  1. Mine fell off…….just got in the car one day and it was just hanging by the wires……..it was under OPC warranty so just contacted them assuming just fitment of a new mirror BUT…….it was a 3 day job, new windscreen as the mirror fitting is bonded to the screen !……..god knows how much it cost……..if it had been out of warranty I’m sure I could have found a way to bond it myself ;-)……..I guess it depends which part is loose ie if its the part that touches the windscreen then it will bonding

  2. The rennline is by far the neatest solution……..

you can see where I have the power lead tucked into the cubby (from the passenger footwell, easily tucks under the side trim) to just plug into the bottom of the phone when needed…….simple metal disk on the back of the phone and it gives you full use of the PCM and the phone with two screens almost the same size

its not the cheapest option though………but looks much better than any other with or without the phone fitted IMHO

The Brodit is a similar concept but just not executed as neatly 😉

  3. So online prices for the high level brake light range from £70 used to £90-£115 new.......thought I had better check with Chester OPC........c£56+VAT lol........I have ordered it with a list of parts for my 993, mainly undertray clips ....which cost as much ! and got between 5% and 10% off (they actually insisted on a TIPEC membership number this time, maybe tightening up?) ..........I'll get the exact cost when I pick it up

  4. Very nice......the seatbelts and red dial are part of the GTS interior pack........for the analy retentive the GTS interior pack red dial is "better" than the red dial option for none GTS cars as that gives you two red dials but the right hand LCD dial obviously remains black which looks unbalanced.......the GTS pack just having the centre red dial is much more aesthetically pleasing 😉

....some aftermarket add ons......the red line under the GTS door script, red front splitter and rear spoiler, are they originals wrapped or new parts ?

  5. I noticed the last time I washed my car that the high level brake light (clear lens) was slightly discoloured in one section towards the drivers side……..I then forgot about it lol…….2 weeks later and I got a high level brake light error message in the car…….on checking sure enough there is one bulb out behind the discoloured section…….I’ve checked and a new clear Porsche unit is c£90 so:

    - I presume these are easy to remove

    - are they bulbs or LED “strips” that can be replaced or does it require a new unit ? (Presuming the discoloured section can also be corrected.

It does look like moisture has got in there hence the discolouration and failure so I’m guessing a seal has probably gone with age and a new unit is best but just wanted to check options. Also is there a “smoked” version as for the 986 as that may be an option is I need to replace ?

Thanks for any pointers in advance 😉

  6. Finally !!!!.......managed to get out on a fast road run in the boxster  :drive: ....and in a group which I've not done for years ....great to get out with a bunch of guys who are not afraid to drive these cars as they should be  :thumb:

So the NW 911UK crew met up at various points to make it over for a run around the Forest of Bowland with fish and chips in Settle as the destination.....

initially I followed Harrie in his Exige 410 :cigar: for a gentle amble up the M6......the noise from that thing made the boring part of the trip very entertaining 😁

....the final meet up point was Booths in cl*theroe to empty bladders

We then proceeded on the route proper.......too fast to safely take any pics but lets just say I had fun following the GT3 Touring  :thumb:

I was a fantatic run out.....you really can't beat a fast B road run, with great weather, light traffic on unfamiliar undulating and twisty roads (the weather had been mixed earlier but dry and it was  effectively an evening run)......reminds you what driving is really all about away from the traffic light grand prix's 😉 .....being back in convoy at pace really is an experience to be shared, as much as I love a solo run there is something added with the shared experience......

The run back was a little more gentile but great none the less as the sun set over the scenary on offer......we even managed the obligatory Ribble Viaduct pics....

  7. Ps there is a Porsche meet over in Manchester on the 5th June if you fancy a run out, nice pub with a second car park we use.......mainly Porsche but some of the guys turn up in other exotica ..........they change cars more often than I can keep track of so always something new to look at .......let me know and I’ll send you details, I’d take Daisy but she still does not do “fastness”, Taylor would love it though.......Isyman may be there in his GT2RS........you can moan to him about the blocked drains lol

  8. Yep I’ve never had it but believe it can be a bit of a nightmare to dry out the carpet backing......worth getting it fully dry to avoid that aweful damp smell you could get though 👍...........drive it around with the roof down helps 😁

ps may be worth you getting one of those reusable silicon packs you can leave in the car to soak up any lingering dampness

  9. Very good review 👍

The only thing I would add is that turbo lag was also a big factor for me........its not unique to the 718 but by the move to FI in any car....you can;t get around physics, hit those B road bends and it becomes much more of an issue for me........I had one for 3 days and took it back early ........in summary as you say lots of improvements over the 981 but more than offset by the engine sound and FI driving characteristics for me ........and a lot of others.........Porsche admitted their mistake when they fitted 6 cylinders back in 😉

  10. My 987 is in storage for 6 months of the year on a CTEK charger / maintainer.....

the other 6 months of the year the car is sat on my drive, it can be hardly used over a couple of weeks (especially last year with covid restrictions)......I have to occassionally put it on a battery charger......so I ended up fitting a bluetooth battery monitor (c£20) which was brilliant for telling me that there was no problem with the battery or the alernator but it was just a constant small drain on the battery which is normal.......this year I have bought a solar battery charger which I leave plugged into the passenger footwell socket and simply place on the dashboard when not in use, battery has been 100% charged all the time ie the solar charger is more than enough to compensate for the normal drain......

Batteries do degregate over time and also can be discharged too low where they are damaged and will not retain a charge properly....

I would be checking the mileage the car has been doing over the past year (MOT records etc....) and if its low simply put it down to normal battery drain...worst case new battery

  11. So in summary, those who have it love it and would not be without it, those without it don’t think its worth it as they can;t see what it adds to a sports car and can fail.........glad thats sorted 👍.............ps get PSE next time, honestly you will love it when you’ve had it  😆

  12. I had a business meeting today (remember those 😆) in Lancashire today so took the boxster for its first blast of the year to clear out the cobwebs..........two things really get brought home when driving it again ........the NA power delivery and the steering feedback........I’ve said it a few times now but the steering is the one thing that has shocked me compared to more modern cars........its so nice to actually be able to feel what the car is doing through the wheel

  13. New one on Autotrader, low mileage one owner and looks a good spec but unfortunately no detail pictures of the centre dash to confirm PASM / PSE and no mention in description.....

No 095 with 28,682 miles and £28.995 Private Seller.........retail price without warranty is probably pushing ?

    PDK

    Full leather

    Sport Chrono

    Parking sensors

    BOSE

    Sport Seats

    PASM ??

    PSE ??

  14. Walked past the car yesturday and noticed the back tyre was flat 🙄...........could not see anything in it so tried pumping it up to at least be able to drive it for a repair but the air was hissing out....guess I was lucky to get home the night before .......so wheel off and a large screw right on the shoulder, the angle it had entered had already made the hole larger with shoulder flex..........I feared the worst and yep it was none repairable due to it being right on the should ie any repair would just split .........worst thing was there was still c5mm of tread on the tyre........so new tyre ordered.......I could not be bothered with the hassle of shopping around so just got the best price I could from the local place I had gone for the repair....£230 fitted........had to leave the car on axle stands overnight and refitted this morning.

I’m hoping to use the car most of next week so just glad I noticed it before I drove off in it 😬

  15. They are fitted to all 9x1 cars with Sport chrono which the GTS has as standard ie any 981 with Sport chrono has them including GT4’s

No dynamic engine mounts on the 981 they are fitted to the transmission but fact is they do seem vulnerable on the GTS cars.

Same thing as they work on both the transmission and engine so are referred to as either......they come as part of the Sport chrono package so can affect any 981 with that option its just that the GTS and GT4 have them as standard .....I know of one which has just gone on a very low mileage GT4.......definately not mileage related when they fail

  16. Thats a nice spec GTS, its has the GTS interior pack and the carbon sills where an expensive extra, even has the dual climate lol

The main weak point of the 981GTS is the dynamic engine mounts, they are prone to go on even a low mile car and are c£1000 each to replace and you are recommended to do both at the same time......it’s the main reason people get a warranty on these 😉
