It’s a interesting position to be in and I honestly don’t know what I would do!

I ve always loved the Boxster Spyder but equally I am a big Ferrari fan.

I do think the 458 is the pick of the sensible Ferraris😉 but if you want a car to use and enjoy they are mileage sensitive…. Also you would still need to put a decent lump of money together with the sale of the Spyder to get there.

I would personally be over the moon to own and drive a brand new Spyder and feel quite smug I could let it go for £10k over list if I wanted.

    The choice is yours….

Current thinking is to keep the Spyder for the reasons you very eloquently state!

Me, I would sell BUT for me that £10,000 represents almost half my yearly wage so unlikely I would ever be in your position.

So running costs on the 718 I could probably handle but not the Ferrari's I would expect.

Having said all that if Covid has taught me anything it is that your health/life is a fragile and fickle thing.

So if there is something you want to do, and let's be honest who wouldn't want a Ferrari, then fill your boots.

Just please don't be shy and keep us updated with piccies etc.

Hmm...I know what you, it's all relative I suppose, £10,000 to me is a lot smaller percentage of my annual wage.

Running costs would worry me, as would lack of warranty.

It is also a fair chunk of money on top of the Spyder to get a 458, is it worth it?

I am currently thinking that the 458 is nice - but not 50% more money nicer than my Spyder!

Swapping German for Italian…..  you must be mad.  That £10k will be spent on maintenance and repairs very quickly if you do!

Yes, that is a consideration, especially as it would be 7 years old and well out of warranty.

  4. Completely out of the blue, I've just been offered £10k over what I paid for my 718 Spyder due to the current shortage of new cars...

It is a tempting offer - but what else is there to buy that's as good at the price?

Damned if I know, suppose I could buy another new Spyder - but what's the chance of getting one?

Never been in this position of being able to "flip" a car for so much profit in such a short time frame.

Hmm, what to do, as possibly the last of the petrol engined Spyders it may always be a good investment and hold it's value. Although it was bought as a car to drive, not as an investment!

    Thoughts?

Pops and bangs are not a good thing - after following some Twonk down the M3 the other day who's little A3 was making these every 5 mins as he kept accelerating and lifting - it very, very quickly wears thin

I did sometimes cringe when going through built up areas in the 981 GTS as it popped and banged even with PSE off. Everyone turned too see which "boy racer" was approaching.

Great fun if you are out for a spirited run with other noisy Porsches, but as you say it wears a bit thin after a while.

My wife hated it and it was far to noisy on a long run - or maybe I'm just getting too old for that racket!

The 718 Spyder is a little more refined in that regard!

My neighbour has owned his 982 Spyder for a good while now and I think the sound has improved with use.

That said I think it sounded pretty good fresh from the factory - too many exhausts are engineered to sound “sporty” and they just sound fake.

Based on my neighbour’s car the 982 GT/Spyder makes a great noise once they’ve actually had some proper miles put on them…..

    That's good to know Matthew.

I know a few new owners who are now looking at options to add back the sound the extra emissions has robbed 😉 ….its across the range but more noticeable on the open tops

Yes I noticed that, however without removing the extra emissions gubbins I don't think any aftermarket exhaust will give back the pops and bangs on the over run. Problem is that fiddling with emissions filters etc causes the car to throw an error light and is illegal in the UK.

Having listened to several exhaust systems, of which the JCR seems most popular, they don't appear to sound much different to stock. Also they may cause Porsche warranty problems...

I had big problems with drone when I put an Akrapovic exhaust on an BMW M2 in the past, so I am a bit wary of introducing that issue too!

All in all, the car sounds good, yes the pops and bangs have gone but thats the way things are for all new cars going forward. So shelling out for a new exhaust seems to be a very quick way to waste £4,500 if you are not very careful!

The sound is supposed to improve with miles apparently, so I will see how it goes.

Oh yes I forgot new wheels as well.

I think in the future it will be the @RBD914 v2type of mods I will try too concentrate on :neo:. Loving the Aurum wheels Rob, did you spec the car yourself? ...PDK I presume.

No, I went back to a manual gearbox actually Tony.

Yep, I specified the car exactly as I wanted it, nothing too fancy, I didn't want carbon seats, full leather, pdk, climate, cruise, bose, etc, etc.... I wanted a raw, back-to-basics roadster in which I felt 100% involved in the actual driving process.

This objective was achieved in every way, this is (in my opinion) is a great looking driver's car with the minimum of luxuries to detract or distract from the purity of really driving and interacting with a powerful sports car.

I think the 992 experience had left me a bit numbed to these feelings, as it went about its business like any other fast  BMW/Merc/Audi - which left me a little cold to be honest, it certainly didn't excite me or inspire to go out for a drive just for the fun of it.

I wanted that raw excitement of the GTS back, which the Spyder gives me in spades!

This car is not merely a mode of transport, each drive is an "event" and an intoxicating interaction between man and machine!

Try one if you get the chance, the 4.0 F6 718 Spyder is  simply an awesome car in every way!

By the way, I swayed between Black or Aurum wheels for ages, but glad I went Aurum in the end, they really lift the car to another level I think.

  9. Fair enough, I didn't realise you were a previous Lotus owner - so the draw is understandable.

My first real sports car was a TVR, but don't think I could be tempted back!

I've had Porsches for over 30 years now, so my loyalties lay with the marque and always will do I guess.

Funny how you get attached to things isn't it?

Good luck with the Lotus @mneil it's certainly a very good looking car, reminds me of a junior Ferrari...

    Very, very nice.

Gold wheels with silver body works brilliantly - if you’d described that I’d have been sceptical to say the least.

This iteration of the Spyder is probably the only Boxster that would tempt me to sell my 986.

Keep going back to the photos.

    Fabulous….!

    Glad you approve Matthew!

Congratulations Jonathan! Looking forward to seeing it on the Bridgnorth runs😃.

I've had a change of heart and gone for something visually very different, the new Lotus Emira supercharged V6.

Do you think anyone will notice an infiltrator🤗

Nice looking car the new Lotus, but it's not a convertible..

Surprised you went for it over the 718 GTS, what was your reasoning out of interest?

  12. Just sold my AMG A45S to WBAC.

Part exchange price against a new car £39,000.

Offer from Mercedes dealer to purchase for stock £40,000, as they would retail it at £43,500 apparently.

Average retail price on Autotrader £44,000 to £45,000 same age, spec and mileage.

Purchased brand new one year ago for £45,000.

WBAC offered £44,000, so deal was done. Cheap motoring for 12 months!

God knows how they will make any money on that via the auction house!

Well pleased, so I have finally gone the electric vehicle route!
