Did you use the black plastic acoustic boxes from the OE installation?

From what I recall, yes. I know you can create a custom baffle but I don't think I did that.

Glad you've come up with 13cm/5¼", thought I was going mad.  I could be the PCD of the fixing points that 6½".

Pioneer TS-G1331i were fitted to the doors along with Alpine SXE-0825S in the rear storage top box and Pioneer TS-G1031i in the dash.  I added 4ohm ballast resistors to the dash and door speakers and connected them to the head unit as front speakers, the Alpines as rear.  This way both speaker sets present the same resistance to each of the channels on the head unit.

I'm half tempted to pull my door apart. I could've sworn I fitted 6.5 albeit 12 or more years back.

I spotted them. He is selling nothing else. So I'm assuming he bought them and decided not to use them. Or maybe you and he are the same person?

I see you spotted some clues, Hercule 😂

Searching on ebay for [318 Porsche] I found a full set of discs and pads front for 71.99 only!

Their marketing pics look pretty good too.

How bad can cheap brakes really be?

Someone needs to try them. Maybe if I had my own YouTube channel I might do it.

You could just get a pair of pagid disks brand new on eBay for a 986 from this guy:

He's got fantastic feedback and is probably an all round top guy. Looks likes he's got just one pair left so be quick. 😂

Yeah the later ones are with the 9 pin which is what my car will need and thats the same as the mk1 TT's. The advice is to take your part out of the car and then make sure you buy the right one after inspection.

Yes I'd agree with that advice or you could buy both and return the unused one I suppose if it's time critical. I've done this change myself twice and it's very easy to do, took an hour the second time around.

  7. I seem to recall there are two different door locks in use one with an eight pin and the other with nine pin. I think it depends on age as to which is relevant to your car earlier cars having the earlier part. They share parts with golf mk4 and mk5 the latter being the nine pin version.

My car was the eight pin being a 1999 I don't think there's a clear cut off date probably simply  switched over when they ran out in the factory.

I've had the car over 3 years and its just started to do it now so wondering what's changed.

Ime it's a microswitch on the lock that sticks due to lack of use. Can't recall which one but it makes the alarm module think the door isn't locked.

The passenger side window doesn't drop when the door handle is activated so i know its had a micro switch issue since i got it to be fair. I've always lowered the windows on unlock from the key when i have a passenger getting in and the reverse when they have got out when locking and arming it.

I will get to it at 'some point' :D

With regards to paying to get the codes read, id rather just buy the tool myself and do it to future proof me. I've made back the monies on the ICarsoft already and i could sell it on for the price i paid for it used and upgrade to the next code reader.

I'd suggest the passenger side door lock is a very likely culprit then.

    Hi all

any idea how to turn on the door speakers in my 986s 2004

I currently have the PCM2 radio with fibre connection to the amp in the frunk

The door speakers are definaly wired up as i have replaced one of the doors and checked whilst rebuilding the door

speakers in the dash work ok but on the readio i can ony find fader for left and right not front and back

I am repalcing the radio with a Pioneer touch screen with a harness conversion tomorrow but would love both sets of speakers to work

    Thanks

    Rob

They are low frequency speakers so you may find they are actually working it's just quite hard to tell. Dash are tweeters.

Because software has no moving parts would be my counter.

     🙄

It's does you just don't see them in the same way. Software is built to run on hardware. Hardware can deteriorate over time and the result can be different inputs - perhaps ones the programmer never catered for. Parts can be replaced by other almost but not quite identical replacements.  Assumptions made in good faith can over time be found to be incorrect y2k is a good example of that.

Was a nice little earner back in the day supporting clients through y2k and then following year through the euro conversion.  Those two new years earnt me the deposit on my first flat. ✌️

No never saw any y2k bugs actually cause any issues either in the field.

We need a @Richard Hamilton to help us with this. This clock issue appears to affect cars worldwide. Poor show by Porsche in not looking at keeping these things running correctly past a certain timeframe. It really should be an integral part of developing software for the PCM where you go through all scenarios that are inevitable. 😡

There's 2 limitations in play when it comes to software.

    1. The software designers/developers capacity to come up with the full range of scenarios

    2. The cost of testing all such scenarios and producing solutions for them all.

Ultimately like everything software is built down to a budget.  We don't expect mechanical components to last a lifetime so why do we think software should?

Whatever the insurer, you need to specifically check whether they cover drivers without a UK driving licence if that is the situation with your Barbadian visitor. Most will not. It will be in their T’s and C’s or details of the additional driver questions which most people don’t read. I have a relative who happily drove around uninsured for several visits unaware of this. They now hire a car because they couldn’t find any other way of getting insurance.

I didn't have any problem with LV or admiral as long as the driver had an IDL but their policies could have changed recently.

  14. I hauled the 986 out of the garage for the first time in a year and it took me over an hour to get it down the the local BP, get some fresh fuel in and inflate the tyres. Four separate people wanted a natter about the car. Two of my builders and two randoms at the BP. Ironically it was filthy - covered in dust and cat paw prints from the garage - and yet several remarked on how tidy is was.

Anyway it's now in being serviced and mot'd so if the weather turns next week you can blame me.
