Very little use and 'minor' wear to driver's bolster.  Methinks not.  Still not light grey though - Phew!

Not sure light grey was an option for the 987, so I may be safe.

These seem fairly light and picked them up today!

  2. There is a little infill of plastic in front of the carpet that finishes it off. If you are doing it DIY and for people of a certain age, covering it in sticky back plastic, you could probably do without that but the genuine part needs that second plastic part.

I really like the look of that but like you... i also use the little cubby hole there although i do have a glovebox too.

I had the continental head unit that has track skipping on Spotify by pushing the top right button. My Bluetooth adapter doesn’t on the 986 but I can use the track skip feature in waze.

Can't upload photos to the forum as they're too big.

I also have a black centre console lid and black roll bar covers on the way. It looks weird with the grey now.

Looking at those pics, the 987 seat back seems to sit differently against the engine firewall, at least on the passenger seat? I have just checked and hadn’t appreciated how close my head was to the soft top or how the top of the drivers seat sat Inside the hoop!

At the moment if someone hit me in the back hard enough the top of my head would probably contact the roll bar. With the old 986 seats it would have been a lot worse, as in a lot more of my head would contact. I think if I drop the seats as low as it can go my head would be okay - but then the driving position seems to hurt my lower back (hence my comment regarding lumbar support).

that’s interesting. I don’t supposed you measured them from the top of the seat head rest to the to sear runners?

  6. I have access to my son’s MX5 (mk2.5) and a 986. Driving back to back, I love the MX5 it is such fun and a turbo one would be fairly rapid. The Boxster will be more refined and will probably feel slower as a result but goes very well.

Do go in eyes open on the parts though and check what you could be getting into. Some of the parts on the MX5 we have needed to change (emissions sensors and cats, plus front callipers and service parts) are a fair bit cheaper.

There is a reasonable sized group of Boxsters that meet in Surrey every weekend and it would be worth popping along to one of those meetings to see the range of cars and the different versions.

A back to back would be good. Graham ;).

I can remember the back to back at Charlie’s when I found out my 5.3 had feeling issues and he stopped the power run.
Sure we can sort something. Having driven the 986 back to back with my 996, there is a bit more of a difference than the 200cc and I would say that was throughout rather than just the top of the rev range.

  8. Sounds like you need a trip to Charlie’s assuming he is still doing the power runs? That would tell you what is happening with the afr under load and assuming all ok, how much difference Porsche designed in to make the Boxster the number 2 to the 911.

  9. Enjoy.  Nice car the 986. Re Carnewell, they don’t do exchange on the 986 anymore so their price is having your existing car system modified in their workshop in Belgium.

Only thing that seems incorrect at the moment is the PSM light is on the switch, but maybe that might go out as the car turns a wheel on the road.

PSM warning light on can be linked to a few things. Random steering angle sensor fault code my nemesis.

987 seats on the way. I saw a pair of decent looking ones in black on eBay and jumped at the chance. Now I'm wondering if I am going to regret it..

I don't yet know too much other than the wiring is not plug-n-play. I am hoping I don't need to change too much on the wiring for the seats. The seats aren't heated so there's just the adjustment motors to connect - unless I need to do something with the seatbelt as well?

I have read that installing 997 seats into a 996 requires you to re-use the original 996 seatbelt fittings because using the 997 seatbelt fittings upsets the car apparently. No idea if that's true or not.

I am reading up on the whole process and have found some helpful tips already - Aaron from help Me DIY on YouTube did a great few videos on getting the heating elements to work on his seats - but we shall see. I plan to tackle this next weekend (seats arrive this Friday or Monday next week latest) and will report back.

Have you seen this article? Good luck!

On a more positive note, I took the car for a drive out to Beachyhead this morning early. Pouring rain so I didn't go fast- good thing too because there was a pony standing on the road and I don't fancy wearing one as a hat thanks very much - but the car ran beautifully. Now the sun is out here so I may give it a good wash as a reward :)

    How is the new suspension?

Has anyone fitted factory heated seats to a car not prepared?

whats involved? Obviously the console switches, but what else?

    thanks

There is a how to add heated seat elements to a 986 on here and most of that will still apply due to the wiring changes required.

  14. I have used this on several cars but stopped using the colours on first use. It didn’t look natural and . Assuming the roof is in ok condition, a good clean and water proofing treatment (both with Renovo) has worked for me.
