Pierrick
Hi all, I had a bit af an accident last week (see other post). Nothing too serious (left back wheel and suspentions components) but the passenger door airbag has been deployed (i was alone in the car). I sourced a new airbag and there are plenty of door cards available on e-bay so I am not worried about that. I also have all the suspentions components. My problem is regarding the electronic bits and the airbag light... As I understant the things to watch for are: Side sensors (in the sills), seat belt pretensioners, main airbag sensor (ECU, under the dash) and airbag warning light on the dashboard. How do I know what needs to be replaced and how can I check/test the various part? I guess that if I go to a Porsche dealer the mechanic will tell me that he needs to replace this, this and this and then reset the light on the dashboard. But it will come with a high price tag! What I want to do is to replace everything and then get to the dealer or a specialist so he can clear the fault and reset the light. Hope you can help! Thanks. Richard Hamilton
As long as the airbag control unit hasn't been triggered 3 times in the past, all it should need is for the fault codes to be cleared, and you are good to go.
Pierrick
Ok, and that can be done with a durametric or I need to go to a dealer? I also read quite a few things about the seat belt pretensioners and most people seems to think that if the airbag has been deployed, the pretentioner has been fired and would need changing... Richard Hamilton
You should be able to do it with a Durametric. If you fancy a run down to Maidenhead, I would be happy to reset it with my PIWIS tester. The 2002 Service Technik shows the following:The pyrotechnic ball belt tensioner is combined with the belt-force limiter in one unit. The threshold value for triggering the pyrotechnic belt tensioner is calculated as for the airbag actuation from the sensor signals for vehicle deceleration. The triggering of the belt tensioner during a frontal collision takes place together with the triggering of the front airbags. During a rear collision only the belt tensioner is triggered. Hopefully, you should be OK, as only the side airbag was deployed.
Pierrick
Hi Richard. Thank you very much... I read a lot of things on different forum and I was starting to get worried... If everything goes well, the car will be back on 4 wheels tomorrow and then I will start to get the door card out, change the airbag, maybe check the seat belts if it is not complicated. And yes I am interested by your offer to reset the airbag light. I have some family in Guildford so that would be ideal when I drive down. It will probably be soon on a Saturday, I will keep you updated. Cheers.

Pierrick
I went to a local porsche specialist today. They reset the airbag light. Everything is back to normal. Thanks all for your help.
