  1. These were used for approx 12k miles and have been in my shed for the past 5 years.  They are (I think) the steel finished tips.  The tips havn’t got much pitting but obviously need a polish up with a buffing wheel/autosol or similar if you want a mirror finish (got to admit I leave mine to develop an even sooty coating which after about 6 months just looks like the black finished product).  The fastenings look a bit rusty but this is just surface rust, I’ll get a socket on them tomorrow and loosen and retighten the nuts just to ensure they are fine.  These haven’t been cleaned up at all other than the removal of the majority of the soot on the tips when I removed them 5 years ago, so they look at their worst currently.

So you are aware.  To fit these you might have to loosen one side of your exhaust at the cat to give you enough wiggle room to get them on. It you do have to do that then it raises the issue of the state of the bolts on the joint.

let me know if you are interested and we will work out a price.

Funny that i think a heated wheel makes more sense than the seats, my hands are always colder than my body on a cold day but I've never tried one so no idea if they are any good.

To be fair, yes heated wheel does work well, and would help on a cold day. In my case it just tends to be left on all the time in the OHs car, which isn’t a Convertible. I tend towards gloves on a cold day in the Box.

I never thought I’d use a heated steering wheel, and now I have one, it’s on during these cold mornings. Things we get used to I guess

First thing I switch off every time I get in the wife’s car.  She on the other hand refuses to have a car without heated wheel, hers seems to be on all year around.

got them, never use them, and the car does get used all year round, even roof down in winter. Find the heater more than adequate

    Same here.

  5. How flat?  If it’s still 10-11v then you shouldn’t have issues.  If it’s 0v and been left like that for long it is likely feked!

if you have a smart/trickle charger (Ctek or similar) you should be able to charge in situ as these soft start and charge at a slower rate, you don’t even have to disconnect terminals.

I’ll let someone else comment on 986 issues with removing battery.

Ah right, yeah in which case may as well stick with the OPC servicing then if the plan is continue with warranty extensions 👍

Yes exactly.   I am still with the OPC as I intend maintaining warranty cover, if I wasn’t I’d probably go with a specialist.

Doesn't the OPC warranty stay intact if it's still fitted with OPC parts?  That Raby one seems very reasonable if it really does have everything included.

It won’t invalidate any existing warranty currently running, however you will probably not be able to extend the warranty when it expires without having an additional OPC service.

  8. Anyone tried those double sided sticky pads for this type of job.  They are sticky as hell and would easily hold the weight, but I guess it’s whether the heat will melt them off?

Just yesterday I was reattaching a heat-shield on my wife’s car (not Porsche).  I didn’t realise the plastic nuts were single use, got quite annoyed when I couldn’t get them to rethread.  Eventually I managed it using brute force, but at one point I was going to try a sticky pad under one corner, what’s the worse that could happen?

  9. I’ve used the Porsche SatNav pretty extensively the past few years and generally it’s fine. I don’t use google maps so maybe it doesn’t live up to the latest set of features.  Setting up waypoints or complex routes is somewhat clunky, and as above traffic info integration is limited.  However I find the mapping much better than Garmin (which I also use extensively).

I certainly wouldn’t be paying OPC £300+ for 2018 maps, but if a new version comes out I’ll update if possible (hopefully via Nav-expert or similar)

  10. As far as I know the latest maps are from 2018 and a new update is somewhat overdue (normally about every 2 years).  There are a number of people on here that have used an eBay user called Lucas ( can’t remember his I’d -I’ll have a search). There is a thread on here from a couple of years ago covering the process. You have to send him your car details and he sends back a usb coded to your specific car, cost was around £100 so somewhat more reasonable than the OPC.     As said though I’d be tempted to wait for a more recent update.

  11. For a chip that size I’d definitely be having it repaired rather than replaced, the possibility of issues with a replacement  screen far outweigh the downside of a repair IMO.  There are reports of: wind noise, condensation, DAB radio or GPS issues etc if you are unlucky with a replacement.

What I can tell is that PASM is amazing and makes a real difference when activated

Not trying to be an ar*e, but it is something that seems to be misunderstood so I’ll say again. PASM is always active, it has a comfort and a sport mode, both of which are adaptive with overlap between the two depending on driving style.

As Daz says, there are a couple of ergonomic failures, but nothing compared to many modern cars with screen based access to everything.

I also find the steering excellent, it certainly doesn’t have the feel of some cars (even earlier Boxsters) but it is very accurate, direct and predictable and to me confidence inspiring.

Glad you have had a positive start to your ownership. The real joy comes when you get on decent roads and get to experiance the handling and engine interactions, a real joy.

  13. Well it’s considerably more than the OPC warranty for less coverage,  I guess most of that would be clawed back by cheaper service and other maintenance costs.  But really it’s only a viable option for those with modified cars that could not get the OPC warranty.

If you don't cold start the car and leave it sitting for days and keep your eye on the exhaust mechanism you should have no issues there, that one is entirely in your hands.

How do you start you car?!!.  I may be thick but I honestly don’t know what you are trying to say here🤔

Is that the one that is located under the glove box and causes the fan to not stop unless you pull the fuse? I got a replacement and fixed it myself - probably under £50, plus a lot swearing and grazed knuckles as access isn't easy 🙂

There’s a common fault where the interior fan gets stuck and doesn’t blow, usually you can flip the frunk and give it a spin with you hand and is ok again for a period (various threads on here covering this).  I had this issue and manually restarted fan maybe 4-5 times, but then it wouldn’t go at all.  Took it in and said regulator/resistor pack was replaced, fan has been perfect since (2-3 years).

I suspect what is happening is that something in the regulator pack is going out of spec resulting in insufficient start current being sent to the fan, which can cause an intermittent non starting fan.  In my case this progressed and failed completely replacement fixing the issue completely.  In other cases the fan issue just persists. Porsche have been known to replace the fan itself to try to fix the issue but I bet 90% of these type of cases are that regulator pack.

  16. Yeh, for that amount either just add some water or don’t bother,  you do need to be carful you use t,he right stuff though as I believe the two different types shouldn’t be mixed.   Mine was low based on the mini dipstick in the boot.  I added about a cup full and it went above max! So if you do add some do it slowly.

you've had x2 sets of active mounts fail?

No.   Each side failed separately.    So each side has been replaced separately, cost each time being around £1000 + Labour.   Yes just reading my sentence above I see how you could have interpreted it that way. But would be very worrying if that was the case.

I was informed by the Porsche technician that the mounts had been modified  so replacements shouldn’t in theory fail, whether that’s true I couldn’t say.
