  1. Fitted! Thanks to Mark and Tim at OPC Swindon.

If you screw the front plate holder in, you can force it to match the curve of the front bumper. They look great and are a nice touch for the car.

  2. My Porsche classic plate holders arrived today! I found some time between Zoom meetings to fit these. They look ace. I couldn't use sticky fixings on the front plate and holder as i found that using screws forces the plate and holder to bend to the curve of the bumper. The rears are far easier!

    Thanks to OPC Swindon. 👍

  3. Typically it takes 4 - 6 wks before you get your pack, mine took exactly 7 wks to the day.

Its free and you get two magazines a year, 15% discount on all parts and 4 free car washes a year. It would be bonkers not to join.

  4. Thanks to this forum and a lovely person who shared information, I joined the Porsche Classic register via my OPC recently.

I have so far received a really nice metal classic Porsche membership card and small book all packaged up in what looks like very expensive box. I was looking forward to the promised classic number plate surrounds too, but i have not had these yet.

Does anyone know if these are still being issued? I also saw the Reading OPC were stating that window stickers were part of the offering.

If anyone is interested in joining - details here: https://www.porsche.com/uk/accessoriesandservice/classic/register/ - after all the 986 is 25 jare old!!!

  5. Thanks for the help all.

This morning i visited OPC Swindon and parted with £233 for two pipes and some O rings and an oil filer.

I will be trying to fit this and performing an oil change on the car in the next few weeks. I wish the weather would improve, it so much more tolerable crawling around under a car in the sunshine, than in the rain.

  6. Thanks Baron - My thought was to attack the air con pipes and the easier oil and filter change whilst the car is up in the air.

I might have to take you up on borrowing the oil filter removal tool. I will see what Eurocarparts can do about the oil and have a genuine oil filter and copper washer on order from Swindon OPC ready to collect friday.

  7. Following on from my last thread - i have decided to change the oil and filter on my car, even though she has done less than 2k miles since the last service in March 2019. It was Cotswold Porsche that completed the work at that time and they used Mobil 3000 5W 40 oil.

I spoke to my OPC who suggested that i buy the oil myself as they only buy in bulk. They do offer some specific oil in the Porsche Design booklet for the 986 at £100 for 5 litres!!

The OPC recommended using Mobil 1 0-40 ? Which should i use?

Lastly, what else should i check or replace whilst under the car. The last service was a minor.

  8. Thanks EDC - I looked back through some of my old emails as I recall i was trying to fix this a couple of years ago. I made contact with a company in Kettering called Bee-Cool ACS. They wanted me to remove the pipes and they would make up a set using the old unions. They wanted £365+vat in 2019 - so not a bargain when i can get the new pipes from OPC at around £200 to £250.

Let’s hope your condensers are intact otherwise it will be more 🤞🏼

Clean bill of health for the condensers from Cotswold Porsche.

According to Porsche Swindon - i need 3 large O rings and 1 small.

It seems one gets to 'Guru' status by post count not necessarily quality of content. I was till a 'BoXa Baby' or 'Newbie' 2 years ago.

If you want your own copy of the official Porsche parts catalogue go to this link and select your model from the drop down menu to download it.

It's all smoke and mirrors see?

No need to belittle yourself, you helped me and that is all that counts.

Thanks @Jeffcar1 - I had a quote from my local OPC - the parts look like:

No 6 is £130.16 inc vat

No 10 is £63.68 inc vat.

Large o rings £4.61 inc vat each

Small o rings £5.78 inc vat each

Just over £200 for working air con - plus of course a regas.

  11. With the warm weather temptingly close now and my 'an*l' nature to get everything working - i want to get my air conditioning working on my 986S.

A trip late last year to Cotswold Porsche raised that my air conditioning pipe(s) were peppered with holes. Can anyone let me know what to hunt out - is it a pair of pipes - i presume so and connector types? Ideally someone here will be breaking a car with known good pipe or can tell me what to look for.

At worst case, I am considering asking local companies to build the pipe if the OPC is too expensive.

    Any help appreciated.

  12. Interested in seeing the engine rebuild photos! Please post these.

Did you know that Orange lights weigh less than clear, so i am willing to swap you my lights for yours 😉

On a serious note, if you do strip the interior, i could do with a few bits, so please post on here. You could raise some serious money with the parts you will remove for your track car.

  13. @Berni29 and the rest of you guys.

I got the wheels done at some considerable cost. £630 all in to be accurate. Still weeping gently at this cost.

Anthracite centres with silver rims and barrels. Centre caps painted to match. I hope that this will keep the salt out and the wheels good for a few years. The diamond cut finish was a really PITA to keep clear of salt and thus corrosion.

  14. I collected my Sport design 2 wheels from Pro Alloys in Melksham. I finally sucked it up and paid for a refurbish. These wheels are notorious for corrosion on the diamond cut lips and 2 pc design. The water creeps under the lips and corrodes. I have bought several, slightly better sets where the lip has been painted and then not fitted them and sold them as I don't like the non standard finish.

Finally, I have gone for a light anthracite finish on the centres and to try and keep in line with the lighter diamond cut outer lip, I went for a silver painted outer lip. I hope that it suits the Viola metallic of the car and even had the centre caps painted to match.

Pictures as soon as I can find time to fit.

  15. Just dropped the wheels off at Pro Alloys in Melksham. I decided to ge the inner faces done in Light Anthracite and the outer rim in Porsche silver.

I need a new set of black wheel nuts? Anyone selling or can you point me in the direction of a decent set. Ebay seems to have full sets (20) for between £10 and £50. I have asked the OPC for a quote too.

Pictures once the wheels are back.
