I have been looking at these as an option as well and got the following reply:

Dynamic engine mounts: The actual mount aspect would not be covered as this is considered body work. However, the electrical and hydraulic aspect would be covered for sudden failures.

So what does this mean? We know the car can still be driven if these fail, and it is typically an electrical issue, so is it covered or not?

Also, they have suggested that they cover £60/hour via their specialist I.e. the ones that tow the line and are compliant to their wishes! This makes me worry, as a local specialist is at least independent of their influence.

You read so much bad press about these warranty companies that it does make you wonder whether putting the £60 away each month into a Vanguard account might be a better route? I am torn on the idea to be honest.

I can see the value of the official route, but they want me to refurbish wheels, replace discs etc all when they don’t need doing particularly?

If you are referring to Motoreasy then I had to get them to cover up to £1k for engine mount failures. That’s £1k total not per mount as originally they would not cover them at all.

Over on the Porsche GB forum someone has had 2 OPC’s decline an exhaust valve actuator/back box replacement under warranty. The owner is speaking Porsche U.K. to see what they say.

It’s all about the level of risk you are willing to accept. I only took out the Motoreasy policy to protect me against PDK failure which is very unlikely but I don’t want to be that unlucky bugger.

  3. I can see you are giving it a go. Fair play. I considered this but having only a single garage and not the correct lighting it was a no go for me. I am paying £450 for a paint correction and ceramic coating that is a 3 year durability ceramic coating. This is good in Essex. Some charge £750 and more!

I then just use a pressure washer, pre rinse, two buckets, lambs wool not, wheel cleaning brush…………. And so the list goes on! Basically the professionals make it looks epic and I maintain it.

I have seen folks use the same connections on a 981 and then run the cable up the bottom of wipers.

Do you leave frunk open once connected ?

The socket runs up the scuttle tray and pokes out the section you use to open it. Yes, I leave the frunk open once connected. Closing it would potentially damage the rubber seal around the luggage compartment.

  5. Like others I only ever used optimate on my motorbikes. Also, like others I use a ctek mxs 5.0 for the 981.

Unlike others I have it connected to the battery positive terminal and grounding point as per the 981 manual. I then open the frunk to connect it.

    That is lovely!

How big an issue is the absence of Bose? What is the standard hifi like?

From the research I did bose makes a notable difference. I like it in my cayman and liked it in my other Mazda equipped cars. I like music. It may not be the best but by all accounts better than the standard system as you would expect.

Thanks everyone for comments and replies…

im going to pass on that one for the moment…. Plenty other fish in the sea….. i think i would be happier with a Warranty at that (or > value)  - it is possibly something i could have achieved on that car, but it is a lot of extra work at arms length , as is arranging a PPI. I’m in no rush… so i can tee up the funds etc to be able to move quickly when the right one comes along

I’ll keep an eye on various sites  / OPC etc for a spec that works…

    Looking for an S… (718 or 981), <20Kish miles

    ideal spec would be

pref. red in colour , blue  or grey … silver white and yellow least favourite - (definitely not Black) -

Must have: PDK, Sports Chrono, Paddles, Bose, folding mirrors & Cruise, F&R park assist

nice to have: PASM, LSD,  LEDs, PSE

I would reconsider PSE. It sounds incredible and to retrofit it or buy an aftermarket option with valves is upwards of £2.5k.

There is no Cruise Control on it either… that is a must as well. So i think I’ll move on and keep looking.

Sadly it is a waiting game and jumping when the right spec car come up. Could be weeks or could be months. Know what are must haves and what can be sacrificed. Good luck with the search.

  9. I have had this on other cars and forgot all about it… until this morning!

I did take the car for a quick drive but clearly not long enough. Is there another way? Maybe a blower? Weather isn’t exactly always great after a clean so taking that car out would just get it dirty straight away!

Still cheaper that buying a lemon…

my MiL lives near Amersham, so i could stay over there…. So no hotel required…

it would just be so much easier without Covid risks on public transport…. The thought of flying or train at the moment is not appealing

Don’t disagree that’s why I would and did have a PPI undertaken then went to collect the car once I had the result of that inspection.

    That is the one. 😉

I noticed it had buttons vs paddles. Paddles would be a preference, but I could always retrofit for about £1k or add aftermarket for about £500

Tyres have reportedly been replaced 6months ago.

Was garaged in former life. Wouldn't be garaged going forward though  🙁

Check what tires are in it now. Have a chat as you can gain a lot of or lose confidence that way. Definitely have a PPI undertaken.

  12. Welcome. As long as the most recent service was at a porsche main dealer then you can have a 111 point inspection undertaken for roughly £215. Then add a warranty for roughly £700. If anything comes back as non Porsche you will need of replaced to have the warranty. The current owner could do as you suggest but it’s a bit of hassle for them to go through.

I went third party warranty myself with a company called Motoreasy for leave of mind.

I would not buy without a PPI either by porsche or a independent individual.

I would want to know it it’s been garaged too. One year of neglect can undo all the years of being treated properly.

I thought about the Boxster a few years ago, the 987 but I opted for the BMW Z4 at the time. I went through 4 of them including the excellent Z4M roadster and the E89 35is, an excellent tourer.  I then had started looking at the 981 which had been unaffordable to me earlier.  Test drove a ‘15 Boxster S and was totally blown away.  The quality of the interior, switches, solid thump of the doors!  My 35is felt like a Lada on the way home.
I pushed the boat out on a ‘14 GTS Boxster and everything you have said is true.  I’ve not really driven it even 200 miles as doing things over winter.  Spyder ducktail, paint refresh, paint correction and ceramic coating, ppf and center and side decals.  Then I’ll be finished.  Got it from an OPC and everything else is perfect!

There it is on collection day!

Looks lovely. Congratulations! I did apply the ‘Porsche’ side decals but took them off. Wasn’t a fan personally. I do want to get the ducktail at some stage and have joined the Porsche U.K. club so will leverage that discount when the time comes. Mine had 32k miles but that’s enough to chop the front to make PPF a waste of time at the moment. I am going to get the car correction detailed and have ceramic coating applied though. Look forward to more pics.
