986 2.7 2000 - Which Coolant/Antifreeze please?

Hi I noticed the coolant level was below minimum.

Figured I'd head out and get some to top it up, I popped the reg into eurocar parts and a few "compatible" options popped up,

just wondering if it's ok to use these general brands like Triple QX red?

I can see through the reservoir window that the existing coolant is a pinkish colour.

specs here state Triple QX is phosphate free, so reckon this is safe for a 2000 boxster 2.7?

What ya'll using out there?

Cheers muchly.

I was at my Indy for a service a few weeks back and he had a 25 litre container with Triple QX red he said that is what he puts in all the M96 engine cars so I would think you are safe enough using it and you can get it for a good price from carparts4less

If you are losing coolant, check for leaks on both ends of the rubber hoses that connect the feed and return pipes to the rads in the front wheel arches / front subframe.  The spring clips on these can fracture and reduce the clamping effect they have.  Either remove the pipes and replace the clips, or as a quick fix add a jubilee clip right next to the spring clamp on the side away from the end of the hose, this way you will clamp down on to the swage on the end of the metal pipe.  This will work as a fix until you have to drain the system for something else.  20 litres is a lot of coolant!

When I had my 996 checked over, the garage said that the antifreeze was the wrong colour. Its strength was fine, so I left it.
Its important to not mix antifreeze and when I had my water pump changed this week, I had the system fully fleshed and put the one mentioned back in.

I’ve got a weep on the “engine end” of the N/S hose; it’s getting undone shortly for a water pump change, is this just a case of clean up & refit, or new hoses?

mine look like they are already jubilee clips...

If there's already a  jubilee on there it could be time for a new hose, or someone change the whole car to jubilees at some point in the past.  If the system is being drained for the water pump it is definitely a good time to get it all checked over and completely filled with fresh coolant.

I’ve recently changed my coolant tank and I used Comma Xstream.

Their data sheet states it’s suitable for Porsches 1996-2009

Is Triple QX G13 OK to use in the boxster?

https://boothtowncarparts.co.uk/shop/ols/products/triple-qx-5l-antifreeze-summer-coolant-purple-concentrated-long-life-g13/v/TRP-QX-5L-NTF-20-LTR

I use it in the Skoda (should be G12) and I am just going to use it in the Audi (should be G13 anyway).

I want to flush out the Boxster and use the same if possible.

Thoughts?

Cheers

Whatever it is make sure you've got enough capacity to catch 18 litres, and the same amount mixed up to refill if you empty it completely.  Also they can take a few attempts to bleed, if you can park it sightly nose down to help with this.
