Doesn't make any sense to me either but it definitely is the stone guard shield as I can make it worse by bending the thing in a tiny bit.

Lee from CPS said to me in his text its likely to be this. However ill know for sure when I drop the car to him...again ;)

Assuming you mean mean the rubbing, it was because I had slightly bent it whilst working on the suspension so it was a fulltime grinding rubbing noise.  Just jacked it up again and bent it back away from the disc a fraction using long screw driver as a lever.  IIRC others have found characteristics you describe to be hand brake related.

All the other work is just time and patience.  I change all the screws on the bottom of the PU to stainless and put all the push in plastic grommets/retainers back together with some silicone spray to hopefully make them easier to pull out if I need to take them off again.  I'll find out this weekend as I have to replace the horns as the only noise I can make at the moment is a flat 6 motor.

ah well that's another perspective. I thought it was the wheel bearing at first. just seems odd that it makes that sound only going in one direction.

Put all the last bits back on the car, front PU, repaired wheel arch liners, new (salvaged £6 for 10 delivered) plastic clips and stainless steel screws and a full set of stainless screws, 3 were missing when I took it off.  Improved the fit of the bumper PU particularly on the right side compared to my last attempt.  After a jump start, not quite enough juice in the battery after 5 weeks standing.  Only issue after all the suspension work was the drive's side stone guard was rubbing on the disc so had to tweak it a bit and I forgot to plug in  the brake pad wear sensors...   I'll admit it took it for a short test drive to ensure the battery charged.  Definitely needs tacking but nice to have it back on all fours.

was this hard to do? I've got this issue on the rear right... makes a whoosh noise going around roundabouts but nothing turning left when the weight is on the wheel....

Two new rear tyres and a new fuel cap as I was getting a bit of a petrol smell after a drive and discovered the seal in the cap was pretty perished. Full tank of fuel on the way home so a bit of a pricey morning.

About £55 for a tank of fuel for mine, is yours any bigger or smaller?

Watch out for the wet roads with new tyres, although i wouldnt take any driving advice from me :)

While I agree with you to an extent, not everyone is mechanically minded, and stuff like crash repairs or major faults might easily be missed.

Saying that, these are relatively cheap cars now, so I think another pair of eyes (preferably an owner or someone familiar with the 986) would be a good alternative to a full blown inspection, especially if you plan to look at a few cars.

I'm fairly mechanically minded if I'm looking at your car. My own... I missed loads of warning signs. Excitement...

Oh and the signs of a front end shunt too... I bought a gem 😁

I'd be happy to come with you if you wanted me to compare a working car to my not so working car

Personally don't see the use of an inspection , What one person says is an issue may not be an issue with the next person , A bit like an mot , one tester might advise, yet the next might pass or fail , its all down to an individuals perspective

What happens when an inspection is done and it comes back good but  then a fault occurs 6 months later , plenty of faults can occur overnight.

Got to remember these cars can be over twenty years old and cost between 3 & 10k , your not buying an investment

Just view anything your willing to travel to and use your own judgement

Sometimes it's good for someone independent to look at a vehicle. The person gets paid regardless and will spot things that are hard to see through rose tints.

I'd have welcomed another view on our motor before I bought it

Yeah it’s not camber - that’s all ruled out had geo done twice. I’m getting a sore right hand from holding the right hand side of the wheel all the time 😂😂 hopefully sorted today.

@Cheddar Bob I’m here for at least the next hour or so, hoping the cafe opens as there’s no sign of anyone. If you come down I’ll buy you a brew if it’s open!

sorry bud, I have only just picked this up. Did you get it sorted?

Took a trip to see Lee at Cotswold Porsche Specialists, cracking weather for the drive.

My first trip to see Lee and his gang and I have to say what a top guy, I had new BREMBO front discs and pads at a cracking price - Wheel alignment done which has thrown up a potential  RHF Control Arm (tuning fork) requirement (its knocking) so back again tomorrow for that to be done, see if we can figure out why the car wants to wander left despite the wheel alignment being 100% in the green! The car feels 100% better already, prior to the visit at motorway speeds the handling was a bit  wooly and on the country roads it felt like gravel on every corner - on the way home wow it feels so much better and firmly planted  - oh and The Chow Shed is open, takeaway only but there's a bench outside!

My car also wanders to the left and that's after Lee changed most of the suspension with alignment

I might be able to come and meet you if you want a newbie introduction ... Will b my first meetup 😁

I have the same exhaust and have found it droney as hell! It's now residing in my shed waiting for me to join both silencers with a couple of balance pipes. Whether it works or not...only time will tell. Should have it finished by the end of next week

Glad to hear that you don't find yours too bad.

Between 2k and 3k it's a little resonatey ... But to be fair forces me to use a better gear.

    No complaints from me....yet

  11. I think for the money this is advertised for, you really want to have a 986 boxster. I haven't driven the newer models, but in my mind it would be difficult to not take the newer version, or even move to another type of Porsche
