Remap 987s
in 987
Waste of time remapping a 987. Just get it put back to stock

obviously lived near the coast. I have looked at a few cars over the years and the ones that lived by the sea are very obvious.

I think a lot of us have a cheapo OBD dongle and use something like the CARS SCANNER app to read codes. In fact I keep one in the glove box. I have DURAMETRIC too but the cheap dongle is fine for basic code reading and reset the CEL. Depends how hands on you.
Good luck with it and welcome back.

The regulator doesn't include the motor so your OPC will be the best place unless you get a working used one.

Have you managed to check what the CEL is flagging ?
-
isn't the Porsche access system alarm related ? also i believe your 8007 code is airbag related.
Be good to get in scanned with Durametric at the least I would say.

Hi,
Another weird code post. My 2.7 987.1 Cayman has started throwing these codes. It started with P2189 (Bank 1) which popped up, I cleared it and it popped up again a couple of weeks later. I cleared it a second time and it's come back, but this time invited its friend P2187 along for the ride too. It seems that the common explanation for these is a loose oil cap, but mine is tight.
Before I take the engine cover off and dive on in, can anyone suggest where I should start looking? I understand that these aren't common codes on 987's (a search for them shows that they are dead common on Cayenne's though), so if anyone has any first-hand experience then I'd be very grateful.
(Logical thinking: running lean could be either an air leak into the inlet manifold after the AFM, or possibly an air leak around the lamba sensor. I have had the inlet manifolds off recently as I had to change the fuel rail on one side, which ended up meaning that both were changed and you need to get the inlet manifolds off to swap the fuel rails. This is therefore a good place to start looking, but if there is a code for both sides then I wonder if there is a single point of failure which would account for the two of them.)
Thanks.
Check the seal on the cap. Mine was pretty much useless and since replacing it the idle is rock solid. See one of my previous posts where I discuss.

Oh yeah. That't totally different to my 987.1 cars.
Well done on the disassembly and I hop your find the fault. I'd check all the inlet / tubes / vacuum lines for splits etc.....

I would if I knew where they were in the vastness of my full garage. Pentalobe Security bit set from Amazon.
Not even sure if the MAF is the OPs issue thinking about it but it's worth cleaning it up anyways.

Something in that box of tricks should do it. I'd be looking at the third row, T20 maybe.
You can certainly look at it but it won't fit. Not if the OPs part is that same as my 2 cars

Not on the MAF, the dome head bolt is a conventional 6 point Torx but with a pin in the centre. A number of multiple tip Torx kits actually have the hollow tip bit if you check.
Well I can tell you on my 2006 2.7 Boxster and the Cayman I tinker with they were both "Pentalobe" bits. Not normal security TORX.
I had any number of TORX bits including security types and nothing fitted. I had to order a set of Pentalobe ones from Amazon. Never used them since !

Cheers @sa utah. Been having a google, You tube vids etc and have seen they can use security Torx (Torx with a raised pin in the middle). I do have some of them. Will have a dabble tomorrow in daylight 👍
They actually have more "sides" than a normal torx / Allen bit............So not just the security type... Pentalobe?? I can't remember exactly.

you'll likely find your torx bits etc won't fit the MAF fixings. You'll need to order a set of the correct ones from Amazon etc. I forget what they are called.
-
I fitted Pagid to mine last time from ECP.

The offending item. For clarity this is best accessed by removing the drivers side (UK) rear wheel and and you§ll see it towards the back of the car. As you will see mine looks like it's from the Titanic.

Total result this morning. More penetrating oil this morning and the lever was moving albeit very stiff. Cleaned it all off with degreaser again and lubed it up...
All good now.. Saved £500.00 so very happy.
Might be worth you guys lubing your own up to prevent this.
Thanks for all your help as usual
