Dashboard rattle 981s 2012

Hi,

I have a cracking 981s 2012. There is a really annoying little rattle from the dashboard vents, drives me nuts. The car is in great shape, still tight and drives great but this is really irritating. I'm not mechanically minded so its not an option for me to start mucking around dismantling things but equally I don't want to start an expensive exercise at a Porsche specialist or dealership.

Can I ask if anyone else had the same issue and if so how did they fix it?

Many thanks

Have you narrowed down which vent it is coming from ?

Can you reproduce the noise ?

Is the noise apparent with the car stationary or only in motion ?

Cabin sounds can be tricky to locate (ask me how I know)

Thanks for the responses.  The rattle is from each of the vents, passenger and driver on the dash and only when driving. I will have a look at Ricks fix, if you have any further ideas Iborguk will follow them up. Will let you know if Ricks fix works.

Cheers

If it is only when driving I’d suggest getting a passenger to zero in on where it’s coming from. Again sound can bounce around.

I had all the frunk plastic out and it turned out to the the steering wheel airbag surround on mine. It was making a noise like a Geiger counter.

Thanks yes thats the sounds, Geiger counter. From the replies looks like I've got a lot of plastic to fiddle around with!

Yours could be a completely different source , so again would suggest two sets of ears on it when driving...

Well eventually I found the reason, so here it is in case anyone else has this problem.

I had a loose wheel bearing on the drivers front wheel. I only found it when I had the wheel re-sprayed as I kerbed it, the garage noticed there was a slight movement on the wheel. Wheel bearing replaced, no dashboard rattle. Must of been vibration running through the the car. Seems obvious when you know!
