Clamshell Not Closing Fully

When opening my roof, it works normally, fully retracting the roof with the mechanism stopping when it thinks it is fully down, but the back of the clamshell is left sitting about 1/2" proud of the boot lid both sides. A short way up the road and it settles down flush with the boot lid. Closing the roof, all works perfectly.

I did replace the plastic sockets after they broke last year but it was doing this before.

Not a big problem, I know but is this normal? Is there anything I can adjust? I have searched but can't find a solution.

Yes. Exactly my problem! Mine settles a few miles down the road too. Everything seems intact and operating as it should but the clamshell stops 1/2 inch proud when the top is first operated. I intend taking to a roof specialist in Birmingham for them to take a look but haven’t managed to fit it in yet. I’ve used them in the past and found them very good - The Hood Guys.

I will report back once I’ve managed to get it to them but would be interested to hear if others have had this problem and managed to rectify.

I've had a good read, a look and a try and it appears to be the roof not sitting right down straight away. Prodded various bits of the roof but can't find out what is making it do this. The apron and clips are ok and the back rail seems to be dropping all the way down and the roof folding correctly. No Bose pod to get in the way either.

Still, adjusted the elastic I fitted last year while playing in there so the hood pulls behind the drivers side door rail on its own again.

Then took the Stag out for a waft around the countryside in the sun.

Maybe just try lubricating all of the mechanism, especially the rails in the top of the inside of the rear wings, in case they are just a bit sticky at the end of the roof travel?

No this isn’t normal.

Check the pushrods themselves are straight (the metal bits on which you replaced the plastic ball cups).

It's most likely an issue with the clamshell rail and slide mechanism. Check that the slide moves freely in the rail and that the arm is fully pressed into the slide (it should pop in). While you are at it, you can relubricate the slide.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Slides were well re-lubricated last year, running nice and smooth, no juddering. I think I'll remove the carpet first to see if that makes any difference and if it doesn't, pop off the ball joints to see if the hood settles any lower when it isn't connected to the drive, which could indicate the plastic sockets need adjusting. I was careful to fit the new sockets in the same position as the old ones last year, but the clamshell was the same with the old ones.
