Roksi
Hello fellow enthusiasts. Does anyone have experience with this tyre? I'm aiming to utilise them on twisties, roadtrips and trackdays, so mostly spirited driving. https://www.tyrereviews.com/Tyre/Goodyear/Eagle-F1-SuperSport.htm What's the optimal operating temperature? What hot pressure to aim for on track?I bought a F235/35/19 and R265/35/19 set which I will install after I manage to wear out my 10 year old Potenza RE050As... which have probably hardened since they barely show any wear from 3 track day events. No cracks or visible issues though, and they still manage to grip. Of course, I'm expecting the F1SS to be quite a step up in that area.I am running a 2010 987.2 Boxster S and going on every track event I can find. The Potenzas gain nearly 1 bar of pressure after 5 or so laps on the track and become very slippery, so I bleed them based on feel and guessing. Knowledge of the optimal operating temperature would be very useful.
edc
What about using a temp gun? I would bleed off the pressure until you have something that resembles normal and measure the temp inner, middle and outer to readjust your pressure. brillomaster
no experience myself, though i do hear they are supposed to be quite good... let us know what feedback you have! Also, if you're a regular track driver, be sure to say hello on this thread, always nice to know who else tracks their porsches.
Roksi
I have been thinking about getting one of those, but I figured I need a reference to do anything with the acquired data. Of course I could just build the data table out myself and based on feel, but I'd prefer a more experienced opinion. I've also been looking into IR TPMS systems that would pass me real time data of the tyre surface temperature. I still need to research this a bit more and ask around, but I love the idea. However, this is all a bit outside of the context of tyre's optimal operation temperature range. Each tyre design has its own based on the materials and setup. This could be a thing I only thought about because of driving simulators and maybe it applies mostly to motorsport slicks and less so for UUHP road tyres, so maybe I'm just making a fuss as a newbie. I cannot find similar data easily even for Michelin PS4S which is used universally. This Michelin bulletin for the Cup 2 R is the only one I've found so far that gives 90C as optimal temperature, 70-100 as the window and advises 2.5 bar. This site quotes 7-70 degrees of operating range to a generic road tyre and 80-100 for a track tyre (Michelin PS Cup). Very hard to say where the EF1SS would fall within those ranges. The expectations for the EF1SS are indeed quite up there. Tyre Reviews videos hyped me up for the steering feel especially, I dont care too much about the ultimate laptime compared to the consistency and feel. I very much hope they stack up! Tyreman
I don't think that they will disappoint, it seems very much that if you are looking for a UUHP product there are only two in the frame 👍
Lennym1984
The new Bridgestone potenza sport tyres are getting good reviews. That's what I plan to try next
Toeside
The Good years are very good cannot fault them As for temps/pressures. Try and maintain the normal road press when the tyres are track hot. So warm tyres up until the get slippery or complain by howling' return to pits . Measure PSI and drop press to match normal road pressures Just a rule of thumb. Apply a certain level of common sense and build up some track experience bases on track temperature etc. Monitor that the side walls are holding up and there are is no signs of them "rolling over" (scrub marks). Road tyres/Good years are not specifically track tyres so the sidewalls will not hold up to dropping a massive amount of pressure. Also Ask other people in the pits what are they running with similar spec cars, some people with more experience can be very helpful. But they'll be my next choice especially as they do them in a huge range of sizes.

To update this in case anyone else is thinking about tyres for road and light track use..... Don't go for the Bridgestone Potenza Sport. They're decent road tyres but can't cope with track work at all.
