  1. My old car came with the silver painted console which I wasn't keen on initially - blue car - but which I grew to love. Current one is the icky black plastic. I will get around to doing it - black I think although maybe silver. Black car. Plenty of folk have DIYed it and done a good job. Patience is the key I guess. If you mess it up you can always buy a s/h one and get it done professionally.

  2. Camouflaged by being absolutely filthy dirty with wires taped all over them. For some reason I only ever see them when they're going the other way and I can't turn round. I mean basically they're immediately recognisable as a Boxster - it seems to me that the rear deck it higher than a 718 but IDK why it should be.

When they were testing the 718 a few years back I found them sitting outside a cafe while pilots were having coffee. We had a brief chat in what I call German. I mentioned the war once but I think I got away with it.

  3. I saw the 2 test boxsters here last week and there was one Macan with them.

Manufacturers seem to be coming out of the woodwork backpedaling like mad on EVs. And sooner than I imagined they might.

Harsh - I think it is down to attitude, you need to suck up big time by apologising profusely and looking pathetic. Try to show any sort of defiance/cockiness and you're toast (not saying you did).

I was caught doing 105 in a BMW (so a real obvious target 🙂 ) and I must have apologised about 13 times before the window was finished rolling down. They also don't like excuses - just be honest - I told him I was just happy to be on such a quiet road (A11, 10pm at night) and got carried away. He reported  me for only doing 100 so I had to go to court (101 was an immediate ban) and I got 5 points and £600 fine - better than a ban.

I didn't give him any back-sass at all. Think it was just a slow day....

Despite what trolls would have you say, the police (in my experience, anyway) aren't bothered by those sort of things - I've had an illegally small plate on my kit car for 6 years and never been stopped for it. I'm sure if I was stopped for something else, they might add it to the list but you aren't going down for it 🙂

I got stopped for a small plate. Guy made me sit in the police car and everything. Got the book out to show me the regs. Tried to give me a fixed price. I said no thanks I'll go to court. He didn't look very happy but I never heard anything else about it. I wasn't speeding or showing off or anything at the time.

I can't disagree more... my imprezas some years ago were some of the best cars I've ever driven!!!

Although my last Subaru was way faster than my Boxster both in a straight line and through the bends I wouldn't go back.

if you ever want to revert back to standard, i'm interested in a cheap ebay exhaust for a 987 😅

the cheap ebay exhaust was the best mod i made to my 986, so looking for more of the same!

I still have the stock one but it's a bunch of holes held together by rust so probably not....

  8. It's way lighter than the stock item, I'm sure the engine revs better, it's not really too loud, it doesn't drone,  it's s/s so it won't rust and it passes the MOT. I paid less than £200 for it and it fitted perfectly. Almost. Problem is it doesn't sound like a Porsche which I think is due to the fact that the two sides aren't connected like the stock item. My previous car had the OEM system with the bypass mod and it sounded great - kind of musical and crackly but just really nice. In comparison this one is a bit flat sounding - more like a straight 6. Anyhow the guy said he could do it but the only way from one side to the other was complicated and would take a lot of time - poss up to 5 hours - and he still couldn't promise that it would sound like I wanted so I passed. Like I say - it's not terrible I'm just a fussy bastard.

I notice that on eBay the newer version from the same maker - they call them circuitwerks or beluga in the US - has a crossover pipe like the OEM part but they don't seem to be available over here yet. If they turned up here for reasonable money I might go for it.

Empty beer bottles, or wine bottles, according to taste, are perfect things to hold  bolts while you paint them. 😁

I have an old disc somewhere. Makes it easy. If not so much fun.

  10. I have the cheapskate eBay exhaust and I think it would sound better with a cross pipe between the two sides. I've asked various people if they could do it but no-one was bothered. Anyway I found a good guy in Northampton but because of the lack of space it's too complicated to be economically possible.

Oh well - it's not that it's terrible it just could be a little better. Shrug.
