Gramps
Hi All. Has anyone out there refurbed their gearknob handbrake and gaiter? My handbrake has a few "nail/ring" chips out of it and the leather gaiter doesn't look as "supple" as it may have once done so was looking at getting all 3 refurbed, maybe in alcantara? Anyone got any advice of best options and where/cost. TIA Gramps
Ninesomething
I bought the gaiter and handbrake cover off eBay and they were cr*p so I sent them back. There's another guy on eBay who does them to order - if you want the handbrake cover doing you have to send him your handbrake. Or you can get them done by Royal - IIRC they quoted me around £120 which I thought was pricey considering that a steering wheel is only £200. On the subject of the knob I got a 917 style wooden one which I love - https://www.BoXa.net/topic/98985-console-finished/
½cwt
Royal Steering Wheels do these bits as well as steering wheels. They'd do OE match or a custom job if you want to individualise. 944GS
I had my steering wheel done by Royal Steering Wheels nearly 2 years ago and it’s still in perfect condition so can recommend them.
Gramps
Had a punt on this guy on Ebay, JW Auto Trim, eBay item number : 275028419106. £150 for gearknob + gaiter, and both handbrake sections. Very happy with the result. https://flic.kr/p/2pCsfbq https://flic.kr/p/2pCsfbF https://flic.kr/p/2pCtVjr https://flic.kr/p/2pCtmvp https://flic.kr/p/2pCsfcc

Lonewolfgjp
That looks great 👌 Next it will be the wheel and the armrest to match 😂 it’s a slippery slope believe me 😎👍

No the body coloured centre console was an option from new, as the roll bars are. Hence I had the alcatara bits done with the white stitching to match. 🙂

Only had the handbrake done due to the "nail chips" in it, then I had visions of the leather gaiter becoming brittle and cracking over time so I thought I'd get that replaced, which meant the gearknob and rear of the handbrake had to follow suit. Weirdly my left hand, which for the majority of the time rests on the gearknob, doesn't seem to get as cold with the alcantara as it did with the leather?? Did you keep your sidepods in the end? Lonewolfgjp
No I sold the side pods and just grilled the original ones. Ive been adding the Alcantara lower dash and I even ended up changing the steering wheel (again) fourth wheel in this car😂 with wheel number 3 And wheel number 4😎 The Alcantara is definitely warmer than the leather and I think it feels great on the steering wheels 👌
Hainesy
Just trying to decide whether to go with JW or Royal - they're both similar price. Am going to go whole hog and do wheel, gearknob, gaiter and the door grab handles. How hard is it to get the handbrake assembly off?
