There is a chap on 911uk forum who does drilling jigs for properly drilling out these bolts when they shear. You might get it with an extractor if you are lucky, but once you have to drill, the bit will likely slip off into the softer alloy rather than follow the M6 bolt down the correct line.

I think this is something I am going to need to do or have done (probably the latter) as I have one snapped bolt and can’t believe how much the manifold bolts appear to have corroded compared with the rest of the underside. Do you know the user name and are the jigs engine specific given the different engine capacities?

  2. I registered for this last week and don’t have a clue what happens next. I did think that you do not get the number plate holders any more and actually bought one at Goodwood yesterday for £10 to use on the rear of the car when/if I put my private plate on my 986. Hopefully, I will have a spare!
one thing I did notice reading this thread is that Porsche previously charged for this scheme, which might explain why the application form mentions 2 years free membership?

Thanks, the Cdr23 doesn't have the AUX option sadly. I went to Halfords and got some electrical contact cleaner. Stripped and cleanef the head unit but still the same.

I think I will post it to DND Services in Devon as they have said they might be able to fix it.

    Good luck with it.

They are a 996 specific wheel. They are also the lightest Porsche wheel for the 996.

That is what the seller is saying and the part about the lightest. I quite like them but also thinking of some colour to contrast with the lapsis blue. Gold would work and also thinking of black of some shadow chrome type thing.

They will fit fine even without spacers but will sit a bit inboard on the back. I have a set with exact same digits on my 986.

Thank you. They look like gold versions of the ones I have seen. Is the plate linked to the engine in some way or just your personal plate?

  6. Looking at some new wheels for a 2001 986 S and they are 17" x 7" ET50 for front and 17" x 9" ET55 for the rear which reverses the offset. If I have understood willtheyfit.com, there will be a larger gap to the suspension on the front and I will need 10 or 15 mm spacers on the rear?
not ever looked at this before and any guidance appreciated.
    thanks.

  7. Good luck with the sale. When I was in the market in May June there was a good red 987.2 with all the bits including switchable exhaust and that was on for £18.5k with 50 or 60k miles

It didn’t sell quickly and it was very a sunny time. I saw it advertised before I went off holiday in May and actually viewed it the day I bought my 986 in mid June. I was very surprised it hadn’t sold at that price. I would have bought it but preferred the simplicity of the 986 seeing them back to back.

Yes, but currently out of stock in UK and German parts distribution

I actually try to order these today and got told by Sidcup OPC that on back order week 37 delivery to Germany (currently week 32/3). They then called me back to say Tewksbury had some in stock and when I spoke with Tewksbury, they wouldn’t post! They then explained  that 10 pairs are in the U.K. and they are being delivered to Tonbridge on Tuesday!

Do these burn hotter compared to standard spec lamps?

Am asking because I’ve seen a few 986 with halogens that have brown “burns” on the internal lenses.

I have these on my 996 on dipped only and no obvious problem with heat but to be fair, I don’t use the car much in the dark. Very pleased with them as the standard bulbs are borderline dangerous compared with the LEDs on my daily driver.

I have one of those as well although mines the rarer non aero kit😂😂

Must be about 5 or six silver aero kit cars in our group

LOL and a good pair of cars. I wish I had the space for both.

Have any of them in your group been put up for sale recently? I have been trying to sell the not so rare aero for a month or so and every time I get someone interested, another Silver aero appears for sale.

Also, assuming that two pastel 2.5s have not changed hands this week, I saw the car on Facebook and think it looks good!

  11. Insurance, the devil is in the detai, which you often don't find out until its to late. Based on my experience, 3 & 5 and probably 2 are the same thing. 4 should be covered by the club insurance and that is one of the reasons such events are members only. I am not in any Porsche Clubs but TVR and Triumph covered you for club events if you had the "club" discount from a club approved insurer. Covered me for Grand Prix circuit at Brandshatch and Milbrook Proving ground.

Ask how comprehensive the European cover is. That could be a bit of a surprise as well.

why can’t I add any pictures??

Pictures need to be hosted via 3rd party and link added. I use imgur and when you up load the pic, you get many options and direct link works best..

Took it for an evening run to a PCGB meet at Symounds Yat.  Good fun both ways, especially the A466 from Chepstow to Monmouth..

I now know how bad the standard headlights are....

I have put Ring 55w 200% bulbs in mine, dipped and mains and very pleased.

Try Spyder Performance. Ridex are always suspiciously cheap, no idea who actually makes them.

Thanks. Spyder have a couple of different sets (including adjustable!) but as far as I can see, no branding on either. Spyder are not far from me but Matt at Type911 is very local. I will call in or speak with him tomorrow.

When I bought my RS60 I was always disappointed with the gear change. It was okay-ish, but I always thought it could be better..

I changed the gearshift assembly for a genuine Porsche item, also replaced the cables. This improve matters, but I was still disappointed.

After about two years I thought I would have another go. I had seen a few videos on YouTube where owners had shimmed the assembly to take out the slack, (sideways slack). I did this using an old pair of feeler gauges finding the correct thickness finger and making a shim from this. Pretty easy using the bit of knowledge gained from YouTube and the improvement was brilliant.

I should have done this with the original set up and saved myself a few bob as this is pretty much a no cost improvement.

The improvement is really noticeable when I use the car on track as especially changing gear from the 2nd to 3rd gear was a bit hit and miss. Fine on the road but when you are pressing on you want a more precise feel.

Didn’t you change the gear change cables as well?

  16. It is a forum error on 911uk as someone interested in my 996 can’t access the running thread! I have fitted one of these to my 996 and from memory, it’s a one way change that can’t be reversed (mine definitely couldn’t be). From memory it’s around £150/£160 and it makes a big change to the driving experience.
I hope the 9X6 is interchangeable with the 9X7 unit as I have bought a complete unit with one of Alex’s modified mechanisms fitted in case I ever bought another car. Still undecided if I am going to fit it or not. If I drive the cars back to back, I am definitely going to fit it but otherwise, I quite like the gear change on the 986!
