Stujoed
Need a new battery for my 987.1 2.7L. Was not holding charge and had it tested by my trusty independent mechanic who says it’s knackered. Any recommendations? Only use it once a week/fortnight but does sit on a trickle charge in garage. thanks
½cwt
Bosch (S4 or S5), Yassa (5000 series) or Banner seem to be the most common recommendations. www.tayna.co.uk are noted as being very competitive.
Stujoed
Thanks, presume better to go for a higher cca as engine takes a fair bit of power/energy to initially turn over??
Drrncour
I went fit the YUASA HSB110 Silver 12V Car Battery 5 Year Guarantee from Halfords same engine and Model. Seems good to me 👍

Yes, you can go from a 096 to a 110 type (moves one bolt hole on the fixings base) to get a higher CCA. Check different places and the daily changing discounts. CP4L can be competitive as can Halfords and both can be more convenient than deliveries. Guarantees are largely not worth the worry once you read the small print of the exclusions as it is materials and workmanship usually, not chemical performance. Batteries typically fail due to sulfation which is chemical...

Stujoed
Thanks everyone. Managed to get an Exide premium delivered for under £90 when same battery was circa £150 at some of the bigger names retailers. From here: https://www.mlperformance.co.uk/products/exide-premium-110-car-battery-85ah-5-year-guarantee thought might be helpful for others to check these guys out if they find this thread in the future when they are searching for a new battery.
