Maybe to some I guess it's the logic behind that I'm missing.

They are an aesthetic upgrade, a square set up doesn’t give you the same wheel fitment front to back.

  2. Quick question for the informed collective 😀

Previously had 7mm/15mm spacers on my 987 which looked fantastic, same spec work with the 981?

Looking at Bimecc which seem to get really good reviews and competitively priced, had H&R Trak+ previously but they are on back order and twice the price.

Welcome some input from experience of fitting them.

    Thanks 🤙

Interesting. As a 981 GTS owner with an order placed for a 4.0, I took the same view. Having a play with the 981 at Millbrook on Sunday reminded me of what a superb car it is and three of the 911 owners who attended commented on how great the sound was on the GTS. It’s almost made me reconsider the 4.0.  Almost but not quite.

Why would you forsake your BGTS for a 4.0?

I would on the basis I can modify the exhaust as per my previous post. I had an extended test drive in a 4.0 and it was utterly superb. It’s an improvement everywhere on the 981 with the exception of the exhaust sound.

They get good reviews, so now we are in 2022 I’d hope the main fault with them was that they’re five years old.

I think the sidewalls on the GY are a bit softer than the PS4S which for me was too much of a compromise.

Ordered 4 new Michelin PS4S from Blackcircles as they had a 15% discount. Full set of N0 rated 20” tyres for £812 delivered - result. Just need to decide what colour I’m having the wheels refurbed.

Had new PS4S fitted over weekend, wow what a transformation they’ve made to the car.

For context They have replaced N0 GY F1A which were around 2-3mm rear and 4-5mm front with a 2017 date stamp.

The turn in is massively improved, the whole car feels more planted and responsive with great amounts of grip. Money well spent, recommended 👍

  6. I had a 4.0 GTS on order prior to buying my 981 GTS.  As others confirmed the 981 blows the 718 4.0 out the water for sound there’s just no comparison, but that 4.0 engine is an absolute peach and has a much wider torque band which makes for a faster car when not ringing it out through the whole rev range.

I am hoping to upgrade to a 4.0 next year on the understanding I’ll need to do the OAP’s at the very least with a valve controller.

  7. Apologies, OPF acronym is the German term (otto partikelfilter) also known as PPF or GPF in the US.

Basically it’s muted all modern cars and they are software tuned so can’t just be removed without addressing the ECU.

  8. I rear drove a 718 GTS 4.0 and the OPF genuinely robs it of the theatre the 981 GTS has, I cancelled my new car order and bought a 981 GTS, very happy too.

  9. I have recently upgraded from a 987.1 3.2S to a 2015 981 GTS. Test drove a 718 2.5T (performed amazingly but lacked character). test drove a 4.0 GTS and placed a new car order, realised I couldn’t be patient cancelled said order and purchased the 981 😂

Covered about 350 miles in first week, it’s great fun car to drive and it sounds great with PSE valves open.

I would recommend you have a test drive and see what you think, yes they are expensive at £50k but life’s short, live a little 😉

  10. Hi all,

Just bought a 981 GTS manual and want to upgrade the wheel to a newer/smaller diameter (360) Macan/718 wheel.

The current wheel has multifunction buttons, has anyone done this upgrade to their 981 as an help appreciated.

    Thank you.
