  1. Ok so a bit more fun today and need more time to judge the suspension.

The steering however is accurate but not very feelsome. The rack is also absolutely fine but slower than I expected.

The Evora had a faster rack and you can certainly feel more of what the road is doing.

As far as I know the latest maps are from 2018 and a new update is somewhat overdue (normally about every 2 years).  There are a number of people on here that have used an eBay user called Lucas ( can’t remember his I’d -I’ll have a search). There is a thread on here from a couple of years ago covering the process. You have to send him your car details and he sends back a usb coded to your specific car, cost was around £100 so somewhat more reasonable than the OPC.     As said though I’d be tempted to wait for a more recent update.

Will they still produce the latest maps for the older cars?

Nice write up, surprised about your comment on the steering though having come from an Evora.

I did find the steering better than I was expecting (also coming from Lotus) having read some negativity about it though.  The PSE is awesome and really would be a must-have on the next one.

This is my first flappy-paddle car, I was looking for manual initially but glad I got to love with this for a bit. Even in Auto the choices it makes in Sport mode when on a hack are really very good.  Quite magical how the car knows when you're "on it" or "having a rest".

Agreed. I have had a few flappy paddle cars and this is the best box of them all. Steering wise I need to get the cayman on roads I took my Evora on to really see the difference in steering feel. It’s certainly a better built car than the Evora, no question about that.

Paddles really help you focus on the driving and I love them. My Evora was manual but I do prefer a flappy paddle auto car.

So many joke opportunities, but I'll try and behave. For once. For a moment or two.

Ha! Reading my one comment there certainly are many ways that could go … all of which are filth 🤣

Those roads are incredible on a crisp winter morning with the roof down!

    oh, hang on…

    …sorry…

Haha… roof down is great until that cunning bird slaps you with one on your forehead.

Nice one, you are definitely in the honeymoon period. I remember when I got mine, I had to drive to back up North it attracted attention mostly good but it always surprises people and held its own.

You are bang on about the sound, when I'm driving in groups, I am always asked why it sounds so good, you just have to shrug your shoulders.

I think at first they can feel a little numb and remote but it depends what your coming from, as you get used to it you'll begin to peel off the layers, feel more and enjoy it more and more. The steering will never be what you want it to be but trust me it's leagues ahead of the earlier 991 cars.

It's amusing to hear you mentioning the ergonomics in a positive way, hand brake and heating controls aren't ideal but who cares when the rest of the package is so good.

The lack of spec as standard is frustrating, my Golf R has just about everything Porsche tries to charge for but then they don't produce these in the same volume, it's a different business model and that is reflected in the residuals.

    Enjoy it...

Definitely honeymoon period! Just very keen to get it out on some good roads on a dry day.

  7. Having driven the car for only 200 miles I thought I’d share my initial thoughts.

    Build quality:

The build quality really is quite special!  The switch gear are solid feeling and surprisingly satisfying to use. The leather seats are really nice with decent leather and are very supportive and comfortable. The way all the doors and boots open and close is solid and feels robust. The car just feels solid and very well put together for every touch point.

    Storage:

The soft coverings inside the interior storage is great and welcome to limit noise from anything in there. The clever way they use internal space for storage is just that…. Clever. There is so much storage for the size of the car. I especially like the two sliding covered storage spaces either side in the rear. Perfect for medical kit, speed detailer and dome micro fibres. Also, who doesn’t like the cup holders.

    Instruments and gadgets:

Ergonomically it’s great and everything is where you expect it to be. It’s also very intuitive using the PCM unit. The PCM unit is great and having Bluetooth, nav etc is a necessity for me personally. Dual zone climate control should be standard… like a lot of other items such as auto dimming mirrors but ho hum. I can get the seat and steering wheel into the perfect position which being 6 foot 1 is not always the case in sports cars. I wasn’t sure if I would be able to with the non memory 1 million way adjustable seats. I also love the multi function right dial on the dash. It’s so good! Having the map on so I can see the corners coming up at a glance is brilliant. Again very easy to use. Porsche have done a great job making it easy to navigate the cars features. I like the upgraded headlights that turn with the road too.

    Styling:

To my eye it’s a very good looking car. The wheels are amazing and simple so easy to clean. PASM lowering the ride looks just right for me. The rear haunches are mega and look superb when using the wing mirrors. I love the interior and exterior styling. The only thing I plan to change is to add a duck tail wing and Porsche side decals. That’s it!

    Driving:

In all honesty it’s too early to tell. Weather is poop and I have not driven it enough. What I can tell is that PASM is amazing and makes a real difference when activated. The PSE is bloody amazing! Manual down shifts in sports or sports plus are intoxicating. The character change of the car between driving modes is simply incredible and a revelation. I love the steering wheel and paddle shifters too. They are lovely and positive to use. Some I have used in the past are plastic and mushy feeling, not the case here. The steering feel is great and direct with what seems to be a perfect weighting. The engine responsiveness is as you would expect from a naturally aspirated engine…. Sharp and perfect. I am yet to drive the car properly and do a launch control and can’t wait to do that. The PDK box is something else, amazingly fast changes, smooth changes when in comfort, aggressive when in sports plus…. It’s an incredible unit. The brake feel is solid and confidence inspiring.

    Conclusion:

I am blown away and it is better than my old same age lotus Evora s sr in every way. I simply love it. I just want better weather so I can drive it more! I will put PPF on the sides as that is a chip magnet. My car is ok so want that done before it gets worse. The whole package is just superb. As mentioned earlier, more stuff should be standard and not options. I am very glad I waited for a car with this spec.

If you read all of that…. Well done.

Mine has the G Techniq treatment, so I use some 'special' stuff if I remember.

Looks bloody ace when it's clean!

I use their products too. It’s the c2 wax spray that swayed me to them. I am going to have the car paint corrected and treated with gtechnique products including the ceramic coating stuff.

  9. Ok. All clarified and it does indeed cover all gearbox components including sensors, it covers gear box oil leaks as mentioned earlier and I get up to 1k for engine mount failures, that’s not per claim it’s total. Paying upfront I ended up getting the policy for £822 per year. I also went for the £200 (£240 with bay) per hour labour charge and choosing a garage of my choice for any work.  Reasonable I think!

  10. One think that worries my and I’ll try to clarify is if the sensors in the pdk are covered as they seem to be the biggies issues.  Not mechanical. Looking the warranty they don’t seem to be.

    Gearboxes
(including automated manual gearboxes, automatic gearboxes, four wheel drive
transfer gearboxes, hybrid transaxles, manual gearboxes and transaxles).
The following components are covered: Automatic transmission brake bands &
clutches & modulator valves, drive chains, gearlever, gears, hydraulic gear-shift
governors & internal servos & valve blocks, internal bearings & bushes, oil pumps,
selector forks, shafts (all, including extension shafts), synchromesh hubs and rings

Yup that’s 4 hours of work right there! Not sure why the link didn’t work it’s a site with link specifically for forums!

  12. Well after 2 weeks of little sleep I collected the car on Saturday and I love it! It’s in very good condition externally and internally. I love the the interior! I have some small plans for the future and I’ll post as and when I make any changes. I just want to enjoy it now. So pleased to have bought it.

Thank you to everyone who has replied to my many messages posts.

This conversation rekindled my thoughts about my Motoreasy policy, knowing that PDK boxes are virtually a throwaway item if it goes wrong, or develops an oil leak , so I specifically asked if the box is covered for replacement if an oil leak occurs, and have an e mail saying it is so a bit happier now,

Indeed and I just got an email saying that even on my plan b cover they will pay 1k per claim towards new engine mounts.

That means the only item not covered is the exhaust actuators. Mine lives in a garage so that’s the least of my concerns with the known issues.

Going to call them now, clarify my points in an e-mail then likely I’ll take out the policy.

Well it’s considerably more than the OPC warranty for less coverage,  I guess most of that would be clawed back by cheaper service and other maintenance costs.  But really it’s only a viable option for those with modified cars that could not get the OPC warranty.

I have asked again about the engine mounts. Fingers crossed. If I pay upfront it will be cheaper so getting a price for that too. As you say, when you take into consideration service costs etc it’s probably a tad cheaper but agree less cover.

Austrin gearboxes are fixing mine.  They had an initial look over the car - I called 4 or 5 places closer to home and no one was even interested in looking at the car.  Then they called me and started talking about seals and stuff.  I wasn't really listening very carefully because I was thinking this is going to be bad news so I just asked - Can you fix it.  The guy said yes.  They are 180 miles from my house so it wasn't simple for me.  Hopefully its a good result at the end.

Great news! Hope it works out for you. Keep us updated.

While this is probably no help - when I was discussing warranties with Motoreasy, the active gearbox mounts were a specific point I asked for clarification on. Now, this is based on a 'Plan A' policy, but I was told after much back and forth that they would be covered under this plan due to them being not only a gearbox mount, but an electrical item.

By their very nature, they have an electrical connector. and would be deemed an electrical item.

If it were me, I would just double check they are not assuming it is a simple rubber mount as you would find on most cars.

I did exactly that and stated they are electrically controlled. No go still. Bit disappointed by that. For some reason age related but makes no sense to me.
