  1. BBB is right - its a gopro mount. I am the COO for a small start-up company making software for Autonomous vehicles. I drive around collecting data on my gopro of scenarios happening on roads and then replay them on our software to see how an autonomous vehicle would have handled the situation.

  2. I got the car there this morning after leaving at 06:30 to avoid rush hour traffic. A couple of brown trouser moments, where she hesitated in traffic, but i nursed her along the least busy roads all the way to Lee.

A couple of hours to investigate, he found error P0102 - Hot film MAF sensor. The MAF itself is not the original Bosch part and a Bremi (as the previous owner stated) and Lee's boys stated that Bremi is not their preferred brand. The checked the Bremi part and found it working fine. On visual inspection inside the engine bay they found intake hose after MAF loose clip corroded. This was replaced and I was off home.

The car performed perfectly all the way home - not a single hesitation and perfect idle in traffic. @CAZ - Lee and Lyndsay say hi and @the baron Lee says he looks forward to seeing you later.

I am using viola over the next couple of weeks - Look at the state of her:

  3. Thanks all.

The car is booked in with Lee and the gang at Cotswold tomorrow. However, I used the car to drop my youngest off at college and the car stalled 23 times in 3 miles. The car was hunting around at idle.

I hope i can make it to Lee tomorrow.!!

  4. Thanks all.

I decided to take the car to drop my daughter off at uni this morning. It was fine until the M25 and then i started to feel a slight hesitation once in a while. We pressed on and thankfully when leaving the M25 it stalled at the roundabout. It started straight back up and we were safe.

After the drop of it decided to play silly again near Ascot. Kangaroo jumping around all over the place. Even pressing the 'loud' pedal does nothing when it is one of those moods 🙂

I noted that idle can be a bit erratic before and after an episode.

My daughter sent me a link to this: https://daseuropeanautohaus.com/symptoms-of-a-failing-porsche-mass-air-flow-sensor/

As some of you above have said - this is the likely culprit. Now where to get one that wont cost me £500!!

  5. I checked this a little with my fault code reader over the weekend. The car behaved well all weekend, but then spluttered a little on the way to tesco.

I used my terrible fault code reader and hey presto no fault codes in memory.

Does anyone local ish to me (Wiltshire) have a Porsche system to plug in and read codes? There is no EML light on, on the dash.

  6. I checked the Fault codes this morning using my torque app and obd2 reader - no codes stored.

I also checked the fan and heater settings - the air re-circ is off - when i switch the air con off, the car steam up within a minute. The carpets and foam backing are all dry.

Is it time to buy a 911?

  7. Thanks all - no its not a tip its a manual - but I love the joke!!

I will check the carpets in the morning and also run the OBD2 code reader and report back.

No EML light at all. Which is odd.

No smell so I am not sure that it is the matrix, but it could be air recycle. I will check.

  8. I need the help and advice of the techie sorts on here regards by 2000 Boxster S (Viola).  I used the car yesterday and today to drive the long way from my home in Marlborough, Wiltshire to the Excel centre in London. Hotel rooms were £250 a night so i decided to drive the car.

Tuesdays trip was great with exception of Waze taking me through the city instead of around the M25. I had to pay the ULEZ and Congestion Charge for two days - plus parking for two days. Anyway i digress.

Today on the way in, slowly progressing through Knightsbridge - the car started to behave oddly. It was very jumpy, hesitant and then cut out a couple of times. It started fine on the key again, but the revs kept going up and down on their own. I was terrified that it would break down on a London red route or even worse in the Limehouse tunnel - can you imagine the headlines?

Anyway - any help on what to look for much appreciated. I have the Torque app and a OBD2 code reader so will try to pull a code or two tomorrow.

On a connected note - you might have read that I had the air con pipes replaced by Lee at Cotswold last month. I have noticed that:

    1. The air con works well, but if i turn it off (i.e. snow flake symbol off) the car steams up almost instantly. Its so bad one cant see out of the car. Is this normal?

    2. On occasion the air con make a hell of a noise. I cant describe it - its like a moaning noise. I guess that this is not normal?

    Many thanks.

  9. I am considering adding a reversing camera to my boxster. No i haven't crashed it, its just something to keep me busy and I guess it will be helpful.

What camera do people have? I would like a discrete camera if possible and I will plumb it into the Pioneer double din head unit i have.

Whilst here, does anyone have recommendations for swapping out the old fashioned fag lighter for a USB charger?

  10. I took Viola to Cotsworld Porsche for a simple oil and filter change, air con pipes replacement and re-gas as well as an odd noise investigation. Lee was kind enough to allow me to supply the parts.

Noise was a water pump on its way out and the associated tensioners on the serpentine belt. A cost that i was not expecting. Grand total £1001 - gulp!!!

    MOT next month.

  11. I collected my badge from OPC Swindon today. Tim Jackson in parts is the man you need to speak to.

I opted for the purple and green coloured badge. Well made and robust. Although, i cant find where to place it on my car. I was thinking that one of the front grills will house this nicely, but will have to make up a plate to attach it.

What is this talk about data breach?

  12. Apologies all, I have not been following the threads on this.

A letter from TFL arrived today informing me that my 986S is not ULEZ compliant. I have heard that this is in fact not the case and can be disputed. I am not sure how, but i was told that a certificate of conformity would tell TfL what they need to make it ULEZ compliant.

What is the latest on this please?

  13. Hi All.

Is the Boxster S ULEZ Euro 4 Compliant?

I have a honourable friend who is considering a purchase of   a 986S, but can only do so if Euro 4 ULEZ compliant.

My own 2000 MY Boxster S is non compliant and I would have to fork out £12.50 per day to drive London.

I have heard some of the later cars are compliant.

    Any help appreciated.

  14. I want to install the cleaner lined Aero wipers to my 986s. Do i need to change the arms? Mine are a little dog eared, so i would welcome having to change these, but wondered if, like in the old days, these are cheaply available via a Mk2 golf or similar and an easy swap.

Why have you screwed though the number plates?  The holder is screwed back to the plinth and the plate (without screws in it) it retained in the holder surely?  It still curves to the profile of the bumper.

I had to as the original plates were screwed in place. If i didnt go back through the same holes, i would need new plates.

  16. Just for you @the baron. Its actually not as bad as it looks in the pictures.

Please excuse the dust and mess, the lockdown and poor weather has meant that the garage has become the place to do most things at home - even woodwork!
