    Nice work @Gramps

What size spacers did you get? Are the photos before or after fitting the spacers?

I’m going back and forth on whether to get some, as I’m not sure I’ve got the clearance (even though it seems to have been fine for many other 987.2 owners)

Mine has 19 inch wheels and PASM which I think drops the ride height by 10mm. Not sure if that makes a difference?

Put spacers on mine 15mm at rear and 7mm at the front. Then lowered the standard suspension with H&R springs -30mm.

No problems and really makes a difference in the appearance of the car.

I have 19" lobster claws fitted.

  2. Replaced my top mounts with Sachs purchased from Autodoc, if you are happy to wait they took about a week to get @£39 the pair. Also replaced dust covers and bump stops while i was in there. Bearings, same as above, stripped down, cleaned and re-greased. Everything else was Spyder Performance parts.

I pretty much unbolted everything and then replaced it. Only thing i made sure of was the eccentric bolts were torqued up when the suspension was under load.

Nothing unusual about doing the job on the 987. I followed the torque settings from the manual and then had it re-aligned.

No rattles, clunks or creaks now. Drives like a different car. Well worth the effort and expense.

  3. Taxed it. Got it aligned and then used it for the first time in about a year 😊

Guys at ALine (Dudley) did a fantastic job of the 4 wheel alignment, explaining everything they did and it now drives like a totally different car.

    Really happy to have her back on the road after a few big DIY jobs completed over the past few months;

    Front and rear suspension refresh.

Lowered 30mm with H&R springs with new tops and bump mounts

    Gearbox oil change

DesignTek valved exhaust (not switching yet, so in 'loud' mode all the time, but WOW what a great sound!

    New clutch and DMF

    New slave cylinder

    Quick wash

  4. Yes, it can be done without removing the tray.

Just finished a refresh on mine and last part to fit was the sway bar, forgot all about it until i noticed it leaning up against the garage wall!

Everything else had been put back together and torqued up, so didn't want to take it all apart again.

  5. Just finished refresh on the rear of mine and used mostly Spyder as I used them for all the front and quality is good. Nice finish to all the parts with engraved spyder performance lettering, which gives confidence as you wouldn’t advertise if your parts were sub standard?

Also used Meyle, Moog and Lemforder (sounds like a 70’s duo!)

  6. I feel your pain. Just had to do this last week and mine looked the same.

They were spot welded on the stud and nut. Lots of heat and persistence persuaded them to eventually give up. Hammer and punch also needed to get the stud out of a couple of them.

The plan was to fit a valves exhaust but not yet done it due to other work needing doing.

Good luck. It will be worth it in the end 👍🏻

I'm planning on doing this too, however I think I'll try using Plasti Dip, easy to remove if I decide I don't like it.

On the hunt for the boot 'Boxster S' badge in black too, but what I've found so far are ridiculously expensive..

Did mine in Plasti-Kote over a year ago and still look as good as the day i did them. Couldn't you do the same for the Boxster S badge?

If they have corroded into the cross over pipes ,(the hose ferrules)  you will need to factor them in, whilst you are at it.

Thanks. I'm going to take a closer look at the weekend to assess the amount of corrosion etc.

The leak is only small, not any on the floor of the garage just a pink droplet on the bottom of the hose.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed its not going to need all of them doing, the wallet is taking a bashing at the minute with all the other work I'm doing 🙄

  9. New clutch, flywheel, RMS and at last gearbox is now back in the car.

All rear suspension replaced and torqued up, apart from ones that need doing under load. Also new ARB bushes.

Started to fit H&R 30mm lowering springs to front, new bump stops and covers. Only managed one side as the other has a rusted nut on the top of the strut that is being soaked in penetrating oil for a few days to hopefully loosen up.

Whilst working under the wheel arch noticed the front coolant pipes are starting to leak 😟, so it looks like i will be doing those as well before its back on the road!

I know lots have already done this and wondered if anybody has a list of parts numbers and where to purchase from before i start googling ?

    Thanks!

Installed my DesignTek valved exhaust with the help of a friend who works in a garage, so we could use the lift. It went really smoothly, no hiccups, using a set of instructions for the Soul exhaust, which looks identical.

We only got the pipes on and I’ll do the vacuum lines and wiring on another day. By default the valves are open and it is very LOUD. Quiet(ish) when pootling, but as soon as you accelerate it turns hooligan and crackles on the overrun. I’ll have to get on with the rest of the install asap to have the option to dial down the volume.

The old system had a hole in the upper right corner of the right-hand box, the size of a 50p piece.

    I bet it sounds great!

Got one to put on after i have finished the clutch change.

Could you share the instructions you used?

A bit more progress today. Although the clutch still hasn't been removed yet due to needing a low profile triple square bit to remove one of the bolts from the bulk head. So carried on with some other stuff.

Driveshafts out and supported. New coffin arms, tuning forks and rear suspension support arms replaced.

    3kqJOYC.jpg

Rear H&R springs, bump tops and covers fitted (30mm drop).

Hoping to continue with a bit more tomorrow.

Finally got the gearbox out, its fought us all the way but eventually given in!

Clutch looks like the original one on 102K miles and definitely needed replacing.

Managed to bugger up the new RMS seal when putting it in, couldn't get it square and had to butcher it to get it back out. Should have new one with new slave cylinder (might as well change it while i can get to it!) on Weds this week.

Until then, its back to normal work for the rest of the week.

2nd day into clutch, flywheel, exhaust, rear control arms, tuning forks etc and spring replacement.

1st day, rear bumper off, control arms out, tuning forks out, drop links and sway bar out (all being replaced).  Got to the point where we were fighting with the exhaust flange bolts, got 1 side done and then stopped for the night.

Today, got the exhaust off (hurrah!!), gear shift cables disconnected, slave cylinder unbolted and loose but cant get it out past the bracket holding another gear linkage that goes over the top of the transmission. Any body have any words of wisdom?

Hoping tomorrow will be a better day and actually get the gearbox out.

I'm optimistic it should all fly back together as most of it will be new!

Time for a well earned beer and bath........

  14. Never had the issue with mine and i know of other members who have done the same mod.

    Purchased the 7mm & 15mm from tech_world_direct on eBay,  https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/7MM-ALLOY-WHEEL-SPACER-KIT-BOLTS-FOR-PORSCHE-BOXSTER-986-987-981-2A10P37/322569916346?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

Make sure both areas that mate with the spacers are clean and flat. Its amazing how a small piece of dirt/rust gets amplified when rotating at speed.
