    Having had all these options across a couple of cars, my 2p;

PASM - Definitely makes the ride more comfortable on 20"s.  Had a Boxster S on 20s without PASM, wasn't too harsh that it was uncomfortable.  I'd look to have as a must have if you're going for larger wheels.

Sports Exhaust - must have but can be retro fitted, so technically not a must have

Sports Chrono - Sport Plus mode is almost undrivable unless you're hooning it and/or tracking the car.  Launch is good for one go, then never used.  Mounts can be an issue but covered under OPC warranty.  But I like the clock - yeah I know, a hugely expensive option, but I'd go for it because of the clock!  :D

So which would you drop if you had to…

Oh yes, much better. Gearchanges are faster, revs higher before gearchanges initiate, better throttle response, less nanny state I believe on traction control. Launch control is brilliant fun. Unlike BMW's etc there is no limit on how many you can do as well. Obvs you don't default to using it the lights...

Think you will be fortunate to get a 3.4s with the bits on for early £30k's though unless it's a high miler though..

Hmmm changing my mind again. There are a fair few cropping up trade at 34-36k. So privately and even at trade i will be ok. I am looking at cars at 45k miles and under for 2013 and 2014 cars.

@Jonttt will tell you the magic you can work with PASM with an external controller, and I think now a couple here will agree with him.

Everyone loves the exhaust - you can retrofit for 2k.

I'm trying to remember what's so special about chrono... someone else will.

That’s where I am going. Sports chrono gives smoother gear shifts, the  stop watch, sports plus mode and the engine mounts enable quicker shifts apparently oh and launch control.

I am leaning towards exhaust and PASM being the key ones.

  4. Hi folks, with the prices available I think I’ll be buying in the next 6-8 weeks. Maybe sooner. Which that being said many cars have two of the below.
    - Sports chrono

    - PASM

    - Sports exhaust

My thinking is bin sports chrono as the engine mounts are an issue that will need To be resolved OR bin PASM as I can add lowering springs for not a lot of money. I want the sports exhaust.

I still say the same & bought a Diamond Black BGTS.  It's lovely when clean!!

If the right car came up and it was black I’d struggle to day no.

Hi there, do you have a preference on exterior and interior colour?

Not really, no. Black exterior would be my least favourite but not picky.

  7. The time has come to add a wanted post. I am looking for a car with as close to the below spec as possible and looking to spend late 20’s to early 30’s. This is above what WBAC and dealers are offering from what I can see. I will require a pre purchase inspection at my cost.

I am looking to buy from January onwards as December is very busy!  Happy to pay a holding deposit for the right car.

    2013 onwards 981 s boxster or cayman.

    • DCT with paddle shifters
    • Full service history
    • Under 50k miles
    • PASM
    • Sports chrono
    • Sports exhaust
    • Extended leather
    • Bose
    • Nav
    • Front and rear parking sensors
    • Heated seats

Well confirmed it's a straight swap. Got bored and finished work early so went for it.

    Went from this:

Winner! Just got to finish putting the transmission plate, diagonal braces and undertray back on, that's a job for another day along with a fuller write up on the process.

Now waiting for the right one to fail.....

New vs Old side by side

    Well done? Easy to do?

Just updated the valuation of the Boxster T I sold in August. It’s down another £1300 since 7th November and a massive £10,130 less than in August. The trouble is in my experience most dealers look at WBAC as a starting point. Glad I sold in August via Wizzle as the dealer gave me £700 more than WBAC.

    £10k! Wow.

Parts alone are almost £1k . And there's 3 to 4 hours of labour on top. Just collected my parts yesterday and will be swapping mine out at the weekend probably.

And yes, that is 8 nuts at £2.17+vat each in there.....

Ok so that’s 1k for parts for one side! Ouch. I wrongly assumed that was the price plus labour for both sides.

Don’t assume it’s just going to be the 12-14 that has this issue.  Mine is a 15 and has had both mounts replaced. There aren’t as many 15 and 16 981s so it might just be that that accounts for the perceived lower number of failures?.

The steering issues seem much less common as far as I can see. There have been a couple of instances on here, and a few elsewhere but nothing like the level of mount failures, especially given that all cars have the rack and only Chrono cars have the mounts.

How much did you have to pay for the mount replacements?

  12. As a wanted post draws ever closer I spent some time looking at autotrader at 2013/2014 981 s models under 50k miles and they were consistently advertised by dealers 6-8k more than WBAC starting valuations. This certainly wasn’t the case 2 months ago.

2012-2014 981 and 991 seem prone to the failure of engine mounts and steering racks. Not so common on layer cars. I conclude I wouldn’t want either if they were out of warranty. Everything is £1k plus to fix.

Or just be prepared for it to possibly happen. I’m looking at 2013-2014 981’s and having done my research am aware of the issue and accept it my crop up.

  14. Interesting thread for a potential buyer (me). This isn’t surprising and seems to be across the board. I am sure some of it is seasonal but lots of talk about WBAC etc being fully stocked, people reaching the point they won’t pay values being asked etc

Autotrader stock levels are up by 20k cars compared to this time 7 weeks ago as well.
