Today is the 1st anniversary of my Boxster ownership. It was on 46,000 when I picked it up and now on 57,000.

I imagine 11,000 miles a year is unusual for a 16 yr old Porsche.

Anyone with similar use, I wonder?

I average 5000 miles a year (3rd car, play thing) , so 11k is great going. Yours must be an almost daily?

More like congratulations ‘Old’ man as he’s 76, however as we are all living longer and he’s now got his little Jackrabbit he could be a kid 👦 as he certainly is at heart.

It was said in full knowledge of his age and pleased for the "young man"
