Dosthilldave
Car has 7 year old Pirelli P Zero fitted that are cracking up and hard, so time for some new rubber. Pretty much settled on pilot sport 4. Current tyres are 265/35/18 rear and 235/40/18 front. Is it correct for lower profile on the rear? Everything I read suggests should be 40 profile front and rear, but tyre firms seem happy that the rear is only 35 and suggest I replace like with like, retaining the difference. I feel their advice is a little generic, so what do the experts recommend!
BBB
The manual recommends 40 profile for both front and rear for an 18 diameter wheel and 35 for 19s. Strangely though it shows 55 for front and 50 for rear on a 17 wheel. 17 205/55 front and 235/50 rear 18 235/40 and 265/40 19 235/35 265/35 Edited March 17, 2022 by BBB corrected 17 inch details

Ninesomething
Theoretically you would get a slightly smoother ride on a 40 rather than a 35 but whether anyone would notice the difference IDK. Far more improvement just by fitting the new rubber.
Dosthilldave
@JonSta I tend to agree, new rubber and slight increase in profile might improve the ride a little. It’s a tad bumpy on our lovely UK roads, which I partly put down to very hard tyres.
edc
265/35/18 is a 986 size.
BrianJ
Aren't the original sizes listed on the plate on the driver's door shut?

Dosthilldave
@BrianJ yes, drivers door shut plate does show 40 profile front and rear for 18” wheels, that’s just the confirmation I needed. Many thanks all, now clear.
