Then washed car, (Snow foam, pressure washed/shampoo/pressure washed/used dilute isopropolyl alchohol to wipe down bodywork to remove old wax etc).

Then clayed to remove mild contamination, used dual action polisher to remove any light marring, then finally used Fusso wax to finish.

That is a dedicated level of cleaning!

Heres a little clip showing a Tuscan with the driver under instruction loosing it into the gravel at the start of his 2nd lap. Considering the instructor was there he completely cocked up the corner!

I can only imagine what was being said in that car.

I downloaded where I am following Stuart, MK1fan in his Tamora

I forget he has that. Was the Tamora running ok? There was a T350 that flew past you and he didnt pull away as I would expect on the straights.

Annoyingly, I could have made the afternoon in the end. The meeting I had cancelled and I completely forgot it was on or would have popped up.

How long is the article in 911 and Porsche world?

Cheeky ask, but any chance you'd be able to scan / photograph and share? It's piqued my interest.

I just checked this article and it’s a few pages long.

That magazine and literally thousands of others, and a number of newspapers are available on Readly. if you and/or people in your family read a couple of magazines per month, have a look at it. You can have 4 or 5 concurrent users and it works great on an iPad. We have had an account for several years now but have never seen it advertised.

Just for balance, I have a 987.2 PDK 3.4 with Sport chrono etc., the PDK is brilliant but I think I'd be happeier with a manual, if I am honest I also preferred the rawness of my 986S especially after all the mods I did.

Agreed. Having had 3 years with a 9x7 and a bit longer in a 9x6, neither is as fast or responsive as my new Polo GTi but the 9x6 is my choice as a fun second car.

I didn’t appreciate that your car was so well equipped with cages etc. I was shocked to see casual references to 100 mph impact speed and pleased you walked away relatively unscathed. I can now see why you did!
Is that a Boxster cup car (or whatever they call it) this is in the race series?

though I’d prefer a slightly firmer foam but alas the custom seat base makers don’t do a Boxster base.

It is the support for the foam that provides a lot of the firmness. There is a mat and some fixings around the mat that you will be able to see if they are split and cutting into the foam.

On my 986 driver seats, the drivers seat was softer than the passenger seat, so I pushed a shaped off-cut of carpet in covering the whole mat and supported it with some cable ties . This made the seat firmer as result but I changed the seats for 987 ones which are constructed differently and a lot firmer. 987 seat base

  8. Good luck in your search. The MX5 is a great car and I drive my sons mk2.5 regularly - a lot of fun but not as quick as the Boxster. I can remember a turbo MX5 coming out on a TVR hoon once and it was a rapid thing for sure, so a great combo!

Don't rule out a 986 would be my advice. I had a 987 for 3 years as a daily and 996 for slightly longer. Personally, I prefer the drive of the earlier car and on the day I bought my current 986, I tried a 987.2 in ideal spec (switchable exhaust, full leather, sports seats and guards red) and still preferred the character of the 986.

Mortimer's have good cars and set-up. They also have some 986s in stock, to try as well. The 987 seats are definitely better though and it's a relatively simple job to fit them in a 986 and possibly essential if you are over 6' tall.

    Good luck with your search

Unfortunately I stupidly dropped a wheel on the grass coming out of Church at well over 100, I ended up spinning backwards into the Armco at about 100, not advised.

That is a big impact speed. Are you ok?

  10. Some of the filler repairs that are possible are very good although I think your problem there is going to be colour match.

  11. Here is the fag paper costs for the conversion kit here: https://www.986booster.com/enhancedrepowerkit

The question is, how fast do you want to go @phazed :)

When developing the kit we'd used the following as a "project cost" to assess how feasible it was:

    - 2.5L Boxster ideally with engine failure - £2000 - £3000
    - Enhanced Kit - £2500
    - MOT Fail (corrosion) Audi TT 225 - £1000 - £1250
    - PWR Booster Chargecooler Kit - £950
    - Hybrid K06 Mod on existing K04 TT Turbo - £570
    - Hoses, Fittings and related (assuming all new silicone) - £900
    - Clutch Kit (B5 RS4) - £370
    - Ignition ECU - £1000
    - MAC Three Port Boost Control Valve - £75
    - Bespoke downpipe, midpipe with 200 cell CAT and modified Boxster silencer - £750

This gets you a circa 300bhp/300ftlbs Boxster for £10K - £11K. You can do it for well under £10K if you use a standard ME7.5 ECU with an immob delete but the above spec gives you a lot of options for future development. For example whilst the engine is out you could fit steel rods, retaining the standard pistons, with fresh big end bearings and then do 350bhp/300ftlbs on the above setup with excellent reliability. Fit some forged pistons too and 360bhp/320ftlbs is within the hybrid K06/K04 capability but at that point fitting a G25 Turbo and matching manifold will provide options for well over 400bhp.

Was at Badger5 a couple of Sundays ago with another BoXa member and another club - loads of interest in what they do, and lots of great sounds coming out of the car they had on the rolling road and playing around with - think they have another open day on a Sunday in conjunction with Boho Bakery On Tour in August September time - 400 cars at the last meet - think I booked a ticket for it  😊

    Sounds like a good bunch!

That looks very interesting... wonder how much he would charge to install as well. Boosted 986 would be interesting having loved my old mr2 turbos in the past.

Then it comes down to maintenance and which garage would touch it.

In the email exchange we had he included "There is also the option of a drop off/pick up service as Badger 5 are happy to perform the full conversion, including any engine build requirements, calibration work etc. as a one stop shop"

They look to be these people. https://badger5.co.uk

  14. There is a big build thread on Pistonheads about this modification and it turns out, there is a full kit to fit a VW 4 Cylinder turbo engine into the Boxster. The person doing it seems super capable and a decent bloke. He picked up on one of my comments and sent me some info on another matter a few weeks back and he gave me an indication of costs to do it all - the idea of the project is to buy a 986 with a broken engine and give yourself at least 300 BHP plus the option of a lot more for the cost of a flat 6 rebuild and new clutch.

I mentioned this thread to him and he said he didnt want to join a community to simply promote something and gave me the link to his project website, which is not on Pistonheads.

At last took my modded S for a decent run today. Pulls like a train through the whole rev range as opposed to before where it was weak in the midrange.

Wouldn’t be surprised if it is running high 200’s bhp! Result…

Glad its running properly now Peter.

    wired in factory heated seats

Did you post this on one of the Facebook groups as well? If so, I meant to message you for details and that person mentioned they were an auto electrician, so I am assuming a fully working installation?

There is someone on here who fitted 986 heated seats and didn’t find them very warm. I am sure any contributions here would be appreciated.
