Was hoping to get some tyres fitted this morning, but they are appointment only atm, so booked in for Monday.

with what?
The first time I used soapy water as was pretty filthy, but then just a wipe down with a cloth and some Aerospace 303 protectant as I had this to hand, but you can use what ever you fancy.
This will give you an idea :

Re the engine, it was pretty filthy. What’s the best solution to cleaning it, or should I just leave it as is?
Up to you. I give mine a quick clean down when I'm in there, but not done it for a year or two now.

Took the battery off to charge it. Fitted 10/17 so done pretty well considering the amount of short trips the car does

@ATM I ran 987 tyres for a while on my 986 when lowered 30mm and no rubbing issues.

ISTR horn fails as it collects water; mount the new one at a different angle.
They are both angled towards the ground, the bottom one more so.
Could well be splashing from the ground that contributes to failure... don't recall there being much room for adjustment though.

Put mine through its MOT , which it passed thankfully , although got an advisory on the brake pipes being a bit crusty , at 19 years old i suppose I can't complain about that too much ?
Very common, even on much younger cars. While I wouldnt say ignore, some testers can often be a bit ott about them.

Look under the seal which runs along the bottom of the door.
They are quite small, so easy to miss.
-
Don't know if the 987 is the same, but on the 986 there are two slots under the door seal where the water drains out.

Interesting. Been mentioned many times over the years, but on my 986 it just drips to the outside of the lip on the sill, so no wet floor carpet.

Anyhow when I bought them and was fully aware of the size issue and @Patt will tell you I even had a print out check sheet for the sizes showing the difference.
Cool. Didn't want you to be disappointed

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the 35 to 45 just add 10mm to each radius and hence adding 20mm to the diameter? This is tyre size we're talking.
No.The 35/45 is the aspect ratio, so the figure is the % of the tyres width.
Use this to get some numbers.

Stock is 318mm rolling radius and these are about 352mm so just over 10%
My apologies if my maths is wrong, but are you sure ?
255/40/17 is 636 mm diameter and 275/45/18 is 705 mm which is a 69mm difference so a sidewall height increase of 34.5 mm
Thats double what your suggesting.....

Bought a gorgeous set of 18" 996 GT3 style alloys 😍 from @Patt this evening mounted with part worn winter tyres, not quite 986 profile and widths but near enough for one season's use 😁. Can't wait to fit them over the weekend as well as running away from the wife and the inevitable subsequent crucifixion😬.
Wasn't planning on buying rims but as I happened to be working and staying near by and the price was reasonable, I couldn't resits blowing a big chunk of the winter work budget.
Will post pics once on the car.
You do realise the rear tyres are nearly 70mm greater in diameter then stock.?
-
Have you watched any YouTube vids.? I seem to remember there is a vid of a guy swapping his on a 986 in 30 seconds or something, but I couldn't get mine on using this method.
Sorry to sound so vague, but try changing what pully you put the belt on last if you haven't already.

They are tight. I gave up and had a cuppa before finally getting the bugger on.!
-
Chopped up a lovely shower curtain and used it as an additional membrane for the drivers door to hopefully cure my wet door card.
Fitted the bonnet struts that I've had here for ages as fed up with the thing banging my head.!

Nothing, but took my mum to the Doctors in it.
Considering she can't even remember what day it is, I was quite surprised when she commented on the ride being less harsh then last time she travelled in the car.
Was on H&R lowering springs back then so she was right..... bless her

I'll need to double check tomorrow. I just noticed that the four bits I fitted were missing.
Thanks. I've never really got my head round to what exactly should be fitted here.....

Yes, there seems to be less lift in the steering and the car seemed more planted.
Are these bits in addition to what's on the bottom of the wheel arch liner?
Previous owner had an argument with a badger, so the offside wheel arch liner has the bottom bit missing, though I think the other side isn't complete either.?
What have YOU done to your 986 today ?
