Wheel compatibility

The wheel fitment will be excellent as the offsets closely match. The only thing to watch out for is tyres. The 981 18 inch wheels come with 45 profile tyres which will be too big (too tall overall) for a 987.

If you just use the wheels though, you are good to go. The 981 OEM 18" alloys are:

Front Wheels: 8Jx18 ET57
Rear Wheels: 9.5Jx18 ET47

They hold 235 and 265 tyres respectively.

The fronts are 7mm further in on the offset.  they will fit but you may want to consider some 5 or7mm spacers and longer bolts. To benefit from handling and cosmetic looks.

The rears will fit and fill nicely.

Tyres are not just wider but taller percentage too. 981 are 235/45.  Molly had 235/40 and were perfectly fine.

Rears 265/45  Molly had 275/35 on a 10" rim.  Thus non "N" rated but more comfortable and nothing larger would fit due to suspension.

www.willtheyfit.com Is a great site to explain such changes.  There are so many variations, you just couldn't put together an ultimate list.

I think the OP is after fitting 981 18" wheels to a 987.

By comparing the OEM 18s on the 981 to the OEM 18s on the 987.1 it would appear that the front offset and width is the same (ET57 8J).

The 18s rears on the 981 are actually 1/2 inch wider and stick out 4mm further. This would quite possibly be fine on a 987.

This only applies to OEM wheels of course. The wheel sizes grew each generation also. The 986 went up to 18s on the S models, the 987 introduced 19s, and the 981 introduced 20s.

Some people say that the sweet spot for each generation is 1 inch lower than this though. As Patt says, wheel swaps are rarely just fit and forget, it's a project in itself to decide what to swap and how well it will fit work.
