Intermediate oil change

I had mine changed when the MOT was done.

Can't remember what I paid for it but it was convenient.

There was one year when I didn't get an interim oil change but as it is my daily driver I think that it is worth getting it done.

I only do 3-4k a year in my weekend cars so an annual change is just fine. Kwik Fit just did an oil & filter change, with an MOT for £95 all in. They used Fuchs supersyn 5w40 oil and I provided a new genuine sump washer that they used.

Saved me the hassle of doing or getting an oil change done, going to motor factors to buy oil and then disposing of the old stuff. That or paying a mechanic to do it and bin it. Which worked out the same price as just leaving it with Kwik Fit for the day to do it all conveniently.

Oil £45 (eBay), an MOT at my specialist £45.

I've always done annual oil changes, and on previous weekend cars, or every 3k whichever came first.

I find kwik fit are fine for oil changes in between services.

Explain up front that you want to check the level after they have done it and have a look under the car as well.. I also check the caps tightness before i go. These are the biggest risks really.

I found that , quite rightly, the young lads in there are not experts in all models of cars from every generation. The only criticism i have  is overfilling it. So explain the checks up front and they are always very helpful and willing to rectify anything on the spot.

Porsche are happy to warranty the cars with upto 20K between services, so they clearly don't see it as a big issue. Your car, your money, just seems like overkill to me. Do you shorten the other service intervals as well such as air filter, gearbox oil, brake fluid? Where do you get the oil for £40?

The trouble with that statement is that Porsche in line with other manufacturers only provide 3 year warranty.  So in effect they are not saying 20k miles is ok between services they are saying they don't expect it to cause a major issue in the first 3 years of the engines life.  Given many of the cars we are driving are significantly older than 3 years and many not under Porsche warranty then it doesn't hold that 20k miles is still ok for the rest of the engines expected life.
