  1. Ok, update and checking on leaking oil.  This is for a plan b coverage.
    Key points to consider are:
    - The claim limit is the value of the car.
    - The PDK geardox Is covered.
    - Dynamic enaine mounts are not covered once the car is over 5 ears old.
    - The car will require a health check showing is is mechanically sound.
    - It is worth bumping the labour rate to £200 as you can use OPC. This is 200 + VAT so 240.
    - If you don't want 'age contribution' (you pay more for every year the car gets older) to be a factor they can remove this and then 100% of parts and labour are covered but the cost of the
    policy goes up slightly.
    - Investigations are covered IF the offending failure is covered. If the offending failure is not covered then any work is down to the claimant to cover.

I need to ponder on this and excluding the dynamic mounts is a frustrations. For my 2013, Caymans 981 the monthly cost is £84/month.

MStuno 1,.   Mine was £790 for 18 months, £200 per hour labour rate. I paid over 3 months interest free. When I contacted them I said it may be a good idea if they could have a policy that mirrored the OPC one. They did adjust mine to suit me to be fair, but I still think they could offer an alternative to OPC one. Perhaps you could reiterate this. They seem to be one of the best, but have not had to put them to the test. Only concern is if PDK gets an oil leak, not sure if they would replace box as OPC does, may be worth asking , this specific question, cheers alan

Indeed it seems to be a good warranty without the restrictions of the Porsche one. If the claim limit is up to the value  of the car it should cover the PDK replacement.

Seems strange that engine mount’s would not be covered.  I’d be cautions about any warranty where a part had to be ‘named’ to be covered. Also what’s the claim limit does it cover a £16k new Pdk box?

The claim limit is up to the value of the car I believe but will be checking that once I hear about the engine mounts. As such would cover the PDK replacement. I’ll update once I hear more.

If you don't cold start the car and leave it sitting for days and keep your eye on the exhaust mechanism you should have no issues there, that one is entirely in your hands.

That’s my understanding. It will be driven at least once a week. I have also seen people manually moving them when a car is left for extended periods of time to prevent issues.

I have gone back to clarify about the engine mounts. If they are covered I will likely take out a policy with them. Being able to choose an Indy or possible OPC with up to 200/hour (not sure that will cover Porsche rates?) is key for me.

  5. This is the response. I’ll call them to discuss further. Labour rates can go up to £200 per hour.

    —————-

We cover all the EUC’s on the vehicle and computers , engine mounts would not be covered.

PDK Gearbox is a listed component

     Exhausts/Actuators are excluded

  6. Having done a fair bit of research the only item that gives me a squeaky bum is the pdk. I have emailed motor easy with the questions below and am awaiting a response. I have identified a good Indy who only use Porsche parts. In the event of a failure would Porsche allow an Indy to order a whole pdk unit?

    1. Does this warranty cover electronic or other faults to the Porsche dynamic engine mounts?
    2. Does this cover electrical and mechanical faults to the Porsche PDK gear box?
    3. Does this cover exhaust actuators failures?

@bandit_287you replaced yours with a salvage box, what did that cost in the end?

@Stuno1you've brought a lot of fear and worry to this forum since you joined the party. Do you work for a warranty company or a rival manufacturer? 🤣🤣🤣

However, today I heard about a friend who lost his engine on a Cayman at around 60k, he's bought it second hand from an indy a while back.  He's got a horrendous bill on his hands.for a replacement engine The failure seems to have stemmed from use of the car with an intermittent valve lift solenoid issue. Hoping to catch up with him soon for the full story.

Ha! Certainly not my intention at all! Just part of my process so I can weigh up warranty or not, Indy or Porsche, make sure I am aware of potential bills etc.

They wouldn’t touch my PDK in the early part of the year as they couldn’t get parts for it. Austrin gearboxes were very helpful and I had a lengthy chat with them about the issue. Porsche no longer supply parts to third parties for the PDK box. If the OPC can fix the box in house then i guess it may be  possible to buy the seal or gasket from them but nobody I spoke to(and I spoke to a lot)will touch the PDK box as they can’t get parts for it. I spoke to one gearbox repair company who were prepared to take a look but only after I signed a disclaimer to say that if the farked it up they wouldn’t be held accountable.

Did you have a PDK box replaced then?

Simply too expensive when you can pick up pdk boxes all over the country and change them over in less time. You need to create tools to even open them up.

How much would that be though? If an Indy can work it out and do it substantially cheaper than a replacement they will end up with reasonable business I imagine.

  10. Had the PPI report yesterday on the car I am collecting on Saturday and he suggested adding half a cup of water or antifreeze to top it up as it’s just below the ‘low’ line.

Assume this anti freeze should be ok?

It’s obviously after-market so I’ve no idea about it’s quality. I made a mistake in my earlier post. Meant to say cheaper than Europarts. So I suppose the saying “you pays your money ……” comes into play here with the design 911 one 👍

Ah ok. Makes sense. I would go Porsche route too.

Are scratched keys a thing?  Mine comes out of my pocket and straight into the ignition. The reverse of that when I park up! 😁

My key looks fine but does hang off a Porsche key ring all on its own. No “prison guard” style  key ring hanging from my ignition. 😀

It’s because I always used to put my house keys on the same set.

    Can it fail. Yes.
    Will it fail. Maybe

Is it likely to fail. No.

substitute  pdk with engine, or electrics, or steering, or suspension.

    same responses.

if they worry you massively then pay whatever it is to get a decent warranty

Or roll the dice and hope that generally it will be fine

but don’t forget to enjoy having and driving the car - when do you pick it up ?

I collect the car on the 18th. I am very excited and it’s giving me sleepless nights lol! I have already bought a key fob case, side panel decals, plasti dip for the rear chrome badges and will be adding ppf myself to the side sills and rear panel.

The car is having a pre purchase inspection next Tuesday.

I won’t be going down the warranty route. I have found a well regarded Indy near me I’ll be using. I just like to know that issues are possible and prices.

  14. Another issue people seem to discuss is the pdk. Sorry if this has been discussed before! Just continuing my reading. Is this a common or rare issue? Seems to be pretty rare from what I have read. As always, best to have all Info about any car.

2016 Cayman, the spoiler actuator extended but would not retract fully £900.00 to replace then the PSE seized and needed replacement £2500.  Both issues covered by the warranty which is due for renewal next month.

Was it just the actuators? A lot of folk seem to say if they are greased and checked regularly they should be ok.
