@andygoThere are people that will subscribe to either methodology but in fairness a 2.7 is materially different, the GTS is the same mechanically as an S only specification choices splits them. (Albeit with a few exclusive options).

Porsche has recognised and fixed this debate with the 718, the 4.0l GTS is worth every penny extra, unless of course you start debating on power delivery  🤣

    Or exhaust sound...

It is indeed that car. I like alcantara or leather. I actually really like the interior of that particular car. Wheel wise, I'd probably prefer the GTS wheels but the ones on it are also nice. Perhaps do a swap at a later date.

Is climate control an essential? I can't believe cars at this level are even sold without!

Which GTS wheels do you mean?

I prefer the turbo wheels on that agate GTS, so if you buy it and wish to do a wheel swop, please let me know!

    Hi guys,

So, thinking of a 981 and looking at a GTS or an S.

I've seen an amazing GTS on for £52k (2015, 28k miles) which is super spec'd.

    I've also seen a nice S (2015, 44k miles for £38k)

Given the large difference in price, I'm trying to work out what would be the better buy over 4-5 years. Am I likely to lose more on the GTS than the S over that period or would a GTS hold it's value enough to justify the difference?

    Thoughts please!

If it is the RPM car, it has no climate control, and I'm not sure about the brown leather steering wheel and dash.

I prefer an alcantara interior, it really elevates the GTS interior

But if you like it - then go for it!

I have looked at and test driven this car, nice example but the yellow was a little too bright for my taste.

Very little movement on price either, and no Porsche warranty. Not a fan of black wheels either.

It is over priced by about £5k in my opinion.

It's been for sale for a couple of months now, and will probably still be for sale next year unless he drops the price!

Ok which of you lucky sods just got a bargain 981 GTS? :D

    That would be me!

After having tried both a 992 Carerra and a 718 Spyder, I have finally come back full circle to a 981 GTS.

I have come to appreciate, via a very enjoyable, circuitous and financially rewarding route, that the 981 GTS is simply the best model in the range.

Whilst the Spyder was a beautiful car, the roof was a pain and the sound was never as nice as a GTS!

As for the financially rewarding bit, an OPC kept offering me me crazy money to buy it, and in the end I could no longer resist the temptation!

So, I'm very happy to be in a GTS again, these cars feel just right to me, this Carmine Red one is a lovely example and a credit to it's previous owner.

The shrink will probably suggest something like this: Mrs_map has to reward you. Then immediately give you something else to clean. Then a reward, and so on. Once ingrained, she can gradually taper off the rewards.  It worked for me  😂

  7. Xpel Ultimate PPF fitted to mine, very pleased with it.

Not a single mark on the car a year later.

Had this on all my cars and never had an issue.

In fact once, a few years ago, a huge sharp stone flicked up off a lorry and hit the centre of the bonnet, going through the film, denting and scratching the bonnet.

This went way beyond the design brief and the promise of the product to protect against stone chips. This must have been a small boulder!

Anyway, I made a claim to Xpel against their guarantee, they inspected the damage and paid for the damaged film to be removed, the dent to be repaired, the entire bonnet repainted and new film fitted.

    All under their guarantee!

Great product and company to deal with.

  8. Sometimes, in certain lighting conditions the heating elements in my heated front windscreen can cause a similar "ripple" effect.

Annoying when it happens, so I can imagine a protective film causing it all the time would be a nightmare!

I think this is a victim of the current lack of investment opportunities for the wealthy. Supply and demand forces the price up, but the demand is not for the best drivers car ever, it is for a rare collectible that should hold its price. A normal environment might give these a 5k premium over a Black Edition (same bhp, a few more kg) but not 12-15k over.

Same applies to the current 981 GTS prices, I sold my low mileage 2015 GTS 2 years ago for £43,000.

Now the same car now is £53,000, even though it is two years older! The 981S prices seem more sensible though

My one year old 718 Spyder is currently worth over £10k more than I paid for it - strange times indeed!

So was Jimi Hendrix - he could play a tune or two..  I think he just played a right handed setup, but upside down?

    ..talented or what!

He was left handed but played right handed guitars flipped over and re-strung the correct way. So no real difference, he wasn't playing it upside-down or back to front in terms of the strings and notes on the fret board. Although obviously he was super talented!

Only reason he did this is because left handed guitars were scarcer and more expensive to buy back then.

Personal opinions are what I’m after, particularly from anyone that’s driven or owned both.

Didn't think i’d want to go back to Boxster after the 911, but really missed the open top and the handling.

I expressed my personal opinions already on your 981 question, I too sold my 981 Boxster GTS and bought a new 992 series 911 coupe.

But like you, I missed the open top experience and handling of a mid engined car, I was fortunate to be offered the chance to swap it for a new 718 Spyder - so I grabbed it with both hands, awesome car!

  12. I have had two 981 GTS's and currently have a 718 Spyder.

As you posted in the 981 section, I assume you are considering a 981 GTS vs 981 Spyder. This means you are looking at a price range of £50k to £75k.

I would go for neither, but get a 718 GTS 4.0 instead, even if you order from New and have to wait. There a few used ones on Autotrader for £71k, still better value than a 6 year old 981 Spyder. The 981 GTS is not worth £10k more than a 981S.

My reasoning for a 718 GTS is mainly for the 4.0 litre engine, newer car and PDK gearbox option, it's a big step-up from a 981 GTS, yet available for 981 Spyder money. Both the 981 models seem to be over priced at the moment, the youngest cars will be nearly 6 year old cars, yet they are selling for virtually their original list price when new. The market is bonkers!

The ultimate model of course is the 718 Spyder, but values are sky high and availability scarce.

The 718 Spyder is the best looking car Porsche makes in my opinion and good value if you can find one, the roof is a bit of a faff if you are using it as a daily driver. However, used as a weekend and sunny weather car, it is very special indeed and the roof stays down anyway!

    Happy hunting!

Some people do use those sticky hooks and bits of string but I didn’t fancy them dropping on car😩

The Lamborghini is just there temporarily until I finish building the GT3 RS👍

So they hang by their front wheels?

Do you have a link to supplier please?
