quick question found a car for the right budget,  spec not as great as the previous one but still good.   its red which is a massive plus for me.

23,155 miles

2014 model (manual) 2.7

Guards red with black hood and interior.

  • 19” Boxster S alloys
  • Sports seats
  • Heated seats
  • ParkAssist (front & rear)
  • Electric folding exterior mirrors
  • Porsche CDR-31 CD radio with Universal Multimedia Interface  so no NAV

First registered on 31st October 2013, supplied by OPC Cardiff.

Full service history. 2 keys, book pack, service book and manuals.

its just had Front discs and pads,  exhaust bolts changed, brake pipes cleaned.

they have it up for £26,490

Its due a minor service octover this year which he said was about £300-400

My main problem is its 5 hours away and i dont mnd driving that way to pick a car up its driving that way to view the car.  the Dealership seems a decent guy, usual story though i wouldnt let a car go from here without being 100% etc, he did sya i will put it on a ramp so you can see underneth etc, comes with 6month warranty.

Anything i can ask before going to visit,   I could drive there for the weekend stay over do somethign with the kids etc make a day of it but the missus doesnt fancy the drive home on her own and well i do (especially if i buy the car :) )

What happens if a a fault develops that isn't covered by the warranty, but is the dealer's responsibility under consumer legislation. Can you take it to a local garage with the dealer paying? Will they pay the hourly rate of your local Porsche specialist, same with the 6 month warranty, many have ridiculously low hourly rate limits. Always more risky buying at a distance if something goes wrong.

A minor service may be £300-400, but at six years old, I have a feeling that lots of other stuff may need doing such as poly belt, brake fluid, air filter, possibly spark plugs, could easily reach £1k. Best to check what's due before agreeing a price.

Pre purchase inspection? That’s increasingly common.

Mine was further ;)

I asked about this and he said we are actually the company that do the pre -inspections down this way,   so pretty much a waste of £350 althoguh i could find another company im sure.

thanks,  yes i know what your saying i disucss it and if it was something simple hes saying he would try to find a resolution locally however they all say this when they want your money,  so im dubious and he did say if it was something like a window motor then it would have to come back.

Have you looked around to try to judge the reputation of the dealer?

Mine was a thousand miles away, but a nearby indie said "I've never heard of any problems from that seller" so I took a chance - seems to have been OK (for 10 years!).

I find it quite a limited spec, but that's your choice.

i havent to be honest, he said himself that they have a very good reputation and he wouldnt let a car out of he unless it was right.    YEah i agree with you on spec, probably why the price point is where it is for a 981.

A quick Google search of 'plymouth porsche' says Williams Crawford.

yeah i wasnt going to post it up until i was sure about the car, will teach me in future just to mention no places.   I've talked myself out of the car now, so its good if anyone else wants to snap it up.

Anyone heard of williams crawford?

This looked a fairly basic spec, but mileage was ok for the price. My car has 22k miles and ,the front discs and pads are under 50% worn so someone was going some to replace in 20k.

As stated above, it’s worth looking at what maintenance is due at various points as 4 years is a Major Service (plus spark plugs, brake fluid etc). 6 years is minor service + polyrib belt, air filters, brake fluid etc.   So most of the cars you are looking at will be somewhere in this area and may have some of this work imminent.

Williams Crawford seems to have a good reputation. I have read of people buying cars unseen and having then delivered to them without ever a test drive.

Not sure there's much to see. Even the blokey thing of staring at oily bits under the bonnet and sucking air through your teeth is denied to Boxster buyers! I've had an MOT inspector put an advisory "under trays fitted" as he said it prevented him carrying out a proper inspection!

Good luck with the search Rob. Collected mine home today and about to head out to a pub garden for sundowner in it!

lol, glad all ok with it, i was going to send you a PM as i remembered that it was today but figured you would be out burning the tyres.  difficult choice pub garden or going for a drive in your new porsche.

Williams Crawford are a very reputable specialist, and they have history with this car so know it, generally the warranties offered aren’t tied to their workshop.

Why not drive down and check it over then get them to deliver it, if you like it.

Plenty of family things to do in the area.

thats good to here,  tbh i think ive talked myself out of it based on the spec etc, originally that was a plan but missus didnt fancy driving back so thought i would train it down and drive the car back which is why i wanted to be sure of the car before i go that distance. Ive realised when buying cars in the past my definition of 'mint' is not the same as everyone elses especially sellers. I can sort out most paint issues its mechanical which i have no idea.

I generally always travel to get the exact car I want, I've always had good experiences by going over expectations in great detail on the phone and on email, if i don't get the response in the way I expect I move on but generally I've always found that sellers who put the effort in to deal with me are usually true to their word.  If anything is not as expected we agree on a new price to cover the cost of whatever it is.
