Just a thought; whilst I was in there I noticed the handbrake shoes look a little worn and decided to get a new set and update that too (job for this coming weekend). Would low handbrake shoes increase the likelihood of contact with the backing plate?  I wouldn't have thought so but I'm grasping at anything to make it go away.

I can't see how but anythings possible with these cars.!  Good luck  😀

My local non Porsche garage will happily fit any junk I bring them. Local German car/Porsche Indy offered to fit my tuning forks no probs. It might depend on the part and where you get it. I wouldn't have thought branded parts should be an issue

Apparently the issue is the garage still has to warranty the parts even if the customer supplies them.

@dunks posted about this I think some time ago.

Because I prefer to not have too wide a tyre. Now I am running 235 rear like the 987 I think sticking with 205 front is the right balance.

It may well be the case that I move the 235 the the front and put 265.40.17 on the rear and it feel really nicely balanced. That would give me a perfect rolling radius front to rear and shed loads of grip, but not sure it would feel anywhere near as fun.

Mind you, some of the 18" 987 wheels ran 235 front and 265 rear, so it would be fine to do so. Be an interesting test. If I could afford to play around I would have a go.

I think I mentioned it on your thread when you were asking about dropping from the 255/40 to 235/45 on the rear, that I'm running the same rears with 225/45 up front.

I've not found any downsides with this combo.

    Just a thought :)

205/50/17 is the OE size...? even on 7J rms.

    Yeah.

225 is a bit much for a 6.5J but fine on a 7J hence the question.

    I agree with that.

Even tyres like the Kumho KU39, which could be had for around £50 a corner, is a superb tyre and the PS4 certainly isn't twice as good as the price suggests.

And I have found some Continentals and Bridgestones awful even though they are some of the most expensive.

I had some Conti Sport Contacts get really noisy after less than a year and 5k miles.
Tyres were almost 2 years old from dot code.
When I looked at them properly they were all cracked between the treads.
I spoke to Continental and they actually picked one up to evaluate them.

The came back and said that I had left them out in the sun too much.    ?????

It seemed a few people had the same problem, albeit a bit longer than 2 years old. But put me off Contis going forward.

I had KU39 on the rear of the box for a while. Good tyre.

Any chance you can slip 70 quid into my Xmas stocking, so I can buy some PS4 🤣

That answers my earlier question - I'm looking in the wrong place for Michelins. :thumbsup_still:

Sorry, I should have said that was Kwikfit/Blackcircles

No, you are being a reverse snob. ;)

You seem to be having a dig because I really like PS4 and PS4S tyres. They tend to be winning a hell of a lot of fans too, there is a reason for that.

I'm not really having a dig at all.

Guess what I've got on the front of my car. :)

All im saying is that cheap tyres won't necessarily make your Boxster fall off the road, and might well offer the majority of the PS4 performance at a much lower cost if you find a good one.

By the same token, fitting a well regarded branded tyre won't necessarily be any better then a not so well known brand at a lower price.

:o   I was looking at fronts last night (235/40-18) and they were around £75 each compared to £175 each for PS4, from Camskill.

Either I'm looking in the wrong place for Michelins or you are, for Uniroyals.

    I want 235/45/17

Surly it’s not totally down to tyre snobbery. Some boxster 986 owners have bought their cars because they like the 986 not because they are cheap. So if you can afford to put decent tyres on then surly it’s their own choice regardless of his or hers driving ability.

    Sure.

If we could all afford it then I expect most people would fit Michelin Pilot Sport 2/4 N rated or whatever, but someone who dismisses a tyre without having even tried it on the basis that it is made in China, cheap, a brand they have never heard of etc, etc, etc is a tyre snob in my book.

    I'm just a tight bastard :)

I feel a similar way.  I inherited my Boxster 2 years ago with Accelera Ph1 cheap tyres on which having read the forum, people call ditch finders.

Personally as long as I have 4 matched tyres with decent tread depth I don’t care what they are and in reality drive to my limits and not the tyres. I am also sure that the car like a dog will bite if provoked too far and self preservation rules.

Happy days and happy Covid free Xmas to all

Your not the first person to post on here running Accelera PHI that is perfectly happy with them.

    Tyres eh :)
