What tyres

yes if you want to work out measurable benefit for an individual. The point I am making is in real world driving it will not make any difference.
So therefore, unless it makes someone in a 2.5, 2.7 or 3.2 significantly faster on a circuit, I only see this as marketing.
I am not saying tyres do not have an impact, and I am not saying I do not realise the performance benefit, I am merely pointing out, it is highly unlikely for someone to be many seconds a lap quicker just because of tyres. We aren't in racing cars.

'If you want to see what my cheapo tyres will do, come to Donnington in March with your expensive ones and if you are many seconds quicker than me'

'I expect you will be no faster or slower.'
You might want to quote my whole sentence there as you are clearly attempting to steer the context.

See here is my full comment and all it does is highlight my thoughts on tyre choice for road cars. To substantiate that point I am offering the chance for someone who appears to have questioned mine or another persons purchasing decision from what I can see as tyre snobbery only. Like I said, come to Donnington with your expensive tyres and if you are many seconds a lap quicker, I'll be only too pleased to report this information.
The reality is you won't be, and therefore my point regarding tyres is correct. My lovely cheeps nasty ones do just fine. Oh and they are mix matched. I wish people were not so gullible to marketing,

Not quite sure how you stirred that one in. I'm referring to tyres. If they are that great, regardless of how "good" you might be as a driver, the car with the better tyres surely will be much quicker as clearly the car with cheaper tyres will spin off and crash in a fireball. otherwise my point remains.

They were absolute shyatee and bordering on dangerous.
I saw the invoice at £210 fitted.
I fitted PS4 rears for £280.
Why would you to save £70? A tank of fuel. It boggles the mind.
if you are referring to me, lets be clear, I didn't put my tyres on my car. So therefore it has cost me £0. Resulting in a huge saving. There is no point me paying to replace good new tyres just because the brand doesn't fit.
So my experience is based on driving a car with tyres I wouldn't ordinarily have purchased and let me tell you, even the cars with 100hp more struggled to maintain pace, and I was going at what I felt is as fast as I dare on a public road.
If you want to see what my cheapo tyres will do, come to Donnington in March with your expensive ones and if you are many seconds quicker than me, I will be pleased to let folk know the benefit for a road car on branded tyres. I expect you will be no faster or slower.

There is a Chinese contender as well, but they won't work out any cheaper then the Apollo once fitted.
70 quid is a lot of money to some, including me.
Your probably thinking I shouldn't really have a Porsche if I'm not willing to pay an extra 70 pounds for a pair of tyres no doubt
£70 is a lot of money to anyone. Even those who say it isn't, but in reality they have money because they understand it is.

16 hours ago, ½cwt said:Surprised with the grip or the balance? Equal tyres should give balance, however you've described some pretty lurid driving on runs when a more premium brand could well still be planted. There might be a link here and if you go higher in the premium brands when you need more rubber you may find another level of performance/handling/grip that you're not had access to before - something to look forward to!
I've gone from Goodyear Asym 5 on front and Nanking on the back to Dunlops all round (and from 1"7 to 18" rims), much more planted and predictable rear end.
The grip. The tyres I thought would have offered less grip than what is on offer.

What Chinese budget tyre matches what the Michelin PS4 offers?
And the same can be asked about ones driving ability. I would handsomely wager that the majority of boxster drivers would be no faster in their cars with your ps4s or my whatever they ares.
In fact, if they thought they had super sticky rubber, I bet they would take more risks

I don't recall seeing you drive my boxster before....
@gIzzE I think tyre technology now has come on so much that even the most mundane of tyres in these sizes are of a particular performance. If I was buying tyres new I would buy something I was happy with, a brand that I knew for example. But for the first time I've now got tyres from who knows who on the car and as they were new when I bought it, they are staying and I'm surprised with the grip.

Had dent devil come remove the car park dents from the car. That's £180 I spent due to other people's negligence. Still, looks great now

Agree with this. But it does depend on your attitude to risk and your ability to weather any short term financial pain. For some every penny is spoken for (often before it's earned) and having the security of insurance can give them peace of mind.
I think that it's well known on here that I'm not a fan of insurance companies and regard them a welching bookies. We are going through the process of trying to claim for a holiday cancelled by the world's response to a minor virus (should be on a beach in Thailand at the moment) and they are twisting and turning not to have to cough-up. The net result is that we have done lot's of legwork with cc companies, hotels and airlines to mitigate our losses just as we would have to do if not insured. IMO a lot of insurance is just a placebo and the stress of claiming can be as bad as the original problem.
It depends on everyone's situation as you have suggested.
I have always been amazed by the earn ten pounds spend fifty brigade.
If you want to spend fifty get a job that pays at least seventy five.... But if they earn fifty they spend two hundred. Amazing how this economy works

Hi, Sent an e mail to various Warranty companies suggesting that their needs to be a warranty comparable to the OPC one, which does not restrict to having opc servicing, etc
Got a call this morning from MOTOREASY, and they have come up with the following,-
Everything covered ,inc infotainfment and nav. Wear/tear covered . Things found at service/mot covered . Single claim limit to value of car . Hourly garage rate of £144 inc vat .
18 Months for £790, payable in 3 instalments of £250, plus £40 down to reserve. NO Requirment to use OPC for servicing
In my opinion we survived for years without the need for additional warranties, cars have become more reliable and therefore i think this sort of insurance is high profit low outlay for the insurance/warranty company.
You are probably better off putting some money aside for the just in case if it bothers you.

Changed the bonnet and bumper.
When I clean tomorrow I'll post some photos

Exact same issue here, and same fix. How much for a new t-peice from Porsche, a tenner?
For a part I won't see and I recon the cable tie would last longer anyway.
For the purists, such things won't do.
Side repeaters lenses arrived today. Very shiney

Found why the washer jets didn't work, this bit was behind the battery presumably chucking screenwash all over the place. Wondered where the water was coming from considering its not rained here for at least a week or more. Looks like its worn out, although it did click back into place.
When I fire the washers, the wipers momentarily pause then carry on moving. Is this normal?
Looks identical to my issue. Cable tie sorted mine after I'd dismantled the wheel arch!

Had a new windscreen fitted. Fitted new wipers. Purchased a bonnet and bumper to pick up. Hinges arrived for replacement and new indicator side repeaters ordered.

Drove it 240 miles return to Oulton Park Gold Cup event, ran like a dream. First time I have driven the car since spinal surgery 6 weeks ago😄
Did they put your spine back or you still need straps to sit up straight 😋

Took the car to a place for a quote regarding the bumper. Had some interesting feedback so watch this space.
Oh and been driving around in heavy rain....lots … no wheel spin??

Chaps I'm not talking about racing drivers... We can all say oh yea ben Collins, Perry McCarthy or whoever the lady one is can run rings around xyz in xyz car. Wow originality.
Anyway, just like engine oil, tyre manufactures rely on the gullible side of humans to swallow marketing codswollop.
Who cares if the tyres make you hold better corner speed, brake better, accelerate better. In reality it makes very little difference in a road car context.
It will even make very little difference in a track environment. We aren't competing. We aren't trying to come first.
Oh wow you're 1.5 seconds quicker around a circuit than me. Yay. Well done. That's nice for you. Do you feel big now.
Like I said, come to Donington in March. I'll prove it doesn't matter what tyres your using on a road car. Remember you go to have fun and not to prove your justification of buying whatever bloody tyre you've been brainwashed to buy.
