Triops
My 2001 Boxter S has the “00” coolant cap. I have no coolant issues. Should I replace with an “04” cap regardless. If so what’s the issue with the early cap? i’ve heard they are unreliable on various sites what’s your view please Thanks

Menoporsche
Interesting, I think most problems are reported with 01 caps, but never knew 00 existed. So they worsened the IMS AND the coolant cap? Way to go Porsche...
Loc986
I replaced my coolant cap to 04 in the hope it would stop the moisture collecting immediately above. Unfortunately that didn’t work but replacing the coolant bleed valve top section did.
RalphyBMW
If you don’t have an issue, then don’t worry for now. I was getting condensation above the fillers & dipstick and this fixed it for me. In terms of availability, speak to your local OPC’s parts desk; they are often cheaper than the independent suppliers for genuine parts. Paul P
I replaced the 987.2 coolant cap because there was some “ chalking” on the threads of the old one. Likely was just the oring getting tired and that is available as a separate part but a replacement was only about £13 from OPC so I swapped it as a pre-emotive thing before a decent European trip.

Guy Wilkinson
Just a warning re Metzger expansion tanks. The threads are weak and easy to cross thread. I fitted one and it failed within 500 miles. replaced with a genuine porsche one and all well. The porsche tank has a new bleed valve already fitted 1
