  1. I broke one of the sensors when I did my rears so I just cut them off and shorted the wires out. Dash lightπŸ™„ if you don't know when your pads are worn out well you darned well ought to. That said at my current rate of use I'll be old and deaf by the time this set wear out so I probably won't hear them.

Thanks for this. I still have a GT3 master cylinder sat on my bench for swappsies, but keep putting it off. Bench bleeding? Is that simple, if I look it up on YT for example?

The instructions that came with my gt3 m/c specifically tell you not to bench bleed it but then other posts I've read people say they did. I'm thinking there's just more than one way to skin a cat. Poor thing. M/c upgrade is a noticeable improvement though - stand on the pedal and it's rock solid.....

  3. I just had my master cylinder, flex pipes and some solid pipes done. Would've had front discs and pads too if ECP hadn't sent the base parts instead of the S ones. πŸ™„ I dropped in while they were doing it and they did the flex cables before they'd touched the master cylinder. Don't know if it matters either way.

I have messaged through AT and asked for ID number and some more pics

If the spec is decent that's a more than fair price. Few weeks ago I'd have jumped on that but I`ve decided to keep mine now.

  5. Back in my Alfa days (warm glow) we used to say they sold you the engine and threw the rest in for free so you couldn't really complain. Problem is that's true with an older Boxster - a proper engine rebuild probably exceeds the value of the car in a lot of cases. People do it but tbh it probably makes sense to just buy a slightly better newer car. And there's always plenty of those.

I thought I saw someone on yt using something like this that was pumped up with a big lever rather than a motor. Did I imagine it?

No I didn't. Not that much cheaper than the motorised one though.

Not actually doing any work today but got it up on the new Kwik Lift so I know that's all working properly now. Very impressed with the working height.hcB5Bvi.jpeg

Fitted new discs & pads all round, discs were very badly corroded on the inside which you cant see till you take them off!!

But the bloody handbrake shoes, whos stupid idea was it to use the springs & clips from hell, I have decided i will happily pay someone to change the handbrake shoes in future, took me 1/2 a day.

Im awaiting my Carnewal GT exhaust and an Aliexpress headunit so a busy couple of weekends if the sun ever comes out

If it's any consolation one of mine failed the day I picked the car up so Eporsch did it while I waited. I don't think they were any quicker than you. I did learn some new cuss words too.

    My 996 CSR had its LWFW fitted in 2015. It's a 2001 3.4 C2.

Is that before you owned it? Just wondered if you had a before/after comparison. Also do you know if it has the OE plate?

  10. Further research seems to say that the Sachs sprung performance clutch soaks up some of the crank/trans vibe and smooths and quietens things. There's also a theory that using a stock plate can actually cause the crank to break in early cars (like mine) because the crank isn't forged like it is in the 981 and `may` not be able to take the vibes. Seems a bit far-fetched but apparently there have been broken cranks. There's an article about it on the flat 6 motorsports website. Haven't read it. There are also people who say they've had them for ages with no probs.Β

  11. I've had the console off and removed the roof switch and I don't believe so. I might have read somewhere that the switch by the latch is either multi-function or there are 2 of them. Someone else will come along in a minute and tell me I'm wrong.....

Very Good! Thanks for all the tips, I would have never of guessed that the brake light switch would have been the culprit here, my mind's diagnosis went right to what ever kind of servo, or mechanism opens and closes the throttle body's plate. Glad I didn't have to mess with that. The old switch that I removed was completely shot, the plunger barely able to return to open position. Brake lights still worked, but the cut out was just getting worse and worse.

    Thanks again,

    BobΒ

That's the thing - seems to cause the throttle issue was before it ever stops the brake lights working. Which I suppose is a good thing in a way. Porsche's coded message to tell you there's a problem before some idiot rear ends you. πŸ™„

  13. Guess it just depends how much life is left on the original clutch/cover. Although if you get in there and it's worn replacement stock parts are not expensive. Sachs do a performance disc but it's a bit pricey.

The 981 is definitely a better drive but I won't have too many bad words said about my Britney! She was a great intro into 2 seater life and did a great job for a few summers.

@mr.tourette23Β maybe I dismissed the idea too quickly, I've seen a plug and play head unit with android auto I think I'm going to order first and then I think I'll start with some dash upgrades before looking at the door speakers too. There's a paycheck or two already accounted for!Β

    Β

You had a Z4 called `Britney`. I'd keep that under your hat if I were you. Anyway I don't think anyone noticed so you'll be OK.Β

That sort of wear is caused by camber, not alignment. I'd assume, the Boxster being a sports car, that the rears would have some negative camber, so that wear is probably normal, no?

    No. It'll be toe.Β

  16. Textar /sebro. I got them for free from eporsch after I bought the car and had them inspected. I called up and moaned and they sent me a full set front and rear. I did the rears myself because they were really bad but when I looked at the fronts I didn't think they were too bad - there was plenty of meat on the pads and the outside of the disc was smooth and shiny so I didn't bother. Only when it was on the ramp I realised how bad the insides were. Yeah I could do them myself but adding all the other bits in I'm just getting the pros in.

  17. Brake light switch - betcha. The ECU won't let you accelerate and brake at the same time as you'll know if you've ever tried to left foot brake. As the switch fails it sends the wrong signal to the ecu which cuts the throttle. If you back off and get straight back on it the power comes back.

    Easy fix.

  18. I've watched the second one before. If my clutch dies I'm def going light clutch/flywheel. πŸ‘
